When Mass Effect released in 2007 I was immediately drawn to the game.  When I put it in my 360 I honestly don't think I slept for 24 hours.  I poured countless hours into the game on every difficulty and class.  Then come along Mass Effect 2.  While the ultimate first impression wasn't as strong as the first game its still sucked a couple hundred hours of my life right out from under me with out me ever even realizing.  ME2 refined everything about the series and when it was all said and done Mass Effect 2 went down as my personal favorite game of all time.  Needless to say I followed every bit of coverage on ME3 and picked it up day 1.  I played the game for about 20 hours with a look of WTF, shock, and disgust.  I packed the game up and brought it to Gamestop and sold it for cash back and went and got me a case of Budweiser and went home and played some Halo and Gears of War.  So here it is 2014 and the lack of good AAA Sci-Fi RPGs is somewhat criminal.  Other than Deus EX your hard pressed to find a good Sci-Fi action rpg.  So I figured what the hell.  I didn't devote over 500 hours of my life to series to hold a grudge.  So I figured that was going to give ME3 one more chance.  So I picked the title up again and purchased the Extended Cut and Genesis 2 to go with it since I don't have any save files on my Xbox anymore.  I told myself to go in with an open mind even though I still had that feeling of betrayal in the back of my head.  Kind of like hooking up with an old girl friend that had cheated on you.  The good news is, just like smashing an un-loyal hot ex-girlfriend until the bad memories goes away, the more you play ME3 the better it gets.  So now that I'm finished with game as a soldier, and I have just started a new play through on vanguard I ask myself.  Was the game really that bad the first time I played it or was I just tripping because of my presumptuous thoughts of what I thought the game SHOULD have been.  I don't know.  I guess the point of this was to say it's not as bad as I thought it was once I let go of the past.  I still can't forgive the crazy ass 16 bit color bug or whatever you want to call it.  That **** is super distracting.  Well. my Citidal DLC just downloaded so I I'm going to check it out.  I guess Bio-ware managed to indoctrinate me again after all.  Bastards.

Well thank you =D  It only took about an hour and a 6ix pack to create.  I'm very proud of myself!

While I did not sell the game I did pretty much have a similar reaction. And yeah it gets better once you get over the shock. When you know not to expect great things it become a good enough game. and considering all the dlc, I have to say I enjoyed a hell of a lot from the dlc despite that some people might think of them.

I have to admit I'm a little curious what made you hate it so much only 20 hours in - that would take you to the end of the genophage arc, if your playthroughs are at all like mine - and that story arc was one of the best of the whole trilogy.

In any case, glad you're enjoying more this time around. Citadel DLC is basically non-stop fanservice.

I've noticed the same thing. Sure, I never really hated ME3, but I enjoyed it much more after I let go of my lofty expectations.

Sounds like I should probably give it another go then... is the DLC any cheaper now? Probably not, DLC never gets cheaper :/

You should take a look at the MEHEM. Is a mod that changes the ending. For me, changed the "girl cheated on you" to the "wow, she was flirting, but she did nothing after all".

See links on my signature. It's worthy and gives you the sensation of victory :)

never heard of paragraphs?

and MEHEM sucks, it's just a bad joke of a custom ending. bad voice-overs, long blank screens with said voice-overs and lame model swapping.

Line breaks and paragraphs are your friend OP, because that was just plain *painful* to read.

But to your wall, I have no idea what you mean about being presumptuous, I expected a game as good as ME and no less than ME2, in other words to live upto the standards they had set for themselves, not what I set for them.
There were too many shortcuts taken, but they did do some good bits with the genophage arc, rannoch (mostly), but I didn't find it overall more palatable on my 2nd and a half playthrough.

@ironhandjustice - the latest version of MEHEM looks good, too bad it had to be done in the first place, but at least it was though :D

He wasn't disappointed by the ending, but by the story itself. He did not even make it to the end before he decided to return his copy to the store. Read the OP before you react to it.

Plus this constant mehem this mehem that campaign in all threads, including those that have absolutely nothing to do with the ending (like this one) is a bit tiresome and annoying. It's like if some weird religous preacher was following you around and trying to convince you to turn in to his religion... even when you are at a kick-box match.

I'd rather be locked into a room with the Preaching Hanar & the Mad Prophet than touch mehem again.

So I picked the title up again and purchased the Extended Cut and
Genesis 2 to go with it since I don't have any save files on my Xbox
anymore.  I told myself to go in with an open mind even though I still
had that feeling of betrayal in the back of my head.

Soooooooooo... nothing to do with the end. Thats why he purchased the Extended cut and feel betrayed.

I think that's one of the biggest BSN problems. I don't like the endings. You like them. I respect your opinion but don't share it at all. So I give mine to a third, specially one that probably does not know it, and you call me mad preacher because you feel attacked.

Much hatred against other's ideas. Right?

Pass, I won't discuss with you :?

If OP wants to see it, he'll do. If not, he won't. Easy.

To end... REPENT! THE END OF DAYS IS UPON YOU :D

Did you read the OP? He wrote that he did not even get past the 20 hour mark when he decided to return the game to the shop. How could he hate the game for its ending when he did not even see it?

What you quoted is not stating anything concerning the quality of the ending, nor about his feeling about it. He just said that after two years he decided to give another shot to the game. So he purchased it again, downloaded the genesis-dlc and the free EC for it and went along with the ride and enjoyed it. I miss the part where he said that he hated the ending. When he was talkinb about betrayal, he was not refering to the ending, but the game itself and its story.

Bsn problem? Man, I say it again. This thread has nothing, zero to do with the ending. Yet you still spam it with a mehem-advertising post. You're not the only one who does this with threads. There were threads which weren't even remotely related to the ending. And guess what people obsessed with this mod came over, started ****ing about the ending and started the mehem advertising crap. Probably you're intent was different. You might have olnly misunderstood the point of this thread entirely. This guy shares his experience about how he hated ME3 and how he changed his mind about it after giving it another chance. No ending stuff... at all.

I love ME3. It has a great story with great gameplay. It gives you major moral choices like ME1 and ME2. And yet, dialogue-wise it is very different than its predecessors. There are no great 1-liners, persuasion has been nerfed and limited, and being renegade wasn't funny. I still enjoyed being a reasonable renegade when I allowed things to go wrong but there were no bad-ass moments that I can think of. Watch those "Shepard is a jerk" videos on Youtube and you'll see what I mean. It's something I really miss.

Yes, I understood that the OP did not like the game BECAUSE of the ending, not the game itself and not the ending.

I jumped in to the Mass Effect series with Mass Effect 3 I have to say the "Take Back Earth" trailer that aired on the television sold the game for me. But even though I only joined in on the third game and didn't get the "full" experience, I still got emotionally attached to the game and the characters when I beat it I did cry but was not angry like everyone else was but I did feel very sad for about a week.

See. Now imagine if you were only enticed by the trailer how much we were waiting for during those 5 years from ME1 to ME3.

Renegade Shepard in ME1 and ME2 were some of the most poor writing in the series, which did not fit Shepard as a character. Not only that, he makes things that could have been morally justifiable, not justifiable.

He defeated Renegade as a morally grey option.
