You don't need to be a fan to do something properly. Zur is a good composer and he doesn't have to be a DA or videogame fan to write a soundtrack.GreyPouponWarden wrote...
I've really loved Inon Zurs stuff over the years, he has composed some of my favorite video games, Origins being near the top. But I've read interviews with him, and he doesn't seem to be very passionate about video games themselves and doesn't play them. For this reason a new music direction might be interesting IMO
Will Inon Zur and Aubrey Ashburn return to compose the soundtrack for DA:I?

i agree, which is why I prefaced with saying how much I've loved his work. I just think a new music direction might be interesting, particularly if the composer is as passionate as us in terms of the games.

Been listening to his work. Not impressed with it tbh. Sucks we're losing Zur.
Some of Zur's themes were enjoyable such as Qunari on the Rise, Mage Pride and the main theme for DA:O, but for me, most of the music in both Dragon Age games wasn't particularly inspiring and generally just felt like background music- many people probably don't have an issue with this but I enjoy immersing myself in a game's soundtrack.
He's better than most videogame composers for sure, but not right at the top IMO.

You know I really worded my post in title wrong. I was talking about my hopes on Inon Zur and Audrey Ashburn coming back, when really I should've just been mentioning Audrey. Because Inon's best work in the Dragon Age franchise involved her.Bad King wrote...

Not sure if you are familiar with Crysis, but, a fun fact, the voice actor of Prophet, a 'major' character in all three Crysis games, openly admitted that he wasn't a gamer at all and had, despite having voiced Prophet in all three games, not once actually played a Crysis game, so yeah, I'll agree with Star Fury on that you really don't need to be a fan to be able to do it right.
That's not to say a fresh face composer wise wouldn't be interesting.
On a more general note, I cannot fathom how people can call soundtracks like the main theme/party camp theme, I am the One or a track like Leliana's song ''forgettable''.

Truth be told, I wasn't a huge fan of the Dragon Age music thus far. I didn't dislike it, per se, but it never really excited me--it was just kind of there.
This is exactly how I felt about it.
I mean, DAII had some really good tracks, but Origins was pretty bland. Yeah, Leliana's Song was good, but even the main theme didn't do much for me (especially in comparison to how great the DAII main theme is)

Alright I have to start disagreeing with the people calling Origins Soundtrack bland. It had some pretty good tracks on there. I Am The One and Leliana's Song to start with, but the theme that plays during the Battle of Ostigar was good too. Then there's the Darkspawn theme and the music that plays during the Epilogue. The Tavern music was pretty relaxing as well.
Inon did a good job, give some credit.

This. The music in DA is not bad at all, but none of it really stood out to me.

A lot of people don't realise how important is in as game it probably is the most affective device to get us to let down our walls and "suspend our disbelief" because it instantly sets a mood, many times with an emotional kick, and draws us into the game world.
Every now and then I will exit out of DA2 or DAO on my PS3 while I am on typing on my laptop and in the background when the stand by music plays I immediately get this emotional surge that takes me out of the mundane into the fantastic. It just hits me like a ton of bricks.
I really think DA owns a lot of their success to how well they have done their music. There are places you can save a bit of money here and there but the music is something that should always get is due. Can you imagine the Star Wars or Harry Potter or LOTR films with a cheesy, cheap soundtrack? Its almost unthinkable.
Turn the lights low, turn the telly off, close your eyes and listen to this....its moving and DAI deserves nothing less.

I had this pretty much every time I was in the party camp.

Can someone provide me examples of "good" tracks from DA2 soundtrack as opposed to "bland" DAO one?
I have some links in my OP of tracks from DA2 I thought were pretty good, but aside from one of them, they don't seem to have made it in the actual game.

That said, pretty sure he didn't do anything for ME3. If he did, could someone direct me to which tracks? ME3 has an amazing OST.
