It would be REALLY swell if they would at LEAST ACKNOWLEDGE that they are looking at this problem! :( I can find no mention of it whatsoever ANYWHERE in any of the official support resources! :-\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

Interestingly, they DID release a patch today... But no mention of our issue! :(

Yep, its obvious EA and AMD/ATI don't give a **** because nothing is being said or done. That's alright, tommorow my GTX 275 arrives and then we will see if it is the card specific or a duo core issue or both.

Keep us updated. I might be purchasing that card myself.

Started another dwarf noble but have not been able to get to to Ostragar yet. I will update as soon as I hit it tomorrow. However, between the new card and the new monitor at 1900X1200, it looks like a completely different game all together. The GTX 275 smokes the 3870 to dust and I have yet to peak 70 degrees at max settings. Furthermore, i found it interesting that my Trend Micro virus program loaded so slow then I deleted all ATI files and it loads in half the time while also loading precision and the nvidia settings. Amazing!

Please keep up up to date if you get through Ostogar without any problems.... This is bad news for ATI, you would think they would at least let us know they are looking into it?

I WAS thinking about getting one of thier new 5000 series cards to replace my aging 3870, (which still performs admirably, except for this), but now I am seriously thinking different about ATI. Now that they are kings of the video card work they think they can crap on their customers? Not on me they won't.

Same fix worked for me...

1. Download Riva Tuner (do google search..its free)
2. Click on Customize, Low Level System Settings
3. Lower Core clock 50 points       example: 800 down to 750
4. Lower Memory Clock 50-70 points.    example: 1170 down to 1095

Has worked flawlessly for me. Though i'm not sure if its totally safe. Can't imagine it doing any harm to underclock.

You may have to experiment with the settings. Should be around 10 to 15 percent underclock.

Edit: And yes, it works for both Nvidia and ATI

It should be safe. The worst you can get in my opinion is an unstable system. But if you do, you can always deactivate the underclocking feature.
The low level settings button is a little hard to find. On the main rivatuner tab, there is a button with a small triangle (just besides the graphic chip details). Pressing this button will open a small menu with four different buttons. The first with a picture of a graphic card is the low level button. Everything else should be quite self-explanatory...

You can use CCC btw, to down clock your card... I don't see why you'd need to use riva turner, that is usually used for nvidia cards anyway.

Not to diminish anyones troubles at all. But I run an ATI 3870 /Win xp sp3 / 2 gb ram / athlon 64 2x procressor.

I have my catalist settings to allow the program to choose config. I run the old Catylist 9.2

No trouble here and I have played most of the game so far.

Actually you can't underclock your video cards lower than 800/1170. I can confirm that underclocking the 3870 does work from the freezing. I played well past where I was getting the freezing yesterday. Today I started it up and boom it froze on me again but it tuned out that once I restarted it went back to default setting so that explained that.

I'm about to underclock my video card again and if you don't see another post saying otherwise it will work just fine again.

With Riva Tuner I have my settings on 751/1057 taking someone's other post for advise.

Here is a walk through on how to underclock your card.

Well Folks I played through Ostagar and I am in the Kokari Wilds now running at max resolution of 19200X1200 and my GTX 275 doesn't go over 70 degrees. It's honestly like a new game and runs flawlessly so far. The game looks absolutely amazing with this card and resolution as well. Pretty damn sad that ATI logo is stamped on the box and ATI cards are having all these issues.

ATI and EA have been zero help and I am glad to say that I am finally fully converted to EVGA and Nvidia without a doubt. Funny thing as well, my Trend Micro virus loads 60 times faster now as well since I killed all the ATI files and that's with Nvidia settings and Precision running at start up!

I will continue to keep you all updated as to whether or not I run into any issues. This is sad that the only fix was spending 260 bucks for a new card but it was well worth it and the new technology is unbelievable. I never see this much of a difference with upgrading every two years and I know the new ATI cards are supposed to be the rage this year but this new card has been a painless process from install to loading etc.

I used to like Nvidia cards, but i like AMD CPU's better.  Nvidia and AMD have never gotten along too well in the same system.

The last Nvidia card i got would not even post through the bios, so i was forced to go back to ATI again.

Using a Sapphire ATI 4670 1GB card, no problem so far. Game runs absolutely gorgeously. Only gripe is that my dual core cpu is loaded at ard 95%, cpu and mb temp at ard 40degC. Wonder if its a problem?

The only issue I'm having with my 4850 is the texture detail. I have everything maxxed out, but the graphics detail, specifically textures are nowhere near what I see in other people's screenshots. I guess I should consider myself fortunate that I haven't seen a single crash, glitch or problem...other than discovering the game doesn't look near as good as it should!

I've had sliders both ways from what I can remember, ever since ATI introduced overdrive into CCC. Maybe it is card dependent.

I have the fix for all of you... Buy NVIDIA!!

So unbelievable that people still buy ATI crap. All people look at is some dumb benchmarks comparing ati to nvidia blah blah blah... The fact is, ATI is the worst possible video card out there. Their catalyst driver system is horrible.
Don't take my word for it. Take a moment and browse the forums of games released in 2009. Hit up the tech support section of those forums. You will see for yourself that ATI accounts for nearly 70 percent of all problems with new games. Why? Because of the their poor coding of the catalyst drivers.
Sure in a benchmark where ATI writes a specific catalyst to perform a specific function, it will show that ATI outperforms an equivalent Nvidia card. Rubbish. Nvidia runs all games all the time without the headaches.
Nvidia's benchmarks are just fine. In fact they beat ATI in a lot of the tests.

So to fix all of your problems in this thread, pull the piece of crap ATI card and put in the Nvidia. Sit back and enjoy the game, for the first time since you bought that ATI card.

Am I an Nvidia fan boy? Maybe. But I do know I hate ATI. And all I have to do is read the forums on all of these new games which reinforces my opinion. Others should take note and do the same.

Go visit COD MW2,  Far Cry 2, Wolfenstein, CitiesXL, NFS Shift, SIMS 3, Assasin's Creed 2, Fallout 3, and Aion tech support forums. Read it for yourself. Don't listen to me. Do the research. Learn and never buy an ATI card again. Unless of course you don't like gaming... then ATI is a great card. Looks real pretty displaying your desktop wallpaper and that is just about all it is good for.

Well this will be my last post in this thread. Since buying the GTX275 I have had zero issues, the game has not lagged and runs flawlessly still with over 6 hours of play. I am absolutely amazed that the game went from absolute non working **** to stellar simply by getting rid of my so-called awesome ATI piece of **** card.

I am playing at max graphic settings in stellar 19200X1200 resolution and this game is phenomenal. Hands down one of the best rpg's made. I am still pissed off that EA and ATI have done nothing to fix this issue or perhaps they just don't know how?!? Good luck to the rest of you and if you can afford to upgrade the GTX275 is one mean video card. As a long time ATI supporter I bid them farewell for good.

There is no doubt in my mind that no matter what work around you try, the problem is the video card. Once I installed the GTX275 the game was running like it was new. As I have stated I have not had one single issue or bug. SHAME ON YOU BIOWARE/EA AND ATI FOR STAMPING YOUR LOGO ENDORSEMENT ON THE ****ING BOX AND LEAVING YOUR CUSTOMERS OUT TO HANG!

I'm at level 14 and have experienced no crash with the Catalyst 9.10 or 9.11, I usually play for over 4 hours straight and my system is overclocked. Be sure to use DriverCleaner from Driver Heaven, well worth the $9.99.

Just because you got one Nvidia card that works does not mean they all do. I have seen plenty of crash complaints from the other guys as well.

well, i used the catalyst control center and underclocked the core, and reduced the memory to the base 1200.

i was actually able to get through character creation and got about an hour into the game before it black screened, so that is sig progress!

now lets hope they ATI/bioware find the issue.

:)
