DLC characters aside, how?

After Horizon, pretty much everything is optional. Samara probably the most of the bunch. I think storywise, she serves as a good "middle ground" between Miranda and Jack though. It's interesting roleplaying wise... You get an Asari to bypass a spat between two humans. With only those two, it's a struggle between who's the better biotic (for the bubble scene). With Samara, you're declaring aliens are more reliable. But you don't have to.. She doesn't need to be there.

Until you recruit more people, the Derlict Reaper mission won't start. You still have to go recruit them.

Really? I've done loyalty missions (usually Miranda, Jack, Mordin, Grunt.. err.. maybe something else) and I get Collector Ship. You can do the Derelict Reaper right after that. Loyalty and Recruit I think "pass the time" in the same way. I'm pretty sure it works that way, but haven't tried it in a while. I do happen to recruit Tali often, so maybe that contributes. but I know I don't need to recruit Samara or Thane (or Legion).

You need eight characters ro trigger the Collector Ship mission.  Derelict eaper becomes available right after.

So if you have both Zaeed and Kasumi +Miranda and Jacob (since you start with them) + Garrus, Mordin, Jack, and Grunt (detanked) You can get the Collector Ship mission right away and pretty much skip the second half of the game.

That sounds familiar. Good to know though.

Those DLC characters flesh out the "human" centrism (if you feel like playing that) pretty well.

Yeah, I know. You made your point. I guess I've become used to having them I didn't notice how it affected things.

Blimey people really do hold me2 on a pedestal despite it's god awful inventory, skills system and the fact you are forced to be renegade or paragon or you can't do critical decisions (so you have to meta game).
Me3 improved on all of these.

And I don't hate the game, that's ridiculous, but I am aware of its issues and disappointed in quite a few aspects. I still enjoy playing it and the trilogy is one of my favourite games despite the different flaws across all 3 games.

ME2 doesn't have an inventory.

Or is that what you mean by awful?

Never hated it. Never regretted buying the Collector's Edition. I may have a little bias because it was (sadly, I never heard of the series before the pre-launch hype of 3 and I never really thought I'd want it until Clementj642's youtube review of it. And if that makes me any less of a fan, I'm sorry, I wish I could have been with the series since 2007) my first Mass Effect game, but the game was always fun for me, even if I prefer 2. I'd actually rank Mass Effect 1 and 3 as a tie. What 1 fails at, 3 succeeds at, and vice versa. I love 2 because it is basically a good middle ground.
Anyways, when I first bought the game, I almost gave up on the series at Grissom Academy because I was stuck at that one room and it really frustrated the crap out of me [I somehow didn't even realize there was a difficulty selector in the pause menu at the time]. However, I decided to get the other games because of an odd reason actually: the fact that I loved the way the collector's edition looked as well as the stuff that it came with (actually, it was the first thing that drew me to learning about the series when I first saw its announcement picture on IGN) and I was obsessed with collecting all three CE's. So, after spending $200 on the first and second one's collector's editions on eBay, I decided to play it from the start. And boom, my first complete playthrough of the trilogy and the first time I ever played the entirety of 3. This was before the EC of course, so yeah i hated the ending (albeit obviously not as much as people like Iakus who'd waited years to see the outcome <no offense, Iakus, you're just the only one I know for a fact has been with the series since the 2007 :)>). Now, I still really liked the game as a whole, and I loved the other two.

after Extended Cut, Leviathan, and Citadel (sorry, Omega, I like you, but you aren't in the same league), though, I love the game far more than at launch. I've actually played the trilogy 11 times since 3 came out and I actually have the trilogy on both the PS3 and the 360 with all the DLC on both. So yeah, even though sure I still think the ending is tolerable but dissapointing [even then, my complaints lie mainly in Priority Earth's mission and not the ending itself], as you can tell, I am not mad, I don't hate, and I am still addicted to Mass Effect in its entirety and I plan on getting the next one's Collector's Edition.

I was probably getting a little enthusiastic in some "which is the best game in the trilogy?" thread.  But I still love the original.  It is how I became an ME fan in the first place

I never hated Mass Effect 3. I think the end of it is incredibly bad, and that the EC does next to nothing to improve it, but there are many spectacular moments in the game.

I have never completed a second play-through of Mass Effect 3, however. I completed each of the first two several times, both genders, most classes. After seeing how it all ends, I just have no interest in replaying any of it.

Yeah, I'm pretty much over my hate over the ending.

Granted, it still sucks due to it's objective problems with genre, central conflict and narrative stuff. But I've already stated my case and I've pretty much chosen to ignore it and make up my own (or download MEHEM). The game itself is pretty good even with a few flaws (Kai Leng, Tali's face and the Mars Chase among them) and the overall series remains one of the best in gaming history.

This is how I felt all along. I was disappointed with the ending, without having to hyper-rationalize it. I did find that the ending had a certain impact that could be respected.

Reading OP's experience confirmed something I already knew and will hold on to when it comes to gaming: never play a game until all content is released.

I only bought ME trilogy last year after all stuff had been released. That certainly spared me all the trauma a lot of fans experienced with the third game and helped me to plan my choices in game to get the most out of it. I had a very positive experience with the whole package (10/10 as a matter of fact)

I never hated Mass Effect. I have all three games as well as all the DLC. There are things I like and dislike about each game. ME3 left me stunned the first time I played (the original ending). I was very happy that Bioware went to the effort to put out the extended cut.

I never hated Mass Effect 3. I simply hate that they end the game with a cliffhanger that shows my Shepard alive, and then Bioware is all "no moar Shepard". WTF?

Well, I still vehemently hate the ending, and that has managed to poison the rest of the series sufficiently to the point where I haven't played single player since the EC was released.

So while hate is indeed a strong word, I'm going to go with yes.

Maybe it's like the policy they take with the transition between ME1 > ME2 > ME3 (without imports). The policy of "FailShep". The worst possible playthroughs and story direction ever. Maybe that's the key behind Mac Walters' comparison of Shepard's fate to "Walter White's" death, or his statement that the "galaxy is a wasteland" after ME3. Maybe because he only moves forward with FailShep in mind. And it's low EMS destroy.

Maybe canon Shepard is a gibbering retard and the true hero will appear in the next game. :wizard:

Galaxy would be a wasteland no matter what, due to the Reaper invasion.

I never "hated" ME3, but I still dislike the ending and believe it ruins the continuity of the trilogy. I also believe the DLC did zip to fix these issues. To this point my stance on that has not changed, so I feel I can assuredly say it's never going to. I am also less than impressed with Bioware's pre-release lies, which is the biggest reason why my faith in Bioware has been lost. I'm willing to give ME4 a chance, but only after the game has been released and if reviews (by gamers not gaming websites) are positive.

I never hated ME3 but I hate the ending(s). There are really good parts to ME3 and really bad ones, but overall it's a good game. Not up to par, IMO, with ME or ME2, though.
