If ME4 is set after the trilogy and the media looks good, I'll pre-order it.
If the game is a prequel, then if and only if the fan reviews are overwhelmingly positive I'll buy the "ultimate" edition with all DLC included for $19.99 a couple years down the road.
For me, the most important element of ME4 is to establish the continuity of the MEU. I need to see that the idea of demolishing the entire franchise has been abandoned.
i think you can say good bye to that.
i am too lazy to look for the article but the devs stated, that the following mass effect game will be set
before or
during the reaper war. in other words prequel or spinoff.
if i remember correctly, they made this statement together with the "no more shepard/shepard-like character" one.
and really .. how would they make a good and believable sequel after the endings (which ending btw? - its not like thewe is only one possible outcome)?
end time scenarios (with all due respect) are nice and really cool if presented properly but we already had this stuff within the krogan/tuchanka arc and somehow it would not really fit to mass effect as a defining feature. in this case, they could start a completely new franchise.
but most likely, bw will do whatever they want. if we like it or not, at the end of the day, sold boxes are what counts and if most of the boxes are sold to people who do not give a flying f*** about storys and just want to frag s**t in space, bioware could care less - the unit is sold nonetheless. if we look at the past design decisions, it is pretty obvious, that "telling good stories" was substituted by "selling more copies" to a braoder audience.
