Just a Quick Update, I set everything to the lowest, turned off everything, and set it to the lowest windowed resolution, went past the area where it crashes, it ran smoothly."

I tried this as well as disabling all the online upload settings (which I had heard fixed someones issue) and still crashes in about 30 seconds.

I have done all this and then some. I am very frustrated at this point and not one single word here from bioware. Baiscally I paid for a CE delivery on release day and currently its an over priced boat anchor and not a very good one at that. I have the PS3 rental on its way and can't wait to see the issues I run into with that. Lots of console complaints on both sides.

I just wish they would acknowledge this. They put this forum section up earlier today and they (bioware) knows that EA tech support is a laughing stock. This has certainly killed the hype for me and if they don't fix it soon they can refund me my money. I understand that game issues happen but to have many people with the same issue with a 1/2 hour of game play is ridiculous.

I expect far better from bioware but then I do expect this type of crap from EA.

Well, to be honest, I really don't think this game was worth the trouble of me getting it, the store I pre-ordered at didn't order enough CE editions themselves, so they somehow managed to be out of stock, so they kept sending me from one of their stores to another (best buy) for three damn hours before I managed to find a copy, this stuff shouldn't happen, pre-order is a same thing as sale, as you're paying for a product, what's the point if they don't have it, you know?

Plus, EA's got a crap record and no respect for the consumers, not to mention that they've been practically boning their costumers as every game that cames out with an EA logo recently seems to have trouble with ATI cards, I wonder how much Nvidia helped grease that little cog into the mix, like the crap with SHIFT where most ATI cards get the exact same performance on ultra high and ultra low because only some 25% of the card's power is used, makes you wonder how that little gem whent past the quality control, when components listed on recommended requirements aren't even enough for minimum settings.

I'm not gonna even mince words, this crap is why I pirate, the only reason I got this game was for the cloth map, the very idea of puting money on a game with an EA logo on it makes me cringe until my gums bleed.

Thats nice, go on a DEVELOPER forum and tell them you pirate.  Sure go right to the source, the people that sacrifice and put their blood and sweat into a product for people to enjoy, and give em a big old middle finger and tell them you steal it.  It doesnt matter if you didnt steal THIS game, i doubt they would think anymore highly of you.

I don't understand this concept, i doubt you have the testicular fortitude to walk into a store and lift a game by hand, yet somehow its not stealing if you steal it online in the privacy of your own home.  I have an ATI card and more than a few EA games, all are running great including this one.

Middle finger is no less than they deserve for giving their costumers incomplete shovelware, don't tell me you're one of those "you wouldn't download a car" people, are you? cause I can tell you right now, I'd download a car, with a DVD and a purse inside it. and No, I wouldn't go Inside a store and Lift a DVD case, But than again, would you go outside and and Kill a person? because you sure as hell don't have trouble doing it in a game, the severity of it might not be the same, but the point remains, people do things inside the safety of their home what they dont do in the outside/real world, the producers want my money? money is encouragement, it is given for a job well done, I won't support and encouraged half-baked crap. I've got a modded PS2 and 360, and 70+ ORIGINAL games each, I've no qualms about paying for a game when it is trouble-free.

I'm serious about Playing games, so being given a faulty product is a serious problem for me, would you accept a Burger that someone touch after scratching their unwhiped/unwashed ass? because that is what you've been given with an incomplete game, and to me, both maters are just as severe. If you don't understand me, don't try to preach me morals or courage, I've no interest from hearing it from people thinking themselves representatives of innocent devs that couldn't notice a problem as big as a BRAND of card not working.

I get stuterring in game each second, the stutter lasts like 0.2 sec of each sec. very weird

Same problem... 3870 with crashes in Ostsagar. Would someone from Bioware just give us a, "We hear you and we're working on it."? It would make me feel much better about all of this.

I really urge everyone to open a support ticket at http://help.dragonage.com . That's where support will come from, not the forums.

Who're you asking?  If you're asking me... no, I haven't.  I started having the problems late last night and didn't really get a chance to play around much.  I'm at work now and won't get to apply and possible fixes until later tonight.

And that does absolutely nothing. I just got off the telephone again with over an hour of time to get told that I need to manually uninstall all the files and if that doesnt fix it to call back. I was also told that they dont read the forums and this guys job was to help me with my problem not everyone else's. Great tech support as usual EA and the problem will go unanswered as usual and not get a fix for a long time if at all.

As a long time bioware supporter and customer I am absolutely apalled at bioware's ability to ignore us completely. But then the fine print under the technical support heading is a sure sign that they could really give a crap.

I don't how much more time I am going to waste with this crap before I am officially done. I told this guy that there are plenty of people with these issues and if thats the case then I will have to wait for a patch from either EA or ATI. No idea about an ETA or anything. Thanks a bunch you useless excuse of a company. Now I will go fight with Amazon.com about refunding me for an opened product that isn't even worth the weight of a boat anchor.

Good luck on getting any type of legitimate answer or help people. This is what EA is all about and they swallowed up another good comapny and turned it into a piece of absolute **** as well.

Another hour on the phone with EA supoport to get told I am getting sent to tier 2 support and they will contact me in 72 hours. Not to mention "I cannot pull up your reference number that the last tech gave you can you please tell me the problem and go over everything again for the tenth time"!

Not even game specific support. All the tech's give support for all the games wehich makes them absolutely useless. Thanks again bioware for being such a great supporter of your loyal customers. Screw, you , screw EA, and screw this piece of **** game. I want a refund and one way or another someone is giving me one.

So readung a different thread of people with Nvida card having the same issue in Ostregar, where they see their CPU maxing out at 100%, causing the crash. Anyone seen this?

I'll be brief with the intro. 1) Many posting have the Crash in or around Ostegar. 2)ATI users are getting hit a bit harder however NVIDIA users lso have posted. 3)There are many topics already in the forums for this all goign different routes or repeating ATI drivers etc. 4)CPU usage maxing at 100% in the crash location.

So I'm going to (with minor editing) post the steps I've done so far with Bioware tech support to resolve the issue.

Gavin: Hi, my name is Gavin. How may I help you?

:

Hello :) Been having game crashes when reaching Ostegar.

I've followed forum recommendations and tried the ATI CCC drivers 9/6

through 9.10 and it still crashes at the same location.

Gavin: Can you please provide the Dxdiag information for your PC.

Gavin: To do this:

1) Go to Start -> Run.

2) In the box, type the following: dxdiag

3) Click 'OK'

4) Click the 'Save All Information' button on the first screen of the application.

5) Then on top of the 'Save As' box that pops up, select Desktop (if it's not set to save there already), then click Save.

Gavin: Finally copy all the text and paste it to the chat interface.

****sent system info to tech support****

Gavin: Please stay online while I check this information for you.

Gavin: In the meanwhile Please accomplish the following before launching the game:

1. Empty your Temp folder to prevent file conflicts. Click the below given link for steps on emptying your Temp folder:

http://support.ea.co...p?p_faqid=10705

2.

Please end all background tasks to prevent conflicts with other

programs. Click below given link for steps on ending background tasks:

http://support.ea.co...p?p_faqid=10700

:

Temp file cleared. I tried clearing it yesterday also. Only consistency

I've noticed with the crashes regardless of vid drivers etc is that

when I reach that point in Ostegar the CPU maxes out to 100% on both

cores and causes a full system crash. The sound is normal for about

10seconds and then goes into the "repeating noise" category requiring

hard reset.

Gavin: ok

:

Tried with my BF's Nividia card and drivers and same issue. >.<

Thining the game is trying to use all the CPU it can at that point and

system shutsdown to prevent overheating. CPU cores run around 82% per

G15 keyboard in the start areas.

Gavin:

Based on the Dxdiag information you provided, it would appear that the

hardware acceleration level of your PC is set to Full instead of Basic.

I would request that you please change it to Basic.

Gavin: Try lowering the Hardware Sound Acceleration setting on your computer to "basic". To do this, follow these steps:

· Click the Start button in the bottom left hand corner of your Desktop.

· Click on "Run".

· Erase any text already in the run prompt.

· Type in: dxdiag

· Click the OK button.

· Select the sound tab at the top of the tool.

· Set the Hardware Sound Acceleration Slider to "Basic".

· Click "Exit" in the bottom right hand corner.

Gavin: I hope it will fix your issue.

Gavin: Further, If you have anymore concerns feel free to contact us back.

At this time I haven't tested the final step I posted here and won't be on my main game PC till tonight however I hope this may aid people in some steps to try...and if it works please post so. If not please add to the list so we can all see the next step in the line.

Still waiting on the mail to get my CE. I am somewhat nervous at all the video problems I am reading about here. I recently upgraded my ATI X1950 XTX to an ATI HD 5770 to prepare for this game. Couldn't go with the cost of the 5850 or 70.

Anyway, my question is if anyone else has the HD 5770 and is it running DAO ok?

Okay next step in path:

Henry: May be some game file has been corrupted, cause your system meets the MSr of the game clearly.
Henry: Please create a new administrator account. This is to check if there are any corrupted files associated to your Windows account. You'd have to uninstall the game using the old administrator account then reinstall the game using the new one.

Please click on the link below for the instruction on how to create another Administrator account.

http://support.ea.co...p?p_faqid=21638

It'll be a bit for the uninstall/reinstall. Please pst if anyone has tried this and it's worked/not worked.

Sa Seba in the official forums also recommends: Setting the affinity of daorigins.exe to use only one processor core fixed the
problem for me so far (2 1/2 hours without crash).
Drawback is a about 30%
loss of frame rate.

Ran the game in a window and open task manager. Right
click on daorigins.exe and set affinity, remove all cores but one. Then you can
go back to fullscreen using the ingame options.

I really urge everyone to open a support ticket at http://help.dragonage.com . That's where support will come from, not the forums.

Why do you think it will do absolutely nothing? Clearly the forums aren't the place for a solution, and it doesn't sound like your phone calls are going very well... why don't you try the support system that was built for this game, that uses your account, and allows you to track your tickets?

That core fix sounds a bit reasonable, the usual troubleshooting/corrupted file is doubtful as we all have a similar GPU. One good thing is at least we're making progress, the sooner we rule out all the "usual suspects" the tech can open a work ticket with the technical team and they can actually solve the problem. At least that's how it worked when I did tech support.

You need to open up task manager, then go to processes tab and look for a process called "daorigins.exe" , right click that and select "set affinity"

We've all already tried driver downgrades with no luck, and I don't have the set affinity option in my task manager. I found a work around via cmd and I can confirm that running with one core still crashed me. I did notice the frame rate drop tho, so I know it worked.

I'm on a 5870 and I've been encountering these same issues on this thread with no luck from any of the suggested fixes. However, I haven't tried this possible fix using a single core, which I'll have to try when I get home. Any time I crash it's been right after I suddenly begin to lag as though my processor, or perhaps my gfx card, were having trouble running the game at that moment regardless that my PC's specs are well beyond the recommended specs for the game.
This whole ordeal has been frustrating to say the least.

Recommended computer specifications do not automatically mean a game will run fine. There are millions of different combinations in pc's that developers simply cant take in account. Basicly, saying anything that you install, be they as little and useless as they are, can effect your computers performance.
