I don't think Stannis will be the one to sit the throne in the end. Neither will Daenerys. I honestly think no one will sit the throne and Westeros as a unified kingdom will simply cease to be. Just a hunch I have based on what I've read and seen thus far.

 

 

If anyone will get it, it'd be Daenerys. That's just the way the books have been leaning so far.

 

Stannis is the best leader but in the book series it looks like

he and his army will freeze to death outside Winterfell. He is the best leader, but his obstacles are the greatest, and his best chance was Blackwater.

He's rather mediocre in the show.

Anyway my thoughts on Stannis...

(going to put this in a spoiler for non book readers)

Right now I'm supporting Stannis out of convenience. He's the only one doing anything about the others (y'know the things which could destroy the entire world and kind of make the game of thrones meaningless in comparison) and he's fighting the Freys and Boltons so hell yeah, I'm supporting him. But only because there's no one else.

 

There are kind of 2 paths I can see Stannis going down at the moment:

1: Melisandre path. He starts going nuts on the whole R'hollor thing, burning anyone who defies him, desecrating all other gods, throws away anything that gets in his way to becoming king (even if it's his own people's safety), while following all of Melisandre's wishes. If he does this, the screw it, I'll find someone else to support. maybe Aegon (or if my unlikely-to-happen-but-I-really-want-it-to-be-true theory happens, Bronn when he turns out to be the sleaziest and greatest player of the game of all time)

 

Or 2: The Davos Path. Stannis starts putting the welfare of the people of westeros as his top priority (even if it inhibits his attempts at gaining the throne), sorts out his religious-freedoms policy, and outright refuses to follow some of Melisandre's more fanatical ideas. If he does this the you can bet I'm going to be going:

The Baratheons in general are pretty ****** badass.

 

 

I still have my money on Stannis being the valonquar, if that nonsense is indeed true.
