Neither am I saying it is all ATI-users experiencing these problems nor that the graphics card is the only reason.

What I was trying to say is it is not only some interfering bug, but rather a complete game breaker. Thereforethey should get this out of the way asap.

Maybe if everyone posted their computer specs beyond the graphics card it will reveal something in common that was overlooked?

I have the following and it has not had any problems (so far).

Game: Max settings (1600x1200), not patched, no mods installed

CPU: Core i7 965 (not overclocked)

RAM: Corsair 6GB (3x2GB) 8-8-8-24 @ 1600MHz

OS: Win7 64bit

Motherboard:EVGA 132-BL-E758-A1 X58

Graphics: Radeon 4870X2, Catalyst 9.10 Drivers, Max Settings, 'Use Application Settings' unchecked

Hard Drive: 600GB (2X 300GB Velociraptors in Raid 0)

I'm running a HD 4850 card with absolutely no problems, runs fast and smooth.

Here are some factors to consider besides always thinking it's your graphics card.

1. What or how many programs do you have running in the background?

2. What processor does your PC have?

3. How much RAM do you have installed?

4. Along with what programs are running in the background make sure you disbale any anti-virus and 3rd party firewall software before playing.

5. A #1 reason for very poor performance believe it or not is if your PC is contaminated with loads of crap files, spyware, adware, greyware or viruses? If you use any programs like Limewire, Frostwire etc. etc. you are 100%  infected. All that will cause your PC to just barely chug along and will cause a game demanding high performance out of a grahics card let alone a PC to either crash or run at snail pace.

A lot of people having problems were able to play without crashes to some degree. I for example played several hours on friday and did not touch my computer the rest of the weekend then. Since monday, though, I am not able to play for more than 2 minutes (sic !).

This is bizarre - Dragon Age is the first game I've been able to play on my dual 4650s without crashing, glitches or bugs. Every other game (Borderlands, Aeon, Left 4 Dead, Half-Life 2, etc) has all manner of problems.

ATI are definitely the culprit. I don't get why they need to load FOUR programs into memory on system startup, or what those programs even do beyond shell/task bar integration.

Been running on 2 crossfired sapphire 4830's. Had 1 crash on 9.9 so I installed 9.10 and haven't had a single issue since. I'm running it on 1920 x 1080 with everything on MAX and don't have any hiccups.

Lvl 12 and runnin fine.

Frigging no replies from EA and my supposed technical support Teir 2 telephone call I was to receive in 72 hours has turned into five days. Thanks for nothing and ATI is not answering their thread either. As a long time ATI customer I am about done with them. My next card is definitely an Nvidia and although I have had no issues on my PS3 version, I have no toolset and editing for mod capability.

Its working with most everyone. Have you tried different driver sources? Perhaps you should take it up with your gfx card manufactuer (VisionTek/ASUS/MSI/Sapphire/etc). You might even be able to get an RMA (and possibly a newer card).

I have done everything yes and then some too much to rehash. Not to mention I am far from the only one with issues and my card is an ATI parent company Diamond so its basically OEM and that comes from ATI support. Furthermore ther eis nothing wrong with the card I can play any other game out at max settings with zero issues and I am talking about heavy graphic chugging games. This game is outdated graphically in comparison with many other games. hell, Oblivion and Fallout 3 are older than this and look superior and run smooth as silk on this machine.  The issue is not my machine.

I've been following this thread for the past few days now and believe me there is some sort of problem going on. With most everyone certainly isn't everyone and we are currently stuck with a $50-70 game that meets the requirements listed on the box that is unplayable. I do hope it gets sorted out soon I got a small fix of it and the only cure for it is more. I need MORE!!

I've been having alot of problems with this game, at the time of installation I had ati drivers 9.2 and the game crashed alot, every 15 min or so.
I saw the posts on this forum and updated my drivers to 9.10, then 9.7, and it was still crashing, so I patched the game and with 9.7 drivers I can play longer but the game still crash.
2 hours or so is the usual time before the game crash and all programs stop working, no media files can be opened nor firefox, only fix is to reboot the PC.

The game itself is really good, I bought the collectors edition cause I really love the games bioware have done.

Hoping for a patch to fix these problems.

I have no problems with my 4850.

On the other hand, I did see what looks like horrible textures during talk scenes (while running everything at highest settings).

I have been watching this thread closely since the beginning and I have purposely stayed away from Orzammar due to it.

Asus M3A78-EM main board
AMD Athlon 64 2x core 6000+ @3.11ghz
Sapphire HD3870 / 9.1 catalyst drivers
2 GB ram
WinXP pro SP3

edit: default game rez was 1440x900 and I left it there. graphics auto at apx 2/3's and textures Hi

I have had NO serious issues in over 40 hours of gameplay. I do however feel the need to reboot after 8 hrs of continuous play to maintain performance. But as I said I have not gone near Orzammar at this point. I have avoided it due to the possible graphics issue involving that part of the game.

And I have not DL'd this borked up 1.01 patch or whatever they call it. Too many threads about it removing the play function. Cracks around it or no, I am sticking to the old mantra, "If it ain't broke don't fix it" We shall see how that lasts as I expect the need to visit Orzammar later today or tomorrow.

ATI Sapphire HD 3850 here, running at 1280x1024 with x2 antialiasing.

Game first crashes right as you reach Ostagar, hard crash, too. This is the first game since I bought this video card nearly two years ago that completely thrashes my system.

Using Rivatuner to underclock my card and crank my fan let's me play for hours and hours without a hitch. I've been following this thread for a few days now, and it seems fairly clear that something in Dragon Age doesn't know how to treat the HD 3800 series of cards like a lady.

Well I decided to do some upgrading after selling a vintage 1973 Fender Twin Reverb so I bought me a GTX 275 and a 25.5' 2ms Asus widescreen monitor. Let's see how the game does come Monday when I get my new toys.

I've been having tons of issues and crashes with my 3870 card. I get a black screen and a window saying that the resolution isn't supported by the screen at some points of the game like in the Dalish Elf camp or by the prisoner in Ostagar.

I've tried with both the downgraded drivers and the new ones, still the same problem. Any idea on what the problem might be?

I was having problems with my 4890 crashing to desktop during area transitions and level loads. I switched my drivers to 9.7 and haven't had the problem since. Hopefully the next driver set from ATI will have the issue sorted out.

After starting a new character because I'd "lost" Soldiers Peak with my main, I went to Soldiers Peak and am now having the "reset" crash constantly. I mean every single time I go there, sometimes I get a minute or two, other times it crashes before any combat starts. I thought I had it bad in the Dalish camp, but this is ridiculous and I'm now starting to lose patience. I expect a few bugs when games start, but this is too much. Its unplayable in certain areas and whats more, the DLC I have paid for - I can't access. At all. If its not one thing its another. But its definitely worst at Soldiers Peak, without a doubt.

There are other issues in game/website/customer service which I'm not going to go into here, but its all combining to make this one of the worst gaming experiences I've known so far. (This includes waiting 20 minutes for a game to load from a cassette on a Spectrum 48k that then chews itself up).

I don't rant on forums, it doesn't do nothing and you don't feel better after. But, believe me, this is making me want to.

It wouldn't be so bad if the game was crap.

I'm on 8800 GTX SLI mobile, with a 64-bit CPU, but running Vista 32 bit.

There were a few 64 bit cpu with ATI video cards out there. just wondering...

I have random slow-downs even to a serious crawl (1 frame every 30s) during random dialogs, including werewolf lair, and i'm just heading into Ostagar now expecting more damage.

Don

have a great day
