Interesting. I thought that convo was always about the Virmire casualty.

Same here. But I always found it a bit weird that my Shepard could only talk about Ashley/Kaidan. I mean, I've just watched how the very model of a scientist Salarian heroically sacrificed himself to save the Krogan (or doomed the krogan race)...and all Shepard can think of is Kaidan (who died two years ago).

Prior to the Citadel the crew (or Shepard) didn't have much of a reaction to Thane dying either.

These are cool.

Never knew they existed, except for Kaidan, who is always dead in ME3.

What if you have an unloyal Jack or Samara maintain the biotic bubble with an unloyal Miranda paired as your squadmate with someone who is loyal? Will unloyal Miranda get carried off by the seeker swarm?

Nope, Miranda is immune to the bubble "tally", unloyal or loyal. Unloyal can only die at the final fight or holding the line.

The suicide mission seems rigged for Miranda to survive. I figured they did that because they had some big plan for her role in ME3, but...well.

Maybe it was just so they wouldn't have to record and program different versions of the expository dialogue between Shepard, EDI, and Miranda to allow for every single other possible squadmate?

Seems like it.

Or at the very least, a "plan" for ME2 in general. Too bad someone over there suffers a bad case of ADHD.

That's my bet. Note that Miranda's immunity wears off by the end of the SM. She actually dies before other squadmates with equal hold-the-line scores, and keeping her loyalty is one of the tougher dialogue checks in the game.

I still think that Miranda's loyalty should have been a bigger factor in her subsequent behavior - she's probably the one ME2 crew member who, at least at the beginning, is noticeably more loyal to Cerberus than to Shepard. I don't think it made much sense for her a non-loyal Miranda to quit Cerberus on the spot over the Collector Base decision (though I suppose it doesn't matter much, since a non-loyal Miranda who goes to the final three is going to die anyway).

But even more than that, I'd expect her to be more conflicted in ME3 if not loyal to Shepard. Given that Cerberus operates through compartmentalized cells, I could see her staying with them to work on something like the stolen Crucible data if told that the stories circulating about Cerberus's recent operations (i.e. indoctrination, attacks on places like Grissom Academy or Eden Prime) were just Alliance propaganda. At the very least, the first encounter with a non-loyal Miranda could have been more confrontational - maybe even a VS-style standoff where Shepard has to convince her to abandon Cerberus for good.
