Here's something that I don't understand. I run a VisionTek HD OC 3870 which is doing this whole crashing thing anywhere from 5 seconds from the time I load in to a couple of minutes but never any longer than that. I've tried all of the user fixes on here to no avail. I asked my friend who is using the same card (same manufacturer/type/everything) and hes having not a problem in the world. He's running the same OS, the same driver version, everything's the same. Then I got the random idea to swap out cards with my dads computer who is also using a 3870 only his is made by Sapphire.
I've played quite a few hours with that card with NO PROBLEMS. I used the same drivers same installs everything just with a different manufacturer of essentially the same card. WTF!!!! I don't get it. My card is fine and runs everything from Crysis to CoD to WoW perfectly fine. I'm sure this is going to only add more questions instead of answers but I figured I'd throw my experience so far out there and see if anyone had any ideas.
There is an simple explenation for that really.
The visiontek HD OC 3870 comes with overclocked as a stock. Depending on the brand, some of them slighty overlclock the cards to boost performance. Sapphire, delivers there own stock which is, in most cases not Oced.
A lot of problems in games arise from videocards that are slightly oced. That is why experienced users, sometimes recommend to lower the values of your videocard. Switching for a different card is basicly the same thing.

Quad core won't help. :-(PappaCube wrote...
She has a Core 2 Dual and I just ordered her a Core 2 Quad (like I have) we'll see if that helps.

Just to a curious note, have any of you tried to install the latest Physx drivers?
I have searched Nvidia for the Physix driver but everything reverts back to a driver package for Nvidia cards. If anyone has a link specifically for the Physix engine update I woudl greatly appreciate it. Still cannot play the game and the plethora of things I have done are to no avail. I am trying my best not to get as upset as I did yesterday. I hope they get this fixed soon as I would really like to play the game.

I installed PhysX Monday, its on the latest version. so it will make no difference, ood thing was, I took the advice of another user here who asked if it might have been the constant network updating that had the problem, so I turned off all the profile/screenshot options, the game still crashed to black screen of death, but this time it was after 6 hours of playing instead of after 6 seconds, Though I'm not sure if this is a coincidence or if it actually made a difference.
The new crash for me happened during one of the enemy waves at redcliff.

So do you think that lowering the clocks on the video card back to ATI's stock will fix this all? I've plaid every other game I own, from TF2 to Empire Total War to Mass Effect with the card at its stock settings (slightly OC'ed). If you think slowing the clocks down will fix it, I might as well give it a shot...

Also, anyone tried windowed gameplay? I've been doing it for a bit now and the crash hasn't happened yet.
