And I'll repeat; it's just naff, or lame if you prefer.

If they are crazy people then it's ok imo. Normal people shouldn't do that though.

Well yeah, sort of like real life. The religious nuts living in their own little world and then there's the normal people.

Oh boy....
While I agree with Bill Nye, lets avoid that ugly can of worms on BSN shall we?

Count the number of squad mates you can bring in the suicide mission in ME 2. It's twelve. (Yes I know about that "other" squadmate, but you can bring a maximum of 12 squadmates).

sci fi has never been shy about doing religious symbolism and allegory. Mass Effect is no different. It's been quite apparent to me since ME1. But not many people picked up on it or saw it the same way. Perspective and all that jazz....Abraham_uk wrote...
"The Shepard" is supposed to be a reference to the parable of "The Good Shepherd" I think.

Commander Shepard type curses. Looking forward to it.
"Shepard willing"
"Good Shepard"
"By the Shepard"
"Oh Shepard"
"What in Shepard's name are you doing?"
"Oh my Shepard"
"Shepard!"

Also, the Reaper War might be the new Bible or something. I wonder if this is what taking a quote from it would look like:
Saint Garrus Vakarian 19:12-27
"And Shepard said 'I SHOULD GO'..."

Far into the future, Shepard will become the Avatar of heroism. As Wrex said "to every Krogan born from this day, the name Shepard will mean hero!"
It will not be called heroism anymore, it will be known as Shepardsim.

I think Shepardism could be interesting if Mass Effect 4 is set hundreds of years after Mass Effect 3.
You can explain away the controversial endings with "alternate takes on the Shepard legend".
Could be interesting seeing what people's beliefs regarding "The Shepard" are.
Heck that ending scene in Mass Effect 3 supports the idea of Shepard being a legend as opposed to a religious figure. More of a King Arthur or Robin Hood rather than a Jesus fugure.
So Shepardism could just represent people's search to find out what really happened during the Reaper War. Perhaps when we played the trilogy we were playing one person's interpretation of what might have happened rather than what really happened.
What of The Reapers? Wouldn't it be interesting to find out that what people what the Reapers were didn't entirely reflect reality. Perhaps The Reapers were really myth that humans created to justify genocide. That little discussion between Haley Joel Osment and Buzz Aldrin raises interesting questions.
Did it really happen? What really happened?
Questions that could be posed by Mass Effect 4.

hmm I sort of feel the same about that Jesus guy. But hey, who am I to say every Christian is wrong?thehomeworld wrote...
Yes that phrase THE Shepard is more then ridiculous shep isn't a god stop trying to make him/her into one its offensive that phrase should die with ME3. I don't want anyone referring to or implying shep as a god or demigod did he do something amazing saving the galaxy sure but that doesn't give you god titleship it gives you historical figure status.

Shepard always felt so human, to me. Not in the sense that I thought they could be real, but just very modest and certainly not super powered, messianic, or even really heroic. This strips them of that valuable part of their character.
And I'll repeat; it's just naff, or lame if you prefer.
Tell that to the half of all Shepards that are Biotics.
I mean, tearing across a battlefield by creating and controlling mass effect fields with your mind certainly seems superpowered to me.

Historical figures get nicknames. Vlad III Dracula was the Impaler, so Shepard can be the Shepherd without it being a religious thing. Then again, saving the galaxy may not make you a god, but it probably does get you canonized as a saint (and equivalents) in more than a few religions.thehomeworld wrote...

For engineer Shepards, I imagine a reaction akin to this if someone comes across The Shepard's omni-tool.EnerPrime wrote...

There are enough counterfeit fingerbones being peddled in the wards to assemble ten The Shepards!

Just imagine a Hanar and a Geth arguing about the shepard and the significance of Shepards followers. The hanar will point out the significance of the Enkindler "Javik" while the Geth would point out the importance of Legion who gave birth to the new Geth.Lord Aesir wrote...

All of this while C-sec is trying to figure out how to deal with disturbance without creating a riot or other repercussions.
