My pronblem was fixed by switching afinity to core 1 from all, as core 0 is used by most of the other stuff I've runing on my PC I thought it'd be pointless to set afinity to core 0 nad have core 1 do nothing, anyway, just finished a six hour session without crashing, now only if I could solve the problem of exponentially longer loading times, a permanent solution that is, rather than just restarting the game.

Can you give me a few tips on how to do that myself? Its about the only thing about comps that I havnt taught myself how to do.

When you run the game, alt+tab to go to desktop, right-click on the taskbar and choose "Start Task Manager" Select the "Applications" tab, right-click Dragon Age In the List of Tasks and Choose "Go to Process" then Right-Click the process you were taken to and select "Choose Affinity" simply un-check Core0 So that only Core1 is checked, if you hace a processor with 3 or 4 cores, uncheck Cores 0 and 1, or 0,1, and 2, respectively, so that only one core remains, whichever one happens to have least processess on it.

Do keep in mind i've no idea what CPU you have, if its a single-core, this won't work.

Still waiting on the mail to get my CE. I am somewhat nervous at all the video problems I am reading about here. I recently upgraded my ATI X1950 XTX to an ATI HD 5770 to prepare for this game. Couldn't go with the cost of the 5850 or 70.

Anyway, my question is if anyone else has the HD 5770 and is it running DAO ok?

Hey Marcus7. Just wanted to tell you how much I love my ATI 5770. playing DAO at 1680 x 1050 with 16x anisotropic filtering enabled in catalyst control center, and 2x anti-aliaising, everything set to high or very high, and its beautiful.
Also, when I game I set the video cards fan to 50% instead of auto, and I have it overclocked from 850 to 896, and the memory at 1396 instead of 1200 mhz, and it never gets too hot, and only uses about ~90% of the cards resources. This card is fabulous. BioWare rules and the naysayers be damned!

Knocked 10% off the speed of my core and memory clocks as was suggested earlier in this thread and played 2 1/2 hours without a hiccup. It's the only thing that got me so much as an inch of success and... well, it actually got me a mile. If you're having crash issues, give it a try.

Yeah 3850 under Vista x64 having the same sort of issues, with the 9.10 cat drivers (had the same issues with I think it was the 9.6 drivers, upgrading didn't help any). I managed to get past Ostagar, but, now it always goes into an infinite loop of my display driver crashing and resetting when I arrive at Lothering...

I have an ATI card and my visuals are screwed, but I haven't heard of anyone else with this problem, so maybe I'm unique. Anyway, if anyone has any suggestions for me on how to fix this, then please let me know.

Well, this may be a fool's Dream, but seeing how its the first weekend since the release, its possible we might get a fix soon, not today, but soon, seeing as how majority of purchases, more than likely, are going to be today, that's a whole new pool of dissatisfied users ready to voice their frustrations, there are only so many of us that bioware can tune out, these problems are already showing up in the gaming media, and it doesn't take much for a game to go from a best-seller to crap people won't even grab from a bargain bin.

What the hell happened to you bioware? you used to be so good, I used to love buying all of your games, now i'm ashamed to even admit i recognize you, you've turned into just another company dishing out crap for a quick buck, the sad part is, the game would be very enjoyable, had the storyline not been broken up by constant crashes and unbearable memory leaks.

which place are you talking about exactly?

there seem to be 2 places that i can see with a similar name :

ostragar and orzammar.

if youre talking about the former (ostragar) where you become a grey warden (first place after the origin for human noble) then on my powercolor hd4890 1gb (9.9 cat drivers) it runs perfectly @ 1920x1200 x8AA.

one thing that i did notice in ostragar was that certain wood piles dotted around the encampment have glitched out textures but looking at them doesnt cause any artifacts and dont cause any performance hits.

I gave in yesterday and bought a gtx 260 to replace my 3870. Dude at Best Buy kept trying to get me to buy a 48series ati. After all of my ati troubles I will never buy one again. The gtx is doing great.

100% CPU usage / Black screen crash FIX!

I could not play past the wilds without crashing every few minutes. I have an ati 3870 which comes overclocked in the box. I underclocked it with a third party prgram. This fixed my crash problem and I'm several hours in with no crashes yet!

DISCLAMER! Overclocking is dangerous and if you break something it's not my responsibility!

Download RivaTuner. It's an overclocking program. This will allow you access your video cards speed and fan settings. Click a small button on the left side of the program,go to the video card icon, activate soft access, and turn the GPU and RAM speed down about 10-15%.

Start the game. If your issue was like mine you'll be playing along with all your cores active and full graphics on.

Good Luck!

I just applied the underclock fix to my Sapphire HD 3870 OC edition, been playing 30 minutes now with no errors. I'll keep you posted.
