I'm trying to trigger all of the random encounters I can but some just seem impossible to get. I've been through the game 4 times and I've never seen the axe in the stump. Never seen the templars stop me and ask me to pay them back for stealing from them even though I pickpocketed every templar in the Circle Tower. Same thing with the Dalish Elves. I stole from them and got yelled at by Varathorn but they never hunted me down. Never seen the one where you're attacked by shades.

Are some encounters just impossible to trigger or what? And have any of you seen these?

Thanks.

Were you cought stealing? (Failed?) I know that you must actually fail for some events/conversations to trigger.

What about that encounter with Jowan when you make him run?

I got the quest from the board but as much as I travel I don't meet him.

Yeah, I tried stealing from Greagor and he told me that I shouldnt be practicing petty theft or something like that. So, I figured he would chase me down later. And no, I still hadnt seen Jowan's either. Which chanter's board has that quest, by the way? I thought it was just a random encounter.

Word. It took me forever to get the quest because I kept turning him in to the circle tower. Then when I finally got it, I traveled all over the map trying to trigger the encounter, and no dice.

I just got some wierd encounter the other day.  I'm on my 3rd playthorugh and this was first time I ever saw it.

A meteor or something crashed which leads to a cutscene of 2 people saying they are gonna raise something.  Then you show up and grab some type of material from the meteor.  I think it was ore.  I don't know how or why that was triggered but it was the first time in 3 games that it happened.

Talk to the smithy at Soldier's Peak (assuming you've finished that quest).

Yeah, after you finish Soldier's peak, you'll eventually trigger that encounter.

By the way, the first thing I thought about when I saw that encounter was how Superman came to Earth. His aircraft left a crater in the ground and then he gets adopted by an older couple. (you know how the couple you see in the encounter say they dont know how a child survived and he has 5 fingers and 5 toes, lets adopt him!)

Try looking for Warden's Keep... quest is given in camp

The meteor encounter is triggered by traveling to honleath (that's the shale encounter).

It isn't directly tied to Soldier's Peak. Soldier's Peak just happens to be the only place where you can eventually use the meteor metal.

But I do not have the Warden's Keep content.
The questgiver is in camp but I never purchased that content.

I believe you are more likely to trigger random encounters w/ longer trips. Going from Denerin on the East to the mountains on the far West are more likley to generate events rather than going to a town next door.

Okay... please enlighten Me...

I have never heard of a random encounter with Jowan - or a Chanter's Board quest involving him.

Neither has the wiki, it seems.

Can someone explain this? Outside of the Magi Origin and Redcliffe I am sure he has no role to play...

@ Lakmoots:
Quoted from wiki cheats because I don't feel like looking it up in my prima game guide:

Begin: Visit a Chanter's Board after completing the "Arl of Redcliffe" and "Urn of Sacred Ashes" main quests
Description: If you freed Jowan during the raid of Castle Redcliffe, you'll find him later at a Random Encounter on the world map. When you meet up with him, kill the darkspawn around him, then decide if Jowan should live or die. Your choice!

But again, I've gotten the quest from the chanter's board, but haven't been able to get the random encounter.

Thanks, Princess!

Wow... I had no idea... never seen it on a chantry board.

Do you mean that when you encounter him in Redcliffe dungeon you have to tell him to run away - as in, not have him come back during the Arl's quest?

I always have him there with Isolde and Teagin, so... does this mean it only appears if you scare him off after letting him out?

Yes. Exactly this. And he won't leave if you're a mage, either. Since you're chums and all, I guess. Posted Image

I never located Jowan either.  Maybe it's something meant for the expansion along with all the other demons you let free but cause no direct change in the game.

You ever think it's a conspiracy? Like Axameter doesn't exist. Because I've never found the encounter....nah, I'm just being paranoid.

Axameter has only triggered naturally once in 5 complete run-throughs of the game. I also once triggered it using the debug mode (which is also how I found out about Jowan). However, at least using debug, Jowan appears on a *marked location* north of the Brecilian Forest, so it's possible the quest is naturally just broken. He doesn't seem to be a random travel encounter.

Axameter seems to be the rarest of all the encounters. That stated, having the Crater trigger as part of The Stone Prisoner when you can only use it in Warden's keep is a rather tricky way of getting you to buy both =P. Though, its possible it might be in the vanilla game as a really rare encounter anyway.
