I charm her in 3, punch her in 1 and 2. I hate to bring up a sore subject, but... I think it would have been a much more interesting dynamic to have her on the Normandy, than Allers. Especially if you punched her in the first 2 games. Over the course of the game, you could have become friends... or more.

Wasted opportunity.

Honestly, the boxes in the cargo area Allers displaces have a more interesting dynamic. Having said that replacing Allers's role in the game with any other known reporter would have been much more interesting.

It's far more satisfying to wreck her verbally in 2, and in 3 she gets a chance to stop being a jerk and start being a human being. I usually don't punch her in 1 but she's got it coming there.

while punching her is fun, its not wise ... the camera is still running and shepard would look like a cheap bully.

it is better to beat her at her own game.

Unfortunately, it is not obvious in ME1 that the renegade response will result in a literal smack down. I picked the renegade option one time and was appalled to see Shepard knock her lights out. Similarly, it is non-obvious that getting Manuel to shut up involves socking him. ME1 should have definitely been more explicit in telling you what your character was going to do if you picked a certain option. (Actually, that applies to all the games.)

I had my canon paragade Shep stick to dialogue in all three games. Shepard comes across as being more intelligent if he doesn't let her 'snide insinuations' or 'disingenuous assertions' rattle him, and can defeat her with words. Punching her might be funny, but your Shep has just played into what she wanted...which was to make your character look stupid on camera.

As fun as it is to hit her I usually end up going for the paragon responses particularly the one in ME2.

No, I do not hit her on any serious run. In ME3 I just walk away, even though the Paragon interrupt is clearly the right decision. It's just not something I could have forseen myself to feel honest about taking it.

Primal is primal, can be good or bad, helpful or damaging. The first urge for majority of humans being insulted to their face, not the result of thinking it through (even over a few seconds).

I don't see the reason to randomly punch a random journalist just for being slightly rude and annoying.

Actually I've just thought that the violence she suffers is a bit disturbing. An ordinary women is basically assaulted for doing her job (and you are encouraged to do so). There is no arguable greater good or punishment for misdeeds aspect.
I know it's 'only a game' but that argument doesn't stand up to scrutiny.
I think I might charm her from now on.

I agree - a Shepard of either gender is logically going to be much physically stronger than a reporter, which makes it petty bullying at best, and MShep punching her is especially distasteful. Some of my Shepards will yell at her or walk off the interview, but punching her feels excessive.

This. It's really uncomfortable for me to see a trained soldier, backed up with who knows what kind of genetic mods and then Cerberus implants, knock an unarmed and unthreatening civilian to the ground hard enough that she is potentially rendered unconscious. It's just really distasteful, and I'm really not comfortable that this is a running gag, something that's played for laughs.

Yes. I don't punch her.

This. I see nothing entertaining about a man striking a woman. I can't even get into women's MMA (more power to you girls if that's what you want to pursue, it just rubs me the wrong way).

The only time its funny when a man hits a woman is if that woman is Cersei Lannister

I never punch, her.

In ME2 i do give her the renegade speech, and use the charm on her in ME3, find it much better.

Even if I liked beating women, which I could not possibly less, there are krogan that do that kind a lot more than Shepard ever could.

I do. It's better then punching imo. If I went around punching everyone who pissed me off I would be in jail for life.

I have one a-hole Shepard who goes completely renegade on everything (hate that guy) and he obviously punches her but he is the only one.
I see no reason to punch her. She may be annoying in ME1 and downright obnoxious in ME3 but that's no reason to punch someone. Sometimes I charm my way through the interviews, most of the time I renegade-persuade. I think it makes much more sense for the kinds of characters I play. Besides, that scene in ME2, when Shep recites all the names of the ships that were lost in the battle of the Citadel is pretty cool and way more bad-ass than punching her.

Cid Shepard doesn't hit her, for several reasons.

LisbethShep, my hot-headed paragade, does twice.

MelisandreShep, my devious renegon, relishes making her look like a fool on the air.

Yes, you're seeing that right: my more blue-leaning Shepard is responsible for my MEU's slugging of Al-Jilani.

On that topic I think someone hitting Melisandre is also called for...

Pretty much this. Bullying the press is the tactic of dictators. If I couldn't have Emily Wong, I'd rather take AlJilani on board than that boring and poorly acted Allers woman.

Sometimes I punch her in all three games. But my canon Shepard renegade charms her in ME1, Punches her ME2 cause he could, not because he felt insulted. In ME3, He punches her cause i like the small fight back from her. In other words my Shep doesn't take her personally. He'll either punch her for the hell of it or tell her off. I wouldn't have minded her on board the Normandy for a sparring match.

I havn't keept a single save where I punched Al-jilani. I did try it out just to see what it looked like however, (it's just a game). But it's not something I wanted in my playthrough, but I think it's good that the game has those "wrong" things in it, it makes the "right" options mean more.

If a game didn't allow people to do the wrong things then the moraly right choices would loose it's meaning.

Im paragon but I still punch her. I literally told that other reporter to screw off too.
