My Gamestop won't even be doing a midnight release because they only got 30 pre-orders for mass effect 2. Honestly? Not even a midnight release?! I ordered the CE edition and they told me they could have taken plenty more CE pre-orders. I don't know if I should be happy or sad. Sad that Utah gamers are a minority or happy that I will never have to worry about not getting a game. Ever.

I'm going to go with the latter.

Dude must just be your area cause i'm in Utah (Centerville) and they sold out of CE's in a few hours and are having a massive midnight launch party. I did not get my CE ordered on time (naturally) so I ordered it offline, and will pick up a standard edition as well night off. Yes I'm buying two copies of the game...no I don't have a good reason to other than I really bad wanted the CE version....

Well I live in provo and I only know like 5 people here that actually really like games...... Yep Provo is mormon town time for me to move. Centerville eh? Im going to keep that in mind...

Seriously, I did not mean to create an issue. I simply checked online and saw that a lot of other stores have it available where the Game Stop by me ran out insanely quick.
Also, the collectors edition of Dragon Age was available to pre-order until la week before it's release by me. I didn't get it, but as I said I know the people who work there.
Also, Bioware may not be calling the shots on how many collectors copies that are/were to be made. EA could have easily made them, so I am asking for someone from either EA or Bioware to explain why this happened. It doesnt make sense.
Now then, in direct response to Mepiolt, I am complaining about my situation and hoping for an answer. I had things like this happen before, and I know it's life. The difference is that there is a lot more marketing and a much larger crowd for this. If I am stuck with standard, I will take it, but I do want some answers.
And yes, I have had way to may issues with Best Buy. Around me there are about 5 or 6 Best Buy locations, and I have had issues at every one. I intentionally went out one day to get about 10 things, so I spread the items out and got them between the stores. There was a computer mouse, a few DVD's, I think some cable, and I don't remember what else. Thing is, I had to take almost all of it back.
I don't consider it a conspiracy, but merely a improperly managed chain. They got too bid, and now cut corners as much as possible to get every last penny they can get.

Should've got it while it was new...

I'd say it's just as much your fault as Gamestop and Bioware, no offense.

I would day Gamstop didn't order enough copies or didn't get enough copies. Also, each store is allotted a certain amount of copies, so that could be it as well. A similar thinghappend to me, I called and asked if they had any CE up for reserve, they said yes, I went in the next morning and it had ben disabled. I went home in a rush and pre ordered online and ended up getting it. The next day, the pre order was disabled on the website.

I went to preorder ME2:CE a few weeks ago at Gamestop, but couldn't find it anywhere on their site. I know it used to be there though. So I stopped in the local store (in DC) to check there, and the clerk said they had just found out they wouldn't be getting the CE at all. They said they were actually having to return peoples preorder money. Looking on the ME2 website, the only places to order the CE is EA store and Amazon.

thats exactly what happened.

Well actually what they are doing here is offering to put the pre order on the regular version - and you'll get the strategy guide for free.

I know for a fact this is wrong, at least I kow it is not company wide. They will be shipping ME2 CE to stores and from the online store as well. The store you went to must have been speaking for itself.

I was told pre-orders for CE sold out in 4 hours through-out the west coast... perhaps even nation wide.

Unless you were in line the minute they started the pre-orders, you were SOL

Well, if you look at my posts, you will see that I got it because of Christmas. I would not have been able to get it at all, and I am lucky enough to have a family that's willing to do things like this.
Basically, I had no choice on when to pre-order. If I knew I would get one for Christmas, I would have put money down on day one to ensure I would get the collectors edition.
Also, please remember that Bioware made the game and EA is distributing the game. Because of this, it could be EA, Bioware, and/or GameStop's fault. Without knowing the details, you can't blame one.

Actually, I would be happy with an explanation that does not identify which company made the call. I would prefer to know, but that may not be possible.

My local GameStop doesn't allow pre-orders of the CEs. You can pre-order the regular edition, and redeem it as a CE if it's still in stock, but it's first come first serve. I'm gonna be down there early thursday to secure myself a CE.

Sure enough they didn't have it. Fallowing there rules, I picked up the game and returned it unopend. I was able to keep the DLC code, and I found a store that has the collectors edition. Well, I am waiting for it to be shipped to the store now...

This really shouldn't have been needed, and I still would like an answer from someone at either Bioware or EA. I am leaning more towards EA, only because they are the ones marketing and calling sales shots for the game.
