Ok, I am aware that this may have come up before, but I have  more direct question.

Now, I have a copy of ME2 pre ordered and paid off, but it's NOT the collectors Edition. I would LOVE to get a collectors edition, but it was disabled. I know the people who work there, and they told me that it was open for pre-order for about a week.
What exactly is going on here? I can search and find the collectors edition at a large number of other stores. I am aware I can go to another store to get ME2 Collectors, but I want the M-490 Blackstorm gun.
So as far as I can tell, EA or Bioware (I don't know who's call it was) is basically forcing a boost in sales by forcing people who want the GameStop exclusive content and the Collectors Edition content to buy two copies of the game at two entirely different stores.
This is just wrong! I really want an explanation for this, because I really do want both the CE and the GameStop content, but I can't afford to get 2 copies of the game. Even if I could, it's still in my eyes basically an evil tactic to make the appearance of better sale numbers.

Well, that seems to be your local gamestops fault. I pre-ordered mine no prob (although, I am going to get it off of Steam anyway, so I'm not going to pick up my pre-order from gamestop, ill eat the 5 bucks itll cost me).

Each store is given a certain number of copies for pre-orders. Once those are sold out, that's it. They make get more on launch day, so when you go to pick it up, check and see if there are any available. Otherwise, the only way get one is to wait a few days, or maybe try a big box store that's been allocated a bunch more.

Keep in mind, the issue isn't with Bioware, but the retailers themselves.

GameStop is SOLD OUT of CEs so do NOT expect to be able to find one at gamestop. Hell GameStop has been sold out of CEs since late November 2009 or something.

Hey don't blame GameStop for your failure to preorder on time. If you did not expect the CE to be sold out months before release then you don't deserve to be able to buy one. BioWare devs HAVE said months ago that the supply of CEs was VERY limited and likely to run out fast.

And yet, every other game out there that said that never had that happen.
Also, the pre-order was a Christmas present. Explain how I had a choice on when I could pre-order it?

They LIED. The DAO CEs were also sold out months ahead and this was just a couple months back mind you. Not really something they should quickly forget about.

I keep my statement on it being a Christmas present. I was not going to be able to afford it, I got It as a present.

Keep in mind that not all Gamestops are sold out, though I would expect most to be. I actually just pre-ordered mine today. Got my pre-order bonus codes too.

My Gamestop won't even be doing a midnight release because they only got 30 pre-orders for mass effect 2. Honestly? Not even a midnight release?! I ordered the CE edition and they told me they could have taken plenty more CE pre-orders. I don't know if I should be happy or sad. Sad that Utah gamers are a minority or happy that I will never have to worry about not getting a game. Ever.

I'm going to go with the latter.

I was wondering if my Gamestop would hold it. Looks like I gotta call them tomorrow and ask to make sure.. Otherwise I'm making a run for Best Buy xD

Lol. My local gamestop is doing a midnight release and I'm tempted to go. I have school the next day though and I'm afraid if I get it at midnight I wont stop playing. And I have it ordered off Amazon so I wouldn't get all the armors from the start. Got the Standard from Gamestop and release date delivery for the Collectors Edition. So I would only get the Terminus. And I am probably going to spend at the very least an hour making my Shep look just like me.

In summary I will probably wait.

Gamestop only got so many copies and they sold out fast because everyone wanted that black storm gun.Unfortunately the only advice I can give you is wait one week after launch, and check gamestop for returns,It's always some one who bought Mass Effect for the first time and didn't know it was also an RPG.
and I don't think even that will help get you that black storm gun.

That, or try Best Buy. They might have more copies then they should.

I have had more then 75% of the stuff from Best Buy that I got break or fail on me. If I get the same thing from another store, it's fine. I am NOT going to that store.

My argument is mainly with the fact they bundled an exclusive gun with Game Stop, (The only one being advertised as well as being the one most people want) and did not allow a proper amount of CE titles to go with that store.

The day the CE was announced I preordered at gamestop.com so I could get all the extras. Why? So I was guaranteed a copy. Looks to me like you're SOL. That's just how CEs work, my friend.

the day they announced the collectors edition i went straight to eb games and pre-ordered it AND paid for it in full.I guess what i am trying to say is that is what you get for screwing around and not pre-ordering it on the first day.(of course for those of you who did not have the money at the time i understand.)

When the CE of DA:O got sold out so quickly, I knew Mass Effect 2 would follow suit so I preordered on day 1.

Dude must just be your area cause i'm in Utah (Centerville) and they sold out of CE's in a few hours and are having a massive midnight launch party. I did not get my CE ordered on time (naturally) so I ordered it offline, and will pick up a standard edition as well night off. Yes I'm buying two copies of the game...no I don't have a good reason to other than I really bad wanted the CE version....

OMG WAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!

Dude, I asked the bloke at my GS and was told that they only order a limited number of CE's. They run into issues in the past of ordering too much CE's that end up not selling and costing the company money. So there's no "proper amount" at all. They'll gladly sell out of CE's before they order more. If Bioware doesnt produce anymore then its not GS's fault. Thier bottom line is more important than your happiness. Its life man, live with it, or open up a game store yourself... And then name it NOOBSTOP.

BTW I never knew the BestBuy conspiracy untill now! Really? 75%! W0wz0rz!

My gamestop said they didn't run out of CE but they were told they couldn't take preorders for it. The guy told me to preorder the regular version and when i go pick it up, if they have a CE copy I could switch it out of it. Seems like a lot of hassle for a game, but its Mass Effect so its worth it.
