The next game will outsell its predecessors....

I don't plan on buying it, at least not for the SP if what they told us so far is true .

But you can be right about this, they could make a good commercial game and ignore the hardcore fans, appeal to the masses of people who know nothing about ME.

This board should have a combined forum predictions thread. There's going to be a lot of crow eaten after MENext ships, and it'd be nice to have one-stop-shopping to serve it up.

They'll have to ignore some of the hardcore fans anyway. There's no way to appeal to all of the hardcore fans since we don't agree with each other about very much.

True, but there are ways to mittigate the collateral damage. One of them is to LISTEN to the opinions of fans and have a dialogue. Also, avoid story lines with huge plot holes, the fans of ME ( including me ) are pissed of by this. And I've said it before, Drew Karpyshyn's opinion should be consulted, he was the lead writer for ME 1 and 2 and there were no major complaints from the fans. I'm not saying that the other writers are not good, I'm just pointing out that Karpyshyn's style is what pleased the fans most.

Meh. I thought Drew dug the hole that ME3 fell into.

I'll buy the game, but like every game, I'll wait for the reviews. ME3 had been the exception to my rule. I rarely pre-order anything.

What they'll do is bring in alpha testers, have them play sections of the game, ask them if it was fun to play, what needed improving, what they liked, what they disliked, and answer other questions about the game. They may or may not have played the original mass effect games. This is how companies do things.

I know Mac Walters is in a Lead position on this one, but I don't know who is on the writing team. I don't care who they consult. There are a lot of people who can write in this universe. I just want a good story, quality writing, quality voice acting, and quality game play.

If ME4 is set after the trilogy and the media looks good, I'll pre-order it.

If the game is a prequel, then if and only if the fan reviews are overwhelmingly positive I'll buy the "ultimate" edition with all DLC included for $19.99 a couple years down the road.

For me, the most important element of ME4 is to establish the continuity of the MEU. I need to see that the idea of demolishing the entire franchise has been abandoned.

If it comes from BW, don't trust it until you see it, and even then, if it's kind of vague, assume there's something they're not telling you... like that final breath scene. Nope, not alive.

False. Have you not read through the responses from the "hardcore fans" about the pointlessness of ME2's plot and the inanity of the Baby Reaper?

i think you can say good bye to that.

i am too lazy to look for the article but the devs stated, that the following mass effect game will be set before or during the reaper war. in other words prequel or spinoff.
if i remember correctly, they made this statement together with the "no more shepard/shepard-like character" one.

and really .. how would they make a good and believable sequel after the endings (which ending btw? - its not like thewe is only one possible outcome)?
end time scenarios (with all due respect) are nice and really cool if presented properly but we already had this stuff within the krogan/tuchanka arc and somehow it would not really fit to mass effect as a defining feature. in this case, they could start a completely new franchise.

but most likely, bw will do whatever they want. if we like it or not, at the end of the day, sold boxes are what counts and if most of the boxes are sold to people who do not give a flying f*** about storys and just want to frag s**t in space, bioware could care less - the unit is sold nonetheless. if we look at the past design decisions, it is pretty obvious, that "telling good stories" was substituted by "selling more copies" to a braoder audience.

that variation being living as opposed to dying. And yeah, that's obviously the ending I'm talking about, seeing as how I was referring to the breathe scene and not the other 3 endings where he's dead.

No, they haven't directly confirmed anything yet. Not even the title.

Agree.  And they would not put file name as a End03_shepard_alive_Fem /male  And every other files also have name indicating what happens in the movie, so they did not just put it for the lulz.

Players shouldn't have to open up the files and read them.  That's not "clarity and closure"

To be fair, Shepard isn't actually shown to be "dead" in the other variations of Destroy, either.

DUN DUN DUN.  ;)

Even if Shep is definitively shown to survive later on, though, the purpose of that scene, there will always be the Annie Wilkes of the fanbase.

No, they shouldn't. But not many people really had to look at those files in order to "get it". However, whoever thinks BW just threw the breathe scene in there just to signify his last breath is simply a dullard. And if said dullard needs any proof as to the survival of Shepard, the fine print is there for them.
