What will make MC so special that s/he'll become the leader of Inquisition?

He's a hunter for hire with no plans to retire, and all the sucka MC's can call him "Sire."

Maria... why?

This is reaching Vanilla Ice's Go Ninja levels of cornball.

I don't mind the "chosen one" trope, it just really depends how its done if they've gone that route,

I prefer to "A hero of coincidence/circumstance" like how Origins was, since it was only the warden and alistair, they didn't really have much choice but to save fereldan. (Would have been funny if there was a non-standard game over where the Warden could just go "screw this i'm outta here" xD)

Always do wonder how it would have been if Duncan, and more of the other Grey Warden's survived

There was it was the DLC The Darkspawn Chronicles no MC warden and that's what happens.

He survived Helgen the veil tear so he has more experience with dragons demons than anyone...well aside from Ralof Cassandra who he escaped with, Ulfric Stormcloak the head of the mages or General Tullius the head of the Templars. Image IPB

Because the Veil Tear at the conference was actually a Prothean Beacon.

Well they do have a strange green glow around them and it was your apprentice that caused the explosion during your fight with Cassandra. Thus causing you to have amnesia and instead of killing you Cassandra took you back to the divine who gave you new memories and made you the inquisitor and told you to hut down the cause and stop it. Oh Christ. I realize Bioware frakking recycles their stuff all the time but this.....

Tell me more.

EDIT: Actually, the "Prothean Beacon" was an Elven Eluvian that transfers knowledge to the Inquisitor and the Inquisitor meets The Maker AKA a Reaper and then the Elves turn out to be Protheans and Arlathan / Black City is the Citadel where the Maker is the Star Brat and......what the hell am I talking about.

I'm really digging the idea posted before about why the MC becomes the Inquisitor:
-The MC actually died during the veil tear crysis that kickstarts the game.
-A benign spirit (spirit of Hope sounds cool) possessed the MC, resurrecting him/her.
-That posession allows the MC to close the Veil Tears.

If the MC isn't conscious about the possession, that would make the kind of plot twists Bioware loves so much. It would also fit in nicely with many DA themes.

Also, maybe the main villain is a dark version of the MC, with the opposite power and whose goal is the fusion between the two worlds. I'm getting Legend of Korra: Season 2 vibes here...

"Main character," according to a post further upthread. Maybe I'm innocent to the ways of the world, but that's the first time I've ever seen "MC" used instead of "PC."

Main Character it's pretty much the same as PC or Player Character, unless you're being sarcastic and you already know.

You stole my theory! :D Sort of.

I totally expect some "KoTOR" plot elements to make it into DAI. I had that impression since Darrah said that Inquisitor might feel responsible for the Veil Tear because of something they might have done or not  or something like that in the GI interviews last August.  I do not expect memory loss though, but I do expect Cassandra to have tried to kill you (seems to be a trend with her really).

I wanna see them somehow explain why they'd make a qunari their inquisitor.

 I really hope they don't go that route, but I'm not holding my breath. ( Speaking of Helgen - sure Jarl, I guess I've got more experience.....running away. <_< )

I have absolutely no idea how they will explain it. Maybe somehow you will be the only one who can close the veil tears idk why that makes you the leader though, or maybe Flemeth will bully Cassandra into it.

I still think it was Cassandra's idea (or whoever she was working for) to reform the Inquisition and she wanted the Warden or Hawke to lead it because they would be influential.

So I dunno, I hope it's a good explanation though.

Well that makes a little since so after the end of ME3 when the citadel unleashed the catalyst and then exploded it sent Shepard to a new dimension were he wakes up on thedas  unaware of his new surroundings is yet as to fight another battle to save the world and close the veil tears which just happen to be caused be the catalyst. And this ties into ME4 after stepping through the eluvian the warden was transported to the ME universe and waking up on the citadel he must fight and survive this strange new world. We're always designed to play a chosen one. It just depends how chosen. Even in a game like DA:O where you're ostensibly not "chosen" by an interventionist god, you're still "chosen:" in the sense that you have special abilities that are rare (if not impossible) to replicate.

That said, you have been very good at fighting this design with you how expereicne the game so you do not see it.
