Stan Stan and Dany? Yes, she is arrogant, but what happened in Mereen serves as a lesson. That's why I think Martin wrote the whole knot anyway, to teach her what it means to rule. If she went straight to Westeros, though, she would have won anyway. Now that Stannis had time, they might fight with equal numbers.

Except Dragons.

No one f*cks with Dragons.

You do realize that among the three Aegon arrived in westeros with, they all for the most part died in battle right?

Balerion may have been two centuries old but it didn't stop him from getting that bolt through the heart and falling to the ground and flopping like a carp.

Just saying.

He does seem to prefer to whole 'no bs' policy, but that idealism will get him killed. Politics requires scheming, and with it, schemers. His saving grace is that he too knows how to scheme and isn't such a dullard as Stark and Dany in the political department. He knows the game well, perhaps not as well as Tywin, Tyrion and the other top schemers, but well enough to survive at least.

I know and that is a fact I hate about politics. Generally, I don't dislike Tywin, his great failing is not that he's a schemer but that he's obsessed with leaving a legacy. He still respects his enemies, and even praises Stannis. Either way I just want to see Littlefinger get hanged, or executed or something. That ****** is the reason the war started in the first place, that and because Ned Stark didn't what was necessary. I don't dislike Tywin or Tyrion, they are honest about what they do at least, I don't think I dislike Varys either, he's actually doing what he's doing for a reason.

If Stannis ends up being king, snakes from the likes of Littlefinger will not survive. I don't know about Dany, like Robb Stark, she's still young and that mess in Mereen was a dumb idea if you ask me. You can't just change the culture, ways and habits of a whole region just like that, it was as dumb as trying to hold the Riverlands, a warzone by all accounts and purposes, which has been that way in most wars in Westeros anyway.

Varys will fail, his ambition will be for not because his false king will fall like the rest!

Stannis will sit on that bloody chair!

Aye, but the dany fan inside me insists that she'll learn from most of her mistakes.

But the Stan the Man fan is greater; he will prevail.

Stannis has learned a lot over the course of the series. I can't say the same about Dany.

It's not too long now till we see the Battle at the Wall.

Stannis quote of the day:

"His eyes were sunk in deep pits, his close-cropped beard no more than a shadow across his hollow cheeks and bony jawbone. Yet there was power in his stare, an iron ferocity that told Asha this man would never, ever turn back from his course."

- Asha Greyjoy

I can't remember if I've posted on this thread before, but I feel the need to extend my support for it regardless. Not only have I rooted for Stannis since the very beginning, he's also by far the best non-POV character in the series, and gets all the best lines.

Here, here!

Say, I should make a Greyjoy Appreciation thread. One of my favorite families in the entire series, especially Theon:

The fury on Holly's face turned to horror. "Oh, **** me bloody. The rope." She gave a hysterical laugh. "Frenya has the rope." Then she grunted and grabbed her stomach. A quarrel had sprouted from her gut. When she wrapped a hand around it, blood leaked through her fingers. "Kneelers on the inner wall..." she gasped, before a second shaft appeared between her breasts. Holly grabbed for the nearest merlon and fell. The snow that she'd knocked loose buried her with a soft thump.

Shouts rang out from their left. Jeyne Poole was staring down at Holly as the snowy blanket over her turned from white to red. On the inner wall the crossbowman would be reloading, Theon knew. He started right, but there were men coming from taht direction too, racing toward them with swords in hand. Far off to the north he heard a warhorn sound. Stannis, he thought wildly. Stannis is our only hope, if we can reach him. The wind was howling, and he and the girl were trapped.

The crossbow snapped. A bolt passed within a foot of him, shattering the crust of frozen snow that had plugged the closest crenel. Of Abel, Rowan, Squirrel, and the others there was no sign. He and the girl were alone. If they take us alive, they will deliver us to Ramsay.

Theon grabbed Jeyne about the waist and jumped.

Indeed; Theon, Asha, and Victarion are all among my favourite characters, and with the former two now in the same location as Stannis, my anticipation for the Winterfell plotline is almost as high as the rest of the storylines combined.

As far as the show goes, I don't really care about Stannis, but I support him just because Ser Davos the Onion kniggit is awesome.

Book Stannis > Show Stannis

Show Stannis is basically the butchered version of the original Stannis.

While I agree with Book Stannis > Series Stannis, I think the difference is mostly in how the two versions of the character are written. Series Stannis is perfectly cast and acted, IMO.

Series Stannis is cool too. I think there are even some improvements to his character, like the little shred of humanity he shows towards his daughter.

Can't wait for a Stannis POV and have his inner thoughts something totally other than his outer.

"Davos, I see you've returned. What of the Stark boy?" I do hope he enjoys the black of my leather this eve.

Stannis the Mannis!

Book Stannis has some of the funniest lines in the series. His witty, sarcastic humor is sorely missed in the show.

Renly: "You'll be pleased to know she came to me a maid."
Stannis: "In your bed she's like to die that way."

"Weddings have become more perilous than battles, it would seem."

Davos: "Lord Celtigar called it admirable."
Stannis: "Had I shown him the contents of my privy, he would have called that admirable as well."

"Half my army is made up of unbelievers. I will have no burnings. Pray harder."

Jon: "The freefolk despise kneelers. . . Let them keep their pride and they will love you better."
Stannis: "It is swords I need from them, not kisses."

"Without a son of Winterfell to stand beside me, I can only hope to win the north by battle. That requires stealing a leaf from my brother's book. Not that Robert ever read one."

Davos: "And it's four less fingernails to clean."
Stannis: "Fewer."
Davos: "Pardon?"
Stannis: "Four fewer fingernails to clean."

"You are not the only turn cloak here, it would seem. Would that all the lords of Westeros had but a single neck."

"Robert could ****** in a cup and men would call it wine, but I offer them cold clear water and they squint in suspicion and mutter to each other about how queer it tastes."

@ FraQ

Don't forget his epic demolishing of Janos Slynt.

Stannis ground his teeth. “It is not my wish to tamper with your rights and traditions. As to royal guidance, Janos, if you mean that I ought to tell your brothers to choose you, have the courage to say so.”

That took Lord Janos aback. He smiled uncertainly and began to sweat, but Bowen Marsh beside him said, “Who better to command the black cloaks than a man who once commanded the gold, sire?”

“Any of you, I would think. Even the cook.”

Aw man, you could make an entire list of cool Stannis moments.

"Ned found it hard to imagine what could frighten Stannis Baratheon, who had once held Storm's End through a year of siege, surviving on rats and boot leather while the Lords Tyrell and Redwyne sat outside with their hosts, banqueting in sight of his walls."

- Ned Stark

This was the very moment where I started to love Stannis.

The Greyjoy Appreciation Thread is up BTW.
