In Awakening you could attach emblems such as the Highever symbol on to your shield, and wonder if you could do that again in DAI and maybe on blank armour pieces.

Maybe, the customization did look pretty in depth from what they have shown and allot of the Armour's have the Inquisition symbol on them so maybe you can choose to put that on your Armour.
We will have to wait and see what the customization is like I guess.

From what i heard from their panels, they said the customization is very in depth, it seems like we'll be able to add emblems to anything in any color http://biowarebase.n...ppropriate.com/ this is really worth listening to, scroll to the bottom

From what's been described so far, you can customise things like colour, material, fabric and (supposedly) possibly things like metal type.
No word on adding insignia or shield heraldry, but I would be kinda surprised if we couldn't. I liked it in Awakening and it would definitely add a sense of personsalition to the armour and shields.
(Putting a Highever crest on the Human Noble Warden was good for roleplaying, e.g.)
