I don't remember if you can change your heavy weapon in between the Long Walk and the Final Assault. Do you get to change your weapons when you select the squad for the Final Assault?

Yes to both. I had the cain that I used on the scion during the walk and then switched to the grenade launcher to fight the reaper.

Yes and importantly it refills your heavy weapon ammo.

How did that Cain work out on the Scion? I just used the Cain on the two heavy mechs in Garrus's mission (level 25, insanity) and it took down their shields and half their armor. I was hoping for a one shot kill.

It worked great. What I did is have it at the ready and when Samara says we have a big fight(or something similiar), I pointed the cain at the ground just in front of the scion. Not only did it kill it but killed a few husks as well making it easier to kill the rest of the husks.cap and gown wrote...

I don't believe I ever used the cain on the two mechs. On his loyalty mission, I bring Miranda and with the two of them, they take down the shields with overload and then I use the grenade launcher to finish them off.

If you have a problem with the YMIR's at the end of Garrus's mission, what you can do is hit them with a projectile squad power as soon as you see them being brought in overhead. To do it you basically just hit the command hud when you see them, then cue up something like CS from Garrus on one, and then whatever else you have on the other. When you unpause, they get hit, and if timed right fall to oblivion. If not they fall further back, but may not attack.

Just a note on my own choice here.
I was actually more worried about the husk horde than the scion since I could keep the Scion distracted with a drone. If I was playing on veteran difficulty and Jack was doing the bubble there would be no problem: just use Samara and Thane with Throw Field. But with armored husks you need to strip before physics attacks work and Mordin's cool down (and even engineer Shepard's) is too long for that many husks. (Also, Jack was busy getting herself killed escorting the crew, so Samara was tasked with bubble duty.) So I read the wiki's suggestion and went with the Arc Projector. I just got out of the Scion's LoS and zapped away until almost all the husks were gone. After than, dealing with the Scion was easy: just distract it with a drone and let loose with the Viper and power attacks.
Also, based on my experience on the Collector Ship, I decided to go with Kasumi for both the Long Walk and the Final Assualt. Her Flashbang was invaluable for shutting down Harbi, although the drawback was the the fight against the Human Reaper went on much longer than when I use Thane, Miri, and/or Samara. This time it was only Samara and myself using our powers on the Reaper while Kasumi's flashbang and shadow strike were reserved for the ground troops. (Without adrenaline rush I am not going to shoot that thing. It would just be a waste of ammo since I would miss more than I hit.)

Husks are totally harmless by themselves, all you have to do is strafe around them in circles, but if you want to kill them fast pull as many as you can and use the Blackstorm it snuffs out all of them shielded or not.
A scions shockwave can be interrupted with powers, it takes a little practice but you can just run up to one and keep it locked down while shooting it. Reaper baby has a weak point in the stomach thats easier to hit then the eyes and there are recharging ammo pickups on several platforms.
