Might try those!! Am terrible w the phoenix characters.
Just remember melee is a lifesaver for the Vanguard.
Especially light melee. Got to love it
Oh and my build for the adept is kinda basic. I rotate guns between talon, acolyte+csmg, wraith and venom.
Build
For the Vanguard I have a melee build. It's really fun and effective with venom shotgun. Basically everytime you smash you cancel the animation with heavy melee. Shoot (ammo primes) -> charge (tech burts, fire explosion etc) -> smash (if you got cooldown then just shoot to stagger and heavy melee) -> cancel animation with heavy melee
Build

Absolutely. Unless you hang back all day shooting your gun, you'll struggle without melee between cooldowns.
Take Bonus Power in BC for 50% less CDs to worry about
But yeah, his heavy melee is fairly fast to pull off (unlike the light one) and reliably staggers most things long enough for you to be out of CD.

This is my preferred set-up.
I really like the Piranha on him which, from my observation, doesn't appear to be a popular choice. But it works great for the play style I use him for and he's especially devastating to Reapers, which have a lot of armored units that are pretty easy to bring down fast.
I always start with a Singularity, then close in and hug any corner or wall you can, Smash, shoot Piranha until your cooldown is done, then Smash again. Just keep moving and dodging/rolling as needed, using Singularity to scoop up any husks or cannibals that are trying to cause problems (or just shoot that marauder 2-3 times to strip his shields and let him join in the Singularity fun), Smash and shoot the brutes/banshees/ravagers, etc. Singularity is also nice in that you just sit one on a Ravager, kill him with the Piranha, then the Singularity takes care of the swarmer cleanup.
Easy peasy.

This is easily my second favorite character in the game. He is a bit squishy, but if you max fitness and slap on a Stronghold Package gear, he's fine. That's easy to do in my build because I find myself really never using Lash, so I've stopped speccing into it at all and max everything else.

Acolyte could work, I suppose. It's mostly a vehicle for a power amp. But honestly, I like the Talon 'cause it's a Cerberus gun on an ex-Cerb. Like he just walked straight out of Dragoon Academy and got on the nearest Alliance Shuttle.
