The early pre-alpha gameplay looks great.

The Dark Souls influence is clearly visible but it looks a lot more action-combat based. You are able to pull of combos for example and attacks don't drain all your stamina. However the Dark Souls influence comes clear when you see how blocking and rolling play a huge roll, timing attacks and equipment weight (as we see in the later half of the video, the heavy paladin knight is a lot slower in movement, attacks and dodging ability). You can also hold any weapon with both hands at the cost of putting your shield away (again, akin to the Souls games).

It's clearly not a Dark Souls clone and looks less challenging. For me it looks like Dark Souls and Dragon's Dogma combined especially with the huge bosses we're supposedly able to battle. The game is structured in a semi-open world fashion with three major classes (which can be mixed) from warrior, rogue to mage.

It releases this year in Autumn so it looks like The Witcher 3 and Inquisition have another contender to go up against.

The game also promises a deep story-line with choices and consequences drawing inspiration from The Witcher series in that you can end up going down different paths as the result of your choices.

Dark Souls 2, Pillars of Eternity, Divinity: Original Sin, The Witcher 3, Dragon Age: Inqusition, Shadows of Mordor and now this. (And I'm probably missing out a great deal of others). 2014 is clearly the year for RPG's.

I hope they don't show enemies ahead of time via quick cinematic in the retail version, but the fluidity of combat and give and take looks great. You can tell they borrowed heavily from Dark Souls. I'm going to play this on it's hardest setting

This game actually has me considering buying a PS4 this year. This really is the first next-gen exclusive I've been interested in along with The Witcher 3. However, this is literally the only next-gen game of this year that I'm interested in. TW3 comes out next year (which IMO might be a better time to purchase a next gen console). I mean, for now, the 360 will suffice with Dark Souls 2, Inquisition and Shadows of Mordor.
