Or, best yet, on its own as an equal. Would you have an actual problem with this?

And of it self? Why would i? Elves are a dying breed, no real threat to humanity if they even quadruple their numbers in the next few generations.

My issue with it is that it will not happen in any realistic in universe setting with out a major shift in the dynamics of Thedas.

Then we should have that shift. And, if possible, come up with some magical way to bolster elven genetics so that their own genes dominate those of other races, rather than the other way around, so all half-bred children will be elves themselves. This should even the odds some.

Yeah Bioware doesn't work in that fashion most of the time.

They enjoy the oppressed elves trope just look at all of their fantasy games.

The Orlesian Empire was created by Kordillus Drakon to create an empire under worship of the Maker, and he established the Chantry from the Cult of the Maker that he followed. The Chantry of Andraste is so intertwined with Orlais that Loghain and Maric discussed dissolving it. I'm not certain what your point is in trying to insinuate that the two are completely distinct from one another when the history of Thedas proves otherwise, or even that the idea that templars would be stationed in an Orlesian town is somehow implausible.

Just because the Vatican is situated in Italy, that doesn't make the church and the italian state one and only being. Regardless of how close the Divine and the Emperor have worked in the past, that doesn't change the fact they are two completely distinct groups with different roles, jurisdiction, personnel, borders, etc and thus, an attack by Templars would not be an attack by the orlesian state.

If the elves attacked an orlesian town because Templars troops happened to be there, that would make them:

1-Stupid for picking a fight with both orlesian and Chantry armies.

2-Despicable for attacking innocent humans because they can't be bothered to make distinction between them.

3-The instigators of the Orlais-Dales war.

Which is all well and good, but there's no point in putting it in if you can't fight it.

Considering how the non-noble Hero of Ferelden's boons failed, I'm not inclined to disagree with the assertion that a royal boon isn't much to put stock in.

We don't know exactly what caused the Dalish boon to fail. But even if humans bore 100% of the blame (which I doubt), if the elves had tried to gain the same land by force they would have failed. In fact every time elves have used force to get what they want from humanity it has resulted in catastrophe. And since the Fall of Arlathan, all the greatest successes for the Elvhen have been the result of human generosity. The fact that the Dales existed at all is because it was a gift from Andraste and Maferath.

Which means the time is very ripe for this to change in a big way.

The framing of The Masked Empire is making me strongly suspect that Gaspard will be in the Loghain tier of villainy.

You think Celene might support an autonomous elven state if it meant she could keep her throne?

I think Celene would support an autonomous darkspawn state if it meant she could keep her throne, so yes.

Reason number four why she shouldn't even sit on it.

Eh. The topic was: why didn't they kill every mage from birth, it's unrealistic!

That's so ridiculous it was bound to fall apart sooner or later. I'm just surprised it was later.

Gaspard, it sounds to me like, would be willing to do that even if he didn't get the throne, as long as he was able to bring his rival down with him.

It could have been a legitimate discussion on how to best deal with the psyker mage dilemma.

The point being that Celene will still probably be better.
