Any news on this ?

I was able to play for several hours no-stop yesterday, now I have crashes within a few minutes (sometimes seconds).

I have great sympathy for those who are experiencing issues!

But just to show all is not lost, I've had zero graphical issues and I'm running Vista SP1 with a 4800 series ATI card using Catalyst 9.9.......

Anyone else notice that even after getting passed ostragar with an underclocked graphics card that whenever you crash its always when you are in a place with lots of trees? thats what i have noticed on mine.

Running ATI 3870 OC ed

Phenon 2 x 4

4GB DDR2 RAM

Windows 7 (tried it on 64 and 32 bit)

Im currently having discussions with EA customer Support and have been over the past few days if they do managed to give me a solution that works i will post here. Or has anyone found a fix as this discussion has gone quite recently.

But anyway would be intrested to know if others r crashing whenever there r trees and i found if you run across the ostargar bridge looking down you dont crash once u reach the other side but only once you have underclocked your card.

Has to be a problem specifically related to the 3000 series. I have not encountered any problem whatsoever with my 5850.

In fact - I am more than happy to have switched to ATI again :-P

I crashed in the Ostregar area with a Human Nobel. I tried everything from cpu affinity, lower resolution, lower gfx, underclock video and system speeds, etc... nothing worked.

I did read about disabling the DOA:CE extra content... so I did that. I changed to a Dwarf Nobel and I've been able to play crash free for a couple of hours now... even in Ostregar.

If it was the extra content crashing... I don't know. It if was the Human Nobel crashing.... I don't know. Have I been lucky for a few hours? Maybe.

My system:

Another 3870 user here having these crashes, (need to manually reset the computer).

So far its happened in the Dalish starting camp, (most times there), , Ostegar, (just twice for me), and now its happening time and time again in Soldiers Peak, (four times so far).

Well 15 hours into the PS3 version now with zero glitches and its run flawlessly. I see my thread still grows and they have yet to issue a fix. Way to go EA. Profit quarter of 1.15 billion, buy another company for 300 million then immediately lay off 1,500 people and 1/3 are Mythic on Warhammer. Merry freaking Christmas huh?

I swear this company has zero scruples...

I have an E8400 and Ati 4870. I changed from XP 32bit to Windows 7 64bit, didn't help. Then tried Catalyst 9.7, didn't help, but then I changed my E8400's core affinity for the DA process just to core 0 and played for a long while and it didn't crash. Hopefully it fixed it for good. Catalyst is still 9.7. Not sure if the older catalyst helps, but the core thing seemed to work. Hope this helps some of you.

I really hope Bioware and / or ATI are working on a fix as we speak. I wasted several hours of my free time yesterday. :(

the 4870 and the 4850 are both different in problems i think. I have a 4850 and dont crash in osta. However it does crash every now and then into the blue screen of death. And when i underclock it crashes to desktop and then shuts down as soon as i use another aplication. However what i did now (and it seems to work so far, 0 crashes /knocks on wood/ so far) i put gpu-clock 575 and memory 825. Put vent on automatic and set the affinity for the game on one of my two cores. (listed previous post by one of our fellow problemsolvers) Hope anyone else will find these (momentary solutions) to work (perhaps briefly :) )

setting the affinity for DAO to run on CPU 0 didn't fix anything for me : ( the game still crashed. I even put all other CPU hogs like explorer and CCC on my other three cores. didn't help. I haven't tried underclocking, so i guess i'll try that next. Looking at upgrading my video card to a 5870 *heavy sigh*

I think the problem lies in the fact that Bioware uses PhysX as a tool to create particle effects in DragonAge. Guess what AMD/ATI doesn't support. I have read enough about it to make me consider purchasing a Nvidia card to replace my two 3870's that I have never had problems with until now.

I can imagine that finding a bug and fixing it can take some time, but in this case I am really getting pi**ed off.

It's not some kind of minor glitch, but rather is the game not playable at all (for some) on a very common hardware configuration. Communication is lacking as well given the extent of the bug / problem.

Want to restate that setting the affinity of daorigins.exe to just 2 of 4 cores has completely solved all crashing with a 4870 and Phenom II 940. Not a single crash in a week now after crashing constantly upon release. No underclocking of vid card needed.

I downloaded Rivatuner and downclocked my ATI 3850s GPU to about 20% of capacity. I then turned the graphics down. The program now remains mostly stable, although it still sometimes crashes in cutscenes, but I think that crash is unrelated (it doesn't black-screen, and I get that crash with other applications). I was able to run all 4 CPU cores without incident.

i definately agree that It's not Just having an ATI card there is prolly something in common about most of the systems having problems that may be causing the issue.

I've been playing for 'bout 20-25 hrs now with no crashing problems,

DO- video settings at max

MOBO- gigabyte ma790fxt-ud5p- NB and HT at 2160mhz

CPU- amd PH II x4 955 @ 3840mhz

RAM- patriot 7-7-7-20-1600mhz

VIDEO- 2x 4890 cards in crossfire @ 950mhz core and 1150mhz mem, running 9.10 drivers

OS- win 7 X64

HDD- 2x 1TB in raid 1 (OS drive) 4x 750GB in raid 0 (game drive)

The game nuns smooth, I've only had it lock up one time and I think that was B/C of windows not DO. The game was intsalled then played I didn't have to make it admin or change anything on my end.

Neither am I saying it is all ATI-users experiencing these problems nor that the graphics card is the only reason.

What I was trying to say is it is not only some interfering bug, but rather a complete game breaker. Thereforethey should get this out of the way asap.
