I havent posted here since Citadel DLC. I had Mass effect out of my head the whole time really, than i read something about the next Mass effect and i started to think, I just replayed all 3 and all DLC over a couple of weeks. My dislike for the ending has greatly recuded, its more like a "meh" to me now and it doesent take away from everything else it had. It got me thinking when stuff like Man of steel rubs me off as well, but in another way.

Man of steel is just boring, it has no soul, no humor or anything on top of the stupidity of many plot devices. The only joke is made at the end of the story, exactly when time wasent for jokes anymore. What i watched was a boring action movie that took itself super seriously in a plot that was forced in so many way and somehow decided it should only not be serious at the ending. It tried too hard to copy The dark knight or Batman begin which are good, but overrated movies but very good nonetheless, they took themselves seriously and yet still had some heart in it, some humour, some purpose and didnt end anti-climaticly with jokes that did not match the rest of the movie.

Now unto my feeling about mass effect complete trilogy, it was good, even the 3rd. The story never took itself more serious than it needed to be, even in the 3rd one. The humour, the light heart, the atmosphere where still present in all 3 games, the ending wasent that far out of place. Yes it was odd and a down grade considering some of the more brilliant moments in the game, but it wasent pure trash, it wasent "totally" out of place. It could have been better, which is not all that wrong or bad.

My old score for ME3 was like a 7 and now with a different state of mind, id say a fairer score from me would be a 8.5. The whole package of the story, some moment of brilliance, strong music, strong scenary, stellar voice acting and until the ending, solid story telling.

Mabye its the kids that grew in the 80s in me, but i need to remind people that sometimes things can be good without being complicated in a story. A good story is just good. Omega DLC and Citadel DLC were both very enjoyable for that very reason, story wise. Its pretty simple stuff, yet done well enough like a good 80s action movie. Theres always room for simple well done story, im hoping this is the way the Next Mass Effect goes. Play to your strong suit bioware, have brilliant moments, have a good blend of humour and serious moments. You might not get a preorder out of me anytime soon, but if you show me you can still deliver this, i might reconsider.

This is how I've felt since the EC, to be honest.

Edit: That's not entirely true. Killing the geth/EDI will always continue to be a problem for Paragons who believe in autonomous co-existence and pick Destroy for that reason, having made Peace on Rannoch. Picking Destroy almost tautologically takes away from Rannoch.

Now unto my feeling about mass effect complete trilogy, it was good, even the 3rd.

I'd reverse that and say all 3 games are great, even the first. I find myself pointing out ME1's flaws often on these boards, but not really because I think it's a bad game, more because I don't think it gets the same level of scrutiny ME3 does.

Pretty much agree on Mass Effect 1 CronoDragoon regarding the flaws it has.

I never hated the series though, it's importance to gaming is pretty much what were going to see in the coming years, and how BioWare continues it. Like it or not, Mass Effect is pretty huge now.

Still absolutely disgusted with how things turned out. It flushed most of what was great about the series down the toilet to make an artistic statement. My Shepard became Mac Walter's Shepard, who had to do something awful to the galaxy in order to "save" it.

And I grew up in the 80's too.

I never hated Mass Effect 3, though I did go through a couple weeks of hating the ending...

Mass Effect is still my favorite trilogy.

My personal favorite was ME2, despite it having the weakest plot of the 3. Well more like the most useless plot of the 3, but than again it never stopped Empire strikes back from being the best Star wars and its plot was the most useless of them all. The only purpose of the whole story was to find out Luke was vaders son. The whole purpose of ME2, was plot exposition and more new characters, which it did well.

The first mass effect has story flaws that most good story has, it has the worse gameplay by far. Id say out of the 3 games, the first is the most balanced in that i cant point to a particular story element that even if non sensical made the story worse for me.

Thats a shorter way to put my feeling, but yes. It could've been better. It could've been worse too, so really im left indifferent now that my rage is not boiling anymore. It used to sap the rest of the game universe from my taste, but it stopped doing so.

I've never hated it either. I was a bit disappointed with some of the mechanics, but I'm one of the (very small) minority that actually likes ME 3 better than ME 2. For me, it goes ME > ME 3 > ME 2, which was way too "dudebro" for my liking. I wasn't thrilled with the original ending, but the EC made it much better and the DLC's were all great. Even Citadel, which was a bit twee a times.

Try going straight from ME2 to ME3 with no pause. If anything the flaws become more glaring, not less. Though you do also appreciate the gameplay improvements more.

ME3's failures aren't in the ending alone. The ending just eclipsed them.

I never hated it in the first place. It's my least favorite of the three, but it never reached hate status. The game, ending included, ranges around 8.5-9 in my book. It's a great game, but for reasons near opposite the original.

Hate is a strong word, and the topic implies everyone felt that way. I enjoyed it. Hell, I played through it around 5-6 times. Regardless of the questionability of Gaming Journalism to some, it did get quite a few perfect/superb scores, so it couldn't have been a monstrosity to everyone.

So ME1 was the return of Christ in video game form then?

I don't really feel anything for mass effect 3 anymore. I enjoy playing parts of it, and roll my eyes at the parts I don't, and that's the long and short of it.

Then again, I never understood how someone could get uber disappointed at them to the point of swearing off all bioware games. Guess that's the whole "emotional investment" thing I don't feel for stuff instead of people just enjoying the games as games.

Well, I never hated ME3...so I guess I can't really answer that question, but I will anyway! :P No, I do not hate Mass Effect 3. It's not the best game I've ever played, but far far from the worst and I quite enjoyed/enjoy it immensely :)

ME3 is a good game as far it being a TPS is concerned. Of course, it's a dud when it comes to story and choices but anyone who's played ME1 and especially 2 should've known not to expect anything otherwise.

Same can be said for ME1 > ME2, if not more so.

Metaphorically, yes. No one at that point had really done that sort of combat system before - I believe one developer described it as "Fallout 3 Meets Rainbox Six Vegas", and it was very refreshing to me. It looked fantastic as an early Xbox 360 game and the planetary exploration was very memorable. It had relatively realistic writing/dialogue(though the cheeseball will always be there), compared to the RPGs I'd played in the past.

I remember November 20, 2007 as a very special day indeed.

Mass Effect 3 had all the combat slicked up(Refined Leveling System, Verticality in level design, etc.), but the new characters were arguably the worst to be added from the trilogy. Eve was a great character, but not quite recruitable. The Story, until the infamous ending, was merely a means to an end of fighting in crazy scenarios and blasting everything in sight.

To their credit, certain mission choices like Rannoch/Tuchanka had strong emotional resonance, and the game had far better(though imbalanced) Choice & Consequence than ME2.

Disappointment I guess. It's like that cousin you have a decent enough time with hanging out with at family reunions but you would never otherwise talk to. ME3 is a fun enough game and it does contain some of my favorite moments of the trilogy, most of them being DLC, but at this point I only play through because it's part of the trilogy.

Disappointed, bitter apathy more like. It has its great moments, but by and large, its an incarnate realization of the decline of BioWare in general.

I never hated it. It was my first ME game. So obviously I liked it enough that I went off and bought the other two. Now if I had started with ME1 I would have dropped the series right then.

ME3, was the first one I played, and my general opinion was "meh". Wen't and played the first two (both "meh"), came back and was still "meh"

The series in general is about a mixed bag of good and pants-on-head retarded

This is obviously assuming I had any beef with ME3 to begin with.

Whilst I was left a bit underwhelmed with the endings (and the extended ones too), I am not petty or shortminded enough to instantly forget that the entirety of the remaining game, which amounts to pretty much 99% of the content I paid for, was more than satisfying.

The journey counts equally, if not more than its mere destination and I had a great deal of fun throughout playing ME3.

If there was a game in the ME series thus far where I could honestly say I was not satisfied, then it would be ME2 with its patchwork storyline and the unbelievable hype for what turned out to be a fluke named the "Suicide Mission", but even there, hate is nowhere near adequate to describe my opinion.

Frankly, the word "hate" is flung around a bit too liberally by most people.
