Promoting the Female Inquisitor

However, I was also disappointed that in the middle of being excited about this, I also had to be annoyed. When describing the Inquisitor, producer Cameron Lee mentions that you can be different classes and races ... but he also refers to the Inquisitor as "he" and doesn't bother to mention that you can also be a woman. The images on screen while he's saying it are all of the various male Inquisitor armor designs.
There are plenty of shots of the concept art of various female Inquisitors, so it's not like BioWare have forgotten she exists. I just think it was a poor choice of soundbite that made it sound like whoever made the trailer cares more about players who want to play as elves and dwarves than players who are female. When describing all the things the Inquisitor can be, how hard is it to say "the Inquisitor can also be a woman"?

As you said yourself, there's plenty of art and I doubt they would take out something that was in both Dragon Age games.

I believe that players prefer to hear new things about a game with confirmation that what made the previous titles enjoyable is still there (unlike what happened to the new Thief game). Races being reincluded? Cool, that's a different step from DA:2. What new prestige classes do you have? What will our party be like? And so on.

Here's the part about women in particular:
Would you be able to tell us if the female Inquisitor is going to be marketed/showed off in trailers as much as the male is? — fan question
Sorry, I have no idea. Mike has been asked this at previous cons, and has said he (and people further up the line, presumably) are interested in having a greater female PC presence in things like trailers, but I personally have no idea when that would manifest, or how.
I believe they’re well aware there’s interest in giving the female PC some public love, and I personally think there’s also benefit to advertising the fact one can play as female (as opposed to assuming everyone out there already knows this), but that does require the iconic female model to first be ready to go. I guess we’ll see?

I don't mean that I think they've taken gender selection out. That would be ridiculous. I mean that they should have taken two seconds to tell people - especially potential new players - that they have that feature.
I agree with you, particularly on the new players point.
Sure, plenty of people know you can usually select your character's sex, but that doesn't mean everybody does. And video games are not exactly known for being particularly inviting to women, so trying to let people know, "Hey, all you lady gamers are welcome to play this game too" is a very important thing if they want to 1.) Have women play the game and 2.) Increase the number of female gamers in general.
That's not to say that women only plaly games where they can play women, but I still think it's a gesture of goodwill considering how many games default to men only (or the only female options are over-the-top sexualized and clearly aimed at straight male gamers).
It's similar to the inclusion of same-sex romances. I really hope Bioware puts it out there that they're in the game because it definitely makes a difference to at least some of those people out there.

The OP has a valid point, but it is a frequent topic. Fair warning to the OP: These threads rarely end well. I fully support female PC in marketing and have debated passionately on the subject. I know I'm not alone on this, and neither are you. Just grab your flame retardant suit and be prepared.

Ads and trailers are not here to make the current fanbase feel good about themselves.

Honestly i don't give a $@%@$ about whats on the cover of the box. Because honestly here is what is going to happen, Put a woman on the cover and you will get people "Using sex to sell the title" While others will say "yay female on box cover yay womens 'rights' "
And if they use a male one, "Boo, BW is a sexiest company who are propousfully keeping the glass ceiling in place"
And every manner of comments in between.

I'm certain they know people would like to see a female PC in a trailer.

It is a forum topic roughly at least once every ten days.
Lump this in with voiced protagonist/dialogue wheel debates, Qunari/Kossith discussions, Mage/Templar War, multiplayer requests and modkit/toolkit threads. They will just materialize over and over again, just as par for the course.

Yes, but first you need to be inspired to start that research, no? That's the logic, I believe.spirosz wrote...
If you're a gamer, female or male and want to purchase a game, do some research. I'm leaving it at that. I would love to see more advertisement with the female version, but at the end of the day, I do research before I purchase a game and of course, word of mouth.

It's really not something to get extremely upset over.

Edit - they do mention the Inquisitor, my mistake. Though, they are males speaking, I would assume it would be natural for them to speak in terms of "his, he, etc".

You forgot LI requests and discussions about consequence. Especially the latter.

"Your Inquisitor, your choice" type of advertising.
Regardless, I don't think the issue is something worth losing sleep over.
That is about as constructive as I can get on the topic, so I'll leave it at that.
