Fun fact: That is false. Unless you count the Farmville mothers and the Angrybirds chicks.

Actually, it's close to true.  Regardless, female gamers aren't a "small" group - it's just males are more vocal, for obvious reasons.

It's not really that close to true. It definitely is nowhere near more.

I'd think the statistic that's more relevant in this case is how many people played maleShep over femShep in ME3 despite the femShep marketing and the fact that a lot of men might've played femShep as well. I'd wager it's more than the ratio of women playing maleShep but that's relevant to the case of marketing maleShep.

It's not even close to true not even if you indeed count the Farmville mothers and Angrybird chicks and Candy Crush girls. Even with those included, women still make up less than half of the gaming population.

Female gamers are definitely a small group. A very small group.

And even if women were half the gaming population(Lol) that doesn't mean the gender ratio is even across all games and genres.

DING DING DING DING.

Fun fact:Women make up more than half the gaming demographic so ignoring them because reasons is short sighted.

Much like the feminist lie about how 1 in 4 women are "raped" repeatting that bull dung doesn't make it anymore true.

It was already adressed prior. Linking to these statistics doesn't stop the fact that they're mostly irrelevant.

I'd like BioWare to go back to 2007 where the game world was the game cover. That classic Mass Effect cover where you see Saren, maybe some prothean language, a red planet, Ashley, Garrus, the Normandy, Geth, some other ships. That screamed, "Space epic". What will Drago Age scream? Or will it be a lonely tree in the forest with no one around.

I've see one person on here claiming that the reason why only 18% of players picked femshep was due to marketting. The rationalization hamster went into overdrive with that one.

That's because MaleShep had two+games worth of marketing not to mention he got the lion's share of trailers while Femshep only got one.

My point exactly.

Like someone else pointed out earlier, only 30% of all the Mass Effect players are female, and that is actually a very generous estimate. Judged on the gender-ratio on this forum and the gender-ratio of all my gaming friends who played Mass Effect, I'd say it's less than that.

Are you suggesting players are too dimwitted to notice the female option in the character creator and need marketting to tell them?

And the % of femshep players actually dropped by 2% after Mass Effect 3, imagine that.

You're saying we need trailers and adds with femShep or femInq because apperantly the average gamer isn't smart enough to find the 'female' option in the character creation menu on his/her own? Is that what you're saying?

What?

Think about what you said. Just think. I know it's hard, but you should try it.

Ignoring the attempt at insulting my intellect I still don't see what is wrong with my point. How is marketing a female main character and possibly attracting more customers hurting anyone?

Alright, I'll spell it out.

Marketing exists to make money. They will take whatever marketing approach they think will make the most money. It is not an excuse. It is the one and only cause and priority. The fact that you think marketing is about equality and not about making money makes you rather ignorant when it comes to.. life.

The dudebros or old boys club or whatever you want to call them are the ones that have given them money and continued to do so. As such, EA will continue to focus on them with marketing, and will NOT try a marketing technique that may drive them away. It would be total idiocy to throw away proven customers for unproven ones. Your "rah rah social justice" sheninagins could-and have-done just that.

The whole social justice charade is just a little thing Bioware likes to do on the side. You should be content with the fact that you can choose the gender of the avatar. That's loads more then you get with so many other developers.

I dont know whether to be angry with you that you think so little of your fellow female gamers cjones, or pity you that you actually believe that garbage.

No, they aren't - it's just the whole male "intimidation" that makes them be less aware than they actually are.

If Femshep had over two games worth of exposure while MaleShep had next to little then the numbers will be reversed. That's why MaleShep is considered to be the canon shep because he had over two+ games to become a icon in most gamer's minds.
