Hello everyone! I just wanted to give a quick heads up about continued changes we are making on this site. Today we are updating our site rules (you can find these here: http://social.biowar...page/site-rules) to be more comprehensive and cover what has traditionally been "gray area". I hope this helps everyone have better interactions on the forums. Please make use of the report system when you need to. I have moderators who periodically check the site 24-hours a day and that's how they know there’s a problem.

The second change we're making is updating the structure of categories and subforums. Eventually, this will include some fun new ones that I think you’ll like, but for now, it's mainly shifting things to create a little more organization and parameters around discussion. This should focus each subforum to a group of topics. Don’t worry if you post in the wrong subforum or category at first – our moderators are aware of this change and will actively be moving threads into the proper subforum/category. You will not be penalized (there are always exceptions, mainly being things like doing this on purpose to troll etc etc, but I feel that mostly it will be people doing it accidentally while we get used to this new system).

If you'd like to discuss these changes, feel free to discuss them here. Posts in other subforums or categories will be removed in order to keep the site focused and on topic.

Thanks! I should go. :wizard:

" but opinions must be expressed in a reasonable and polite matter"
English isn't my first language but I think it's supposed to be "manner " and not "matter"?
Oh and almost all the sub forums went poof , but I guess it's normal.

The rules updates do seem clearer than before, but I wanted to ask about one section in particular:

"Spam: Do not post communication lacking in meaningful content or posts that do not contribute directly to the conversation. Some examples of this include: +1, first, bump, /agree, etc. People who spam post links to non-BioWare products, or repetitive information also fall into this category."

I imagine that posting links to non-BioWare products repeatedly in an "ad" or "spambot" form is certainly a problem, but would that include a single post linking an article in a topic's OP, to discuss another game, for example?

What about linking to a YouTube video of a BioWare game? Many ME 3 MP discussions are built around, and supported by, such links, and I wanted to make sure they wouldn't prove to be a problem.

It seem as though the rule clarification means to prohibit repeated posting of said links, but I just wanted to clarify whether singly-posted on-topic links would still be fine.

Oh, uh...

We don't seem to have an ME 3 MP forum, anymore.

Is this a permanent change?

EDIT: It still exists, but it can't easily be found through "Forum Home."

EDIT 2: The sub forums are still accessible, using an extrernal link, but they cannot be accessed internally. I believe that "Mass Effect Franchise" is the problem, as it is currently restricted. As such, it doesn't appear in the "Forum Home" Menu.

Thank you for catching that. We will fix :)

Yes that's specifically referrring to something like an advertisement for like, I dunno, a Shammy. If you're posting a fan YouTube video of a video game compilation or something, or a comparison of video game X to Mass Effect, that certainly would be within the scope. It's always case by case. We put that in to cover spambots and people trying to come in and promote their personal projects that have nothing to do with furthering discussion of our games or fan related topics. I hope that clears it up!

And to answer your other question, I see the Mass Effect Multiplayer Discussion so it is there on the Homepage. It's under Mass Effect 3, on the second line. Between Story & Campaign and Fan Creations :)

The Dragon Age forum is at the very top of the page and all the subforums are listed within the "Franchise" category. I'm not sure what you are referring to. Try refreshing your page. It might not have loaded the new category structure for you yet.

In the short term, you can go to "Newsfeed," switch to Everyone, if your Friends haven't posted in the DA forums recently, and then click on a thread link that way.

Alternatvely, you can access it through any links on your own profile, as well (under "Forums" or recent posts.)

I think they just have to switch the new Forum headings to "unrestricted" so that users can access them.

"Only users with Origin accounts considered in “good standing†may post in the forums"

Weird typo in Rule 8.

Why are the off topic forums the only forums left?

EDIT: There they are I guess.

I also can't see any Mass Effect 1, 2, or 3 forums, nor any Dragon Age forums other than Legends. I've tried "forum home" and I've tried refreshing. No luck.

They have been switched to "unrestricted" and I no longer receive the "You do not have access to this forum" red print warning. :)

Hey guys, the forums should be visible to everyone now. It looks like there might have been a caching problem on some of the web servers which I believe I've fixed. If you still can't see them please let us know.

I think you guys need to do better at picking terminology for responses.

For example in rule 3, it lists trolling as "Trolling is posting with the intent to provoke an emotional response from another user."

But doesn't that mean if I compliment someone I'm trolling them? Because I'm making a response meant to provoke a emotional response from another user, that emotional response being happiness or joy. But that is a clear cut violation of the rules as they now stand, so wouldn't that mean anyone who says anything that might remotely cause a emotional reaction be it positive or negative should be banned from the forums?

I figured that was Ancient Prothean. =]

Anyway, recommend rinsing a post through Notepad or the like before posting, otherwise weird things tend to happen.

Our developers and moderators are not out on a witch hunt. If you distrust us that much, you should probably not use this site.

In fact, our very first rule is: 1) Be Respectful and courteous
The BioWare Forums is a safe and constructive space to discuss BioWare Edmonton/Montreal developed video game content and related items. In order to keep this a fun place for all community members...

These rules are not for people doing things right. They are for people who aren't abiding by our values so our moderators can enforce the behavior we want on our site and course correct.

Yeah. The rules are clear enough with the context clue and having to specify negative emotions. It's also the mod's job to decide if someone reports a user that the reported post or topic is actually breaking the rules. If anyone actually goes around reporting people for invoking positive emotions, nothing's going to come of it.

Edit: Appreciate that all the series is placed in one large block though since that should enourage people to actually use the designated forums for those topics instead of just posting everything in DA:I.

Edit2: Don't think we need the mods listed anymore under the forums or topics though since people can't PM them if something happens now anyway unless their friends.

I miss when mods wouldn't respond for a while and a semantic war would end up breaking out over common sense. X(

Thanks for answering though, I guess.

Agreed on #2. If we can't PM and we have a report button that works now, it becomes a little redundant (and cluttered) to list every single person who has the ability to edit a post on each forums. Or maybe edit the list down to just the regulars who actually moderate the forum and not just everyone who has access from four years ago?

Just thinking outloud.
