(note that this idea would work thematically under the right circumstances with any ending)
Here is what, to me, would make a solid plot for a sequel...
There are new races, completely (or mostly. I'll get to this in a bit) 'alien' races from the 1-3 games, a Citidel, homeworlds, etc which are eerily similar to the first games. Despite this, various subplots occur (possibly via a single game or possibly spanning multiple others) until leading to a suprise revelation: this isn't the current cycle at all, it's a cycle in the future!
Note that races such as yahg and even pyjacks (as the Salarians seemed to be quite primitive at one point as well, according to Javik) could be present, although this may very well spoil the future cycle plot twist.
Cue mystified character searching for answers as to what happened in the past cycles until it is revelealed that there were Reapers who Reaped, haters who hated etc and were killed off in the previous cycle. The current cycle would then be at the mercy of just what the Reapers sought to prevent: the inevitable organics vs synthetics conflict.
Subsequently in the future, cue synthetic race X wreaking havoc upon organics and the need to stop them at any cost, with endings spanning from classic destroy, to creating another version of Reapers, or whatever else paid writers can think up of (shudders?).
Anyway, I think it would have fused much better with Drew's original plot for ME3 assuming the same endings for that plot, but I believe this could work and be pretty enjoyable, however, there's the arguement that fighting a Geth-esque enemy for a whole additional set of games could get boring, which I could agree with to an extent.
So what do you guys and gals think, is it a good idea or am I even more off my rocker than I thought I was?
