 Back from hiatus and decided to go for the Lone Wolf achievement after reading about it here. Got to the end with 6 seconds until extraction and got a generous mound of swarmers on top of me. Carelessly used my last ops pack on the previous wave by getting sloppy so I just didn't make it. All other times I got to wave 9, but that's about it. 

I tried the Geth Soldier flanker build on Firebase Giant with Reapers and also Turian Ghost Infiltrator on Rio. Whichever I end up doing next, I'm definitely using my Drell Infiltrator, which I am most comfortable taking into PUG Gold and Platinum games. Just can't seem to ace the solo missions.

Bad luck, OP, keep trying and you'll get it done eventually. You could try firebase White next time, I've found it to be a really good map for solos.

Solos are all about control and patience, you can't rush them, and you have to know what enemies to kill, where to kill them, and where they will respawn

You can solo with anything as long as you take your time, As soon as you rush things you pay for it,

Thank you for that bit of advice. I found that the hacking objectives and disarming are much better than killing the key persons. I like being able to run around the map and dupe the enemies to following. My biggest downfall is getting sloppy around Wave 7 or 8 where I get complacent and take stupid risks. Patience is a virtue, right?

Rio's the best place for a sniper play and for objectives. I tried to use the TGI on Rio, but he's just too squishy at times. Assault rifles require you to be mid to short range. If you're gonna use TGI on Rio, bring a Sniper instead of an Assault Rifle. Giant's the best place for a first time solo, you have to get used to White if you want to solo on it. It's fairly small and its easy to get flanked.

If you just want to finish the banner and not care about time then keep kiting the enemies and don't get greedy. Giant is an easy map to solo. If you feel like you the enemies are gaining in number at your spot which usually is LZ then just go down the ladder, wait there then go to the the lower part of the room then run back to LZ. Over and over again. Try cerb or geth. Just the dragoons rushing you that you should really worry about.

If you want to make things easy on yourself, I'd recommend playing a vanguard and selecting Geth. A melee Kroguard or SMG Batguard should take most of the stress away. Until you've done a few solos, be sure to put on that cyclonic IV. Good luck.

Yeah, the ultimate cheese would be Geth/Gold/Giant with the Kroguard. Take a Reegar with Disruptor Rounds and a Cyclonic Modulator, and you're good to go. Do this twice, and you have the banner in no time.

Ouch, tough break. If it gets too annoying, another quite straightforward and fun way besides the ones already mentioned is doing it with Biotic Hammer Warlord vs. Geth, with f.ex. Omni-Blade Wraith. With rage mode on, he´s effectively immortal in that scenario.

That may also feel quite soothing after some close misses :-).

Ohh, that must have been painful. I came in here to congrat you on getting the banner but luckily I read your post first =(

If you want, you can cheese with these setups, against geth, on pretty much any map.

It's REALLY hard to die.

Alternatively, could cheese with the TGI who can't die so long as you have grenades to spare.

Could also use the Turian Havoc who also can't die if you have enough grenades and utilize the charge at the right times(such as using it when an Atlas is about to shoot you or when a geth trooper/pyro is shooting a rocket or flamethrower at you.

Thank you all for the advice! I got the banner tonight after a few tries. This time, I stuck with the Drell Infiltrator, Collector Sniper Rifle, Incendiary Ammo III, Cyclonic III and Targeting VI III. I'm most comfortable with this kit and was able to make it work twice in a row.

To be completely honest, my second attempt was interrupted when I got disconnected. But I am glad that I tried again and was able to earn the banner with my favorite character.

That sucks guy, sorry to hear it!

I was able to complete Gold solos with EDI vs. Geth (using Acolyte + inferno IV ammo and Harrier) and with the Asari Huntress using the Harrier only (but maxed out on Dark Channel).  Both on Giant.

Fight from ammo box to ammo box, falling back to next ammo box when enemies start getting close enough to hit you.  Just keep making a big circle, wearing out the enemies.

I suck at soloing.  If I can do it, you can do it.

I finally unlocked the EDI character and wouldn't mind giving platinum a go. Should I use the Harrier even if mine is at level II?

Umm, I suggest Shotguns since she dishes out a lot of damage with Shotguns, and because she's a shotgun specialist which means she has a different Tact. Tree just like TGI and AHI.

Finally get to try out the Claymore. I've had that at X from almost the beginning and never for to use it.

Why has no-one said the Geth Juggernaut on Glacier? Slap a Cyclonic 4 and a shield booster 5 and enjoy semi-immortality with your turret while you can easily walk around the small map.

Haven't taken Juggs out for a stroll yet, though I see him in almost every PUG Platinum match. Just unlocked a Geth Spitfire too, so that might be a fun thing to try out.
