What music do you listen to? Genres or specific bands, and what do you enjoy jamming to while playing your favorite games.
Favorite bands at the moment - August Burns Red, iwrestledabearonce, All Shall Perish, and Protest the Hero
those are also the bands I love playing games too.

I love playing games to Black Sabbath but for a RPG or something similar I just listen to the in game music.

If the games soundtrack is good then I won't put anything on top of it. Otherwise I just listen to general Indie which includes:

Kasabian

Glasvegas

Bombay Bicycle Club

British Sea Power

etc.

Depends on the situation. If it's a game like Final Fantasy, I'll listen to its music, but for more violent games, I like to listen to Japanese metal. Awesome stuff.

I don't play music other than the soundtrack. Putting anything else on would break immersion for me.

I can only replay a game so many times personally. So I never play music when playing solitary games either. It breaks the immersion for me as well. In MP games though I'll listen to music often. Usually whatever, lately it's been Ulrich Schnauss, Massive Attack, and Koop.

It depends when I am playing CoD4 on my 360 I definitely prefer to listen to music whatever it may be but in RPGs I always listen to the games actual music

Well, I usually don't replay games for X number of times in a row. Doing so would get boring fast. I notice that when I game, especially if it's an RPG's OC, I play it once and leave it for about a year and come back (effectively making sure that the next experience is a 'new' one all over again). Of course, for modules associated with the game (like NWN, NWN2 and DA:O ) have come to expect that at least most of them would have their own custom soundtracks to spice up the atmosphere.

On the other hand, I used to change the background music for Sims 2 sometimes. But that was easier to justify since I played Sims 2 so many times until I was bored of the jingly little themes, and it was a game about real life, after all. Plus there were some amazing tunes I couldn't pass up; I once used Paul McCartney's "Peace In The Neighborhood" for the background song. And it also made sense that some of my more colorful Sim characters would love to have things like Tupac's "Changes" or Aerosmith's "Dream On", or even Avril Lavigne playing on their in-game household radio. :)

The only games I play music with while playing are arcade style games like Geometry Wars and the like, or the Sims.

While playing arcade games, I usually go with the mellow psyche rock like 10 Years, if I want something heavier maybe Chevelle.

With the Sims I love really mellow stuff like Lisa Hannigan, Loreena McKennitt, or Anna Nalick and Bonnie McKee.

Sadly, my Sims are more inclined to be wannabe rappers or rock stars. I get a kick out of imaging Sims happily rebelling against the suburban idyllism and conformity that Sim-world represents, and in the true tradition of anarchic Sim-dom what sane Sim wouldn't want to find a reason to frazzle the parents, irritate the neighbors, etc etc? Now that's real roleplaying. ^_^

The soundtrack. I rely heavily upon in game music as an indication of current status. Elsewise, I have the hots for Hans Zimmer.

Ha, my Sims are almost all recluses. My girl sits on her computer writing novels while her wife makes airplane noises in front of the mirror. The mellower, the better. =]

Unless I can't stand the in-game music, I usually don't listen to my own music while I'm playing games.

If I do, though... well, I like metal, especially power metal. Helloween, Blind Guardian, Dio, Judas Priest, Gamma Ray, Rainbow, Demons & Wizards, Domine, Blue Oyster Cult, Iron Maiden, Rhapsody of Fire, Black Sabbath (usually Black Sabbath with Dio), that kind of thing. Sometimes Megadeth, or Queen, or Alice Cooper, or Hawkwind. What exactly depends on the character I'm playing.

My tastes span across most genres you could think of, but I don't really listen to anything but the intended soundtrack while playing.

I just listen to the in-game soundtrack. If I can't stand it I'll just turn off the music and play musicless.

The only music I'd play while playing a game like this, is music that is also atmospheric

post rock stuff like Godspeed You! Black Emperor, do make say think, mono, mogwai...but for the most part the game music is fine for me

unless I'm doing some real boring tasks

I often prefer the in-game soundtrack. Otherwise there's mostly death metal in my playlist. Origin, Nile, Gorguts.. that stuff.

I'm such a girl lol. For DAO I listened to Clint Mancell(sp?)'s The Fountain soundtrack. Kinda darkly scary and simple and sad. Apocalyptic IMO. Fit the mood to the game really well for me. Not hardcore badasness. But eerie and blighty.

Someone please mod DA:O so that after the Dalish elf quest, Leliana sings 'Love Machine' by WASP.
