Hmm, game works just fine maxed out on my 4850. In fact ive never seen any game act like what is stated in this thread, except when my card was busted. (and had a problem with my RAM)

I can confirm the same for maxed out settings.

Meh.... my 3870 wasn't giving problems but maybe once per 2 hours to start with, but on my new character it goes in fits sometimes in Orzimar(sp?) and the Deep Roads. It will crash the driver several times in a row.

I see ATI released the new driver a couple of days ago..... and not a word in the release notes about this.

Hey Bioware, if ATI won't patch it, at least if you claim to know what the problem is, write in a workaround and RELEASE A SODDING PATCH!

it seems i still had an occ crash with lowering the clock speeds on my ati 5770 with the newest CCC drivers.

however, i then overrode the fan speed and set it to max of 100% (yeah it's loud) and was able to play without a black screen.

i played in ostegarte and played the in K wilds without any problems.

alright, hopefully these guys get a workaround so i can keep variable fan speed!

Well this will be my last post in this thread. Since buying the GTX275 I have had zero issues, the game has not lagged and runs flawlessly still with over 6 hours of play. I am absolutely amazed that the game went from absolute non working **** to stellar simply by getting rid of my so-called awesome ATI piece of **** card.

I am playing at max graphic settings in stellar 19200X1200 resolution and this game is phenomenal. Hands down one of the best rpg's made. I am still pissed off that EA and ATI have done nothing to fix this issue or perhaps they just don't know how?!? Good luck to the rest of you and if you can afford to upgrade the GTX275 is one mean video card. As a long time ATI supporter I bid them farewell for good.

There is no doubt in my mind that no matter what work around you try, the problem is the video card. Once I installed the GTX275 the game was running like it was new. As I have stated I have not had one single issue or bug. SHAME ON YOU BIOWARE/EA AND ATI FOR STAMPING YOUR LOGO ENDORSEMENT ON THE ****ING BOX AND LEAVING YOUR CUSTOMERS OUT TO HANG!

I have an Sapphire ATi 5770. I've had random crashes at any time and was only lucky to have it crashless for a 4 hour span until I made it to the "light the tower" segment in Ostragar and it crashed like CRAZY at the middle of the battles, and it has been crashing every 2- 5 mins or 60 seconds. I was miffed by all of this and just uninstalled the game and put it on a shelf because Empire Total War is a good time killer too. I just want to say PhysX is gay also, ever since it was shown/introduced on Ghost Recon AWF on PC . Thing is I didn't know I can turn that crap off as well on the DA:O config menu.

I noticed that either if my mobo was screwy or my ATi is just having trouble adapting to the Windows 7 or games, my computer does the reset-crashes, while I browse through the internet or on Empire Total War also, and then it goes to the choice menu of going into safe mode or normal (which I choose normal). I just installed the ATi 9.11 catalyst and at least for now the Empire Total War did not crash...yet, but it's been only a day since I installed that patch. I might have to suck it up now and install Dragon Age Origins now to see the true test. I'll have to try turning off PhysX next time around.

OneEyeRed, how much did you have to spend on that Nvidia 275 GTX? Btw I am from Edmonton and my friend works in the hotel on the same block as Bioware and he told me that story that BioWare had canned 1,500 ppl. Sometimes, you can't sign buyouts to the devil.

I'm stunned that people are so dense to think that software/drivers are easily updated. Debugging can be a long and painful process as well as the testing to make sure nothing else go broken. Perhaps they are working on something.

Or perhaps its a real hardware problem that should be addressed by the manufactuer or its a user error for not picking the correct drivers or overclocking.

This is bizarre - Dragon Age is the first game I've been able to play on my dual 4650s without crashing, glitches or bugs. Every other game (Borderlands, Aeon, Left 4 Dead, Half-Life 2, etc) has all manner of problems.

ATI are definitely the culprit. I don't get why they need to load FOUR programs into memory on system startup, or what those programs even do beyond shell/task bar integration.

User error. I have all the games you mentioned and tons more except for Aeon and I'm having no issues what so ever, so I'm calling it use error.

it needs good programming, to make easy.
it needs good language, to make understandable.
it takes some orthographics, to make trollable.
it takes good eyes, to make error seeable

sooo, my question is: how does your entry *exactly* help with the aforementioned problems?

Wow!  You've never encountered a single bug in any program you've tried?

Congratulations on having a configuration that is not affected by these issues.  Your skills at inserting a DVD, clicking install, and then clicking "Play" are vastly superior to those of the rest of the gaming world.

The problem could be audio driver related I don't have an X-fi card.
The problem could be video related (My Radeon HD 5870 is different from your 4850)
The problem could be anti-virus-related (What are you running?)
The problem(s) could be any random combination of factors up to and including various in-game plot choices.

Just because you don't think you're affected by a bug doesn't mean it isn't there.  The game plays 100% fine on my XP32 setup.  It also appears to play just fine on my Win7 32-bit setup (that I just created for test purposes).  However, it very reliably freezes at the exact same point in the exact same cutscene on a save game file that I've copied across to all three setups.

Both of my Win7 setups (64-bit and 32-bit) are clean installs on previously blank HDDs (which are identical Samsung 750GB drives).  All of the drivers are basically the same version, just the 32-bit or 64-bit version depending on the OS.  With all other things considered, then only determining factor for my problem is 64-bit Win7.

Something is going on that is outside my control.  I'm not denying that it could be an evil little bug to track down, but it is definitely there.

For now, though, I'll just continue to boot to my 32-bit drive when I want to play DA:O, and I'll boot to the 64-bit one when I want to play/do anything else.

Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bits, with the latest catalyst on my ATI hd5870.

All maxed with 8 AA in 1920x1200.

I overclocked my old Q6600 quad to 3.5 GHZ.

The game is pretty stable considering overclocking this much on air.

0 issue, 60 hours of play.

How far into the game are you?
What chipset does your system use?
What CPU?
How much RAM do you have?
What type of audio does your system have?

Posting "I'm not having any issues" in this thread is useless without sufficient details.  Even with details, failures are arguably more useful in helping to correlate to a problem.

Running a 3870 in 32-bit XP Sp3.
Been getting blank screen crashes every once in a while with no apparent rhyme or reason to it.
Until I traveled to the village of Haven where it constantly crashes after about 4-6seconds after loading (doesn't matter if i move stay still etc.).

There seems to be a problem with DA:O and the 3800 series of ATI cards.
Have tried supposed fixes:
-9.7, 9.9, 9.10, 9.11Drivers
-disabling adaptive AA in CCC
-various in game graphics settings
-disabling all background programs
-checked overheating possibility with Everest, the game barely gets the card 15 degrees hotter.

Never had any issues with this card, even in games much more demanding than this one.
EA and Bioware can blame ATI all they want, doesn't explain how they managed to make a game that crashes an otherwise very stable GPU.

I am interested in anyone who has a 3870 who hasn't had any crashes and is more than 5hours into the game. What is your setup and drivers?

Wouldn't have even bothered to try and fix this if the game wasn't so damn good.

Why do people keep coming here and posting "My system runs great, no problems, your card sucks, blah blah.

WE DON'T CARE!

If you don't have any problems then why are you here instead of playing the game?

We are here for help and solutions. Coming here and posting "My game runs fine" does us no good what so ever.

I haven't had any issues, and i have a 5750 ftr. However, that being said, Ostagar does load slower than everywhere else in this game. i just figured it was becase....wait, nm, i'm thinking of orzamar..the dwarf city...well, either way, i've beaten the game, and have started multple playthroughs with the other origins (all but the Dalish) and reached Orzamar. The dwarf commonor and the noble. so whichever place, i've had no issues minus slower loading.
I write this just in case informing others of what card i have may help them to figure out the issue, not to brag in some kind of 'Hah, i have a better card' or some such stupid petty thing.   Just my two cents.

You can use CCC btw, to down clock your card... I don't see why you'd need to use riva turner, that is usually used for nvidia cards anyway.

Actually you can't underclock your video cards lower than 800/1170. I can confirm that underclocking the 3870 does work from the freezing. I played well past where I was getting the freezing yesterday. Today I started it up and boom it froze on me again but it tuned out that once I restarted it went back to default setting so that explained that.

I'm about to underclock my video card again and if you don't see another post saying otherwise it will work just fine again.

With Riva Tuner I have my settings on 751/1057 taking someone's other post for advise.

Here is a walk through on how to underclock your card.

http://www.playtool.....html#rivatuner

This fix appears to be working for my 3870 as well. I was crashing at Ostagar every time, and although I have only been playing about an hour since this I have made to the quests in the Wilds.
