So what was the point of the Drell? Even Thane's writer said, if an mmorpg of ME were to happen, no Drell should be playable because they are so little in number and going extinct.

They're in because the setting established that there are lots of races in Citadel space besides the major races with colonies, fleets, and embassies. If anything we should be seeing more NPCs from minor races, but obviously working up a bunch of one-shot alien models isn't a great use of dev time.

What's your ethnicity?

I definitely think we need some kind of quota system, otherwise it's a clear indication of the triumph of the patriarchy.

Did I do it right?

This is a bit daft, isn't it.

Chuck Palahniuk is racist because the Narrator envisioned the male ideal as white.

Well, looking at the human squadmates/Normandy characters:

Kaidan: ?
Ashley: White
Anderson: Black
Joker: White
Kasumi: Japanese
Zaeed: White
Jacob: Black
Miranda: White
Jack: White
Vega: Hispanic
Cortez: Hispanic

Kaidan is South American :), Brazilian. and Cortez is too dark to just be Hispanic. most likely mixed.

Jack is based off a mixed White/Mexican/Persian model (if the model in question is actually the real face. Candice Neil). That said, she has tats like a Yakuza chick :D

A lot of humans are supposed to be mixed though, in Mass Effect. Anderson is described in the books is described as possibly having Native American. Not just black.

A much better question is how are Asian and Black ethnicities, and if you are making them ethnicities, how weren't you represented, sense there are really only three going by that basis?

So why is Ashley white? Is this like *Bethesda's all of the kids of black people are white?

*(Skyrim reference to Redguard kids being white and not black like their parents.)

I'm not sure she is exclusively white. Someone told me that the writer meant for her to be part hispanic or something. Like I said above, I think a lot of humans in ME are supposed to be mixed. Sounds logical to me. I mean, I'm part Asian and White. I can imagine 200 years from now, a lot of people will be mutts like me. A lot are already, I guess

Thane serves an additional purpose beyond being a loveinterest for femsheps. Thane is an example of a species going extinct due to their own inability to control their population growth. The Krogans and the Salarians are exploring this concept aswell.

1. Ashley's hispanic
2. The Redguard children have darker skin. What are you referencing? Those are bugs in the script, they normally have darker skin.
3. Finally, voices aren't bound by race. What an awful thing to even joke about.

I can't see her being Hispanic. I could see her being African American as she does sound like a black person, just doesn't look like one.

You also got Udina, lots of the characters you meet in the game are none Euro or non US. It also seems a lot of them are mixed, making it tricky to determine such things, it's also one of those things we're told in the Codex. Since people travel a lot they mix.

I hope the writers work more on giving us interesting people that make sense as companions given our occupation or what the story is.
At first when I heard about the crew for ME2 I was seriously wondering what could possibly make those people work together.
Also, most of them arn't the kind of people to do this "Shepard" suicide crazy mission.

In the end I did enjoy them as a team, as for Jacob, I'm not sure what he was doing there.
He did his thing though, but I'm not sure how he fit the story. I guess he was supposed to be one of those non-psychotic people you pickup, to balance out the Crazy ones?

One of TIM's atempts to slowly boil Shepard alive and get used to working with an unusual crew.

I think it's pretty realistic to think that in a few hundred years many, if not most, people will be racially "mixed" (I hate that term because it sounds like dog breeds, personally). I actually think that the ME team did a pretty good job of including people of many racial backgrounds. Kaidan, Jacob, Vega, Traynor, and Cortez were all squadmates or very prominent crew members who clearly weren't white. Anderson, arguably the most important human after Shepard, was not white. Udina was not white. In fact, the only prominent (either major npc's or crew members) characters who seemed white were Chakwas, Joker, Miranda, Adams, and Kelly.

The one thing that I really want to see and haven't yet is a black female squadmate. That's a pretty weak demographic for Bioware. I think that Dynaheir (BG1) and now Vivienne (DA: I) are the only ones. I'm not counting the SWTOR gals (like Raina or Jaessa) because you can change their race with a customization kit.

Sidenote: I had NO idea that Kimberly Brooks was black until I read this thread. It made me go look her up on imdb and found out that she actually voiced a soldier in XCOM, which is funny because I've always thought of that voice as "the one that sounds like Ashley". Funny.

Ashley is clearly Hispanic. However, that is technically an "ethnicity" rather than a race; someone who is Hispanic can be white or black. Maybe even Asian. If you filled out the 2010 census you will have noticed this.  It didn't make sense to me at first, but Wikipedia can explain.

Ashley would be White-Hispanic, but I think she might be mixed race Black/White and Hispanic.

Make them interesting (unlike Jacob) and put them on the box cover as well. Maybe the protagonist can be Asian or Black on default as well.

Yeah, he had his element zero exposure in Singapore.
I don't know why he gets a peruvian wine in ME3.
