It's not so much an individual's opinion changing as the population of those who choose to make their voice heard changing. You disliked aspects of ME3 because they changed from ME2. Someone who liked certain aspects of ME3 and felt no need to post about it will come post if they dislike something about ME4. That doesn't mean anyone's opinion means less now because the opinion of the internet forums as an entity shifts. It's just an observation about how time can change general consensus on this sort of thing.
I think it's different issue with character attachments. You won't see anyone who was a diehard fan of ME1's characters change much on what happened in ME2. They still voice the same complaints about character treatment to this day. And I understand them. I'm in the same boat now. And like me, it seems most of them still see the merits of ME2 game design wise (just like I do with ME3). Characters stir up something else though.

The character aspect is indeed unique because BioWare tried something unique with a recurring cast across 3 games. There's a certain screentime expectation there that doesn't exist for other BioWare games or series. But that's obviously over now that the original ME trilogy has concluded. I think the expection of most people is that their favorite characters from the original trilogy won't return for MENext.

I don't either, and yet it happens, and happened again with ME3. When ME4 is released, you'll start seeing threads about how much better ME3 did X. It seems unlikely now, but it always does. That's because what you don't hear now is the voice of those content with ME3. Therefore when the next game does something different that they don't like, they'll pop in to post their opinion about it. I have no doubt this will happen with Inquisition as well, where DA2 will suddenly start seeing more love than it did during the entirety of its relevance.
isn't comparing the condemnation of DAO with that of ME3 kinda like comparing a pebble and a boulder?

I already addressed this on the previous page. The only anomaly was ME3's endings. Without those it's pretty darn similar. What you actually saw when ME3 was released was an abnormal amount of praise for ME3, usually because it was coupled with "and then the endings happened."

Well, ME2 is certainly my least favorite game of the trilogy based on the fact that alot of my favorite aspects from ME1 were completely absent. In fact, ME2 made me have to reimagine what I thought of when I heard the words "Mass Effect", because it was a completely different game/animal/breed. It was sequel in name and characters only. Everything else (gameplay, narrative, mechanics) was a reboot.
But you do like ME3's gameplay, right? You seem like a big fan of the game in general.. And a lot of that is just an improvement of ME2. I think they finally found their stride in ME3's combat. I hope they stick with the basic feel it has now.
They need bring back exploration though. Scanning isn't cool. And the type of people who dismiss exploration need to be ignored.

Ah hater cycles, this pattern has repeated itself more times than one can fathom. It has happened and will continue to happen in gaming. A game franchise will advance, evolve, and at the apex of it's glory the fanbase will turn on it. Mass Effect is not the first franchise to fall victim to this cycle nor will it be the last.

They need to get rid of rolling though. I just can't take it seriously whatsoever. Quick movements in combat should be based off of manipulating mass effect fields, since every piece of armour has them.StreetMagic wrote...

Is that what some of those Turians and stuff are doing in multiplayer? The levitating ones, I mean.

Oh.. Well, some classes can strafe and roll by using some minor propulsion apparatus on their suits. Some just use biotics (err.. I think my Justicar does a little floating animation).

Though from what I've seen in multiplayer, the Turian Saboteur's jetpack is awesome. If you're going to have unrealistic movements across the battlefield, jetpack >>>>>>>>>> rolling.

I like ME3's "combat" gameplay. I think they've found their stride in ME3 as far as that aspect goes. But gameplay comprises of many things other than combat. And fyi, I've always stated that ME1 is it's own standalone beast. I've also always stood by the fact that ME3 is a true sequel to ME2. Whereas ME2 is not a true sequel to ME1. ME3 was 'ME2-evolved'. You cannot say the same about ME2 and ME1.
I always appreciate sarcasm.
They need bring back exploration though. Scanning isn't cool. And the type of people who dismiss exploration need to be ignored.
But ofcourse they should bring back exploration, if they don't want to be lumped in with the rest of the casual copy-cat linear shooters out there.
Scanning was never cool. It's probably one of the most universally disliked aspects of that game. In fact, I can find multiple people that actually liked ME3's ending......I can't find a single one (person, friend, website, review) that says Planet Scanning was "cool/good/enjoyable".
I don't ignore anybody that dismisses exploration. I do ask if they'd prefer Mass Effect to be a simple linear TPS. I actually ignore people that jump to conclusions/put words in people's mouths by saying that those who advocate for exploration are proposing that we want exactly what we got in ME1.
There was a thread a few weeks ago on the subject. It was just about bringing back exploration. But one idiot wanted to keep going on and on about " why would you want more mountains and nothingness and cookie-cutter hide-outs???". The idiot couldn't comprehend the fact that we wanted a new and improved form of exploration......not the exact flaws of ME1. Ofcourse, it only takes common sense to see what us "explorers" are asking for.....I have to imagine that the idiot was simply trolling...

ME 1 is a Peter Jackson film - Overall good but with some minor sillyness.
ME 2 is a Michael Bay film - Dumb and overall pointless but with some nice explosions.
ME 3 is M. Night Shyamalan....Nuff said.

The issue I see is a new and improved form of exploration draining resources elsewhere. What would you be willing to give up for a focus on exploration? That's an important question that will differ player to player. My answer is: nothing. (well, maybe fetch quests, but those budgets wouldn't be anywhere near substitutive)

If we have to worry about where and what is going to be draining resources, it'll never end well.
The next game needs what DAI seems to be getting. Time (and resources). It doesn't have to be a big either/or situation.
Not to mention that we as players shouldn't be worrying about their resources anyways. We should always expect the best. It's up to them if they can reach it.

Jetpack. Three turian character have it. One is really awesome with a havoc strike a lot like biotic charge. Then also have a melee that uses the jetpack to lift you then you pounce on them. It's mad fun!

Peter Jackson.....the King Kong/Hobbit films aren't living up to the standard of LotR. They're not even sniffing it. But he'll always be able to ride the greatness of his first endeavor.
Michael Bay......the only halfway decent films the guy ever made were Bad Boys (which is debatable) and The Island (which was a complete failure at the box office)
Shyamalan.....imo has the best standalone films out of all these guys. Sixth Sense (yes, it's never the same after the first time), Signs, Unbreakable. I could watch the latter 2 on any given night of the week.

One can hope. Maybe EA's just getting used to what Bioware's strong points are maybe. Like they were taking the FIFA approach for an RPG developer or something. You can't rush games like this.
