Wrex and Eve alive: ?
Wrex alive only: ?
Wreav and Eve alive: ?
Wreav alive only: ?

Realistically, the only leadership situation where I'd think curing the genophage could possibly work out would be if both Wrex and Eve are alive. I'd still be very, very doubtful. Statistically, the genophage is a no-brainer. It may be cruel but it ensures the galaxy's safety. An aggressive, 1000 year life-span species that can lay 1000 eggs a year being removed from a harsh environment and thrown into the galactic, technological landscape needs some way to keep its birthrate in check. The ME series offers no method besides the genophage. Idealism with no real solution is the defense for curing it.

Some would argue that the krogan deserve a cure. They may have been uplifted before they were ready but that was 1450 years ago. Much has changed. But has it? If anything the krogan seem worse than before. They blame the genophage for all their problems, have clearly not worked out their agression, and are very xenophobic. They've had 1450 years to cure the genophage themselves but would rather fight for credits as Wrex had once put it. That says a lot about the species.

A lot of people cure the genophage because "Wrex is my buddy" but what if this were real? Wrex may not be stupid enough to openly state he'll go to war and/or make threats to get colony rights like Wreav does, but he states his intent on krogan expansion by casually wanting 10 planets. And despite being a "mutant" among the krogan, he's hardly a monk. He loves violence just like every other krogan and was a murderer as a mercenary before meeting Shepard. Remember his story in ME1 about raiding a volus trading vessel? It's kind of scary if Wrex is the shining example of the krogan. Despite his pacifism, most krogan in ME2 did not share his beliefs.

We really don't know enough about Eve to judge her or the female krogan, but it's a package deal. The males are clearly violent and curing the females means curing the males too. Eve is also biased in her defense for a cure since she's a krogan. She also comes across as a bit dramatic; suggesting suicide by a thresher maw if she cannot have children. The fact that Eve references the deceased "mutant" Wrex if Wreav is in power to assure all krogan aren't like Wreav says something. She turns to an outlier to validate that not all male krogans are like Wreav, yet most are. If Wreav is in power in ME2 the males share his beliefs.

So under which of these 4 leadership circumstances would you cure the genophage without the knowledge that Wrex learns of the treachery?

Thanks, but besides that thread being roughly a year old, it doesn't discuss the 4 political situations but rather addresses curing the genophage in general.

The point is moot in the sense that without the Krogan you won't stand a chance against the Reapers and every race will be exterminated. There won't be any advanced race left in that "safe galaxy".

As far as I can tell in the story (and not some subjective morality or strategy):

Wrex and Eve alive: Do it!
Wrex alive only: ..Maybe do it?
Wreav and Eve alive: ..Probably don't do it.
Wreav alive only: Don't do it!

~~~
Now, I'm going to be more subjective here.
If we get, say, a sequel of some sort, we might get a rude awakening. And a very violent Krogan.
And it may be only with the full Cure situation that this problem could be peacefully dealt with.
Whatever happens, Bioware would present a general problem to us. They're not just going to remove such a plotpoint (Krogan expansionism) because we tried to be nice.
1)A cured Krogan with more peaceful leaders --> They'll be calmed down
2)A cured Krogan with less peaceful leaders --> They're emboldened and more dangerous
3)An uncured Krogan with more peaceful leaders* --> *Not as possible because Wrex dies anyway, but Wreav is gone too so it's a greater unknown
4)An uncured Krogan with less peaceful leaders --> They're angry as hell but at least you nerfed em
So the choices come down to:
1)Leap of faith
2)Attempt at peaceful control
3)Attempt at aggressive control
4)Attempt at delayed extermination
Interesting how that works. You can also transplant that idea into the Rannoch arc.
Personally, my mainShep went for the leap of faith. When it comes to the Krogan, I think enough of them deserve a chance. Curing the genophage is an issue to me. If there could be a way to slow down birth rates (instead of sterility), I think that'd be ideal to me.
I guess I want 'Control', but not the way that the game paints it. I don't want to Control their existence, but I do want to Control how they affect the galaxy at large.
My DefaultME3MaleShep sabotaged the cure and convinced Mordin to walk away. Why? Because it's only Wreav around. Default ME3 more logically presents the basic necessary actions. That is: Sabotage Cure, Quarians Live, High Destroy.
It's through a record of previous games that make other things more viable seeming, like outright curing the Genophage and hoping the Krogan have taken enough of a lesson from you and Mordin/Padok's actions that they will also learn to get along with the galaxy at large.
The first one and the second one. A bit iffy about the second one, but I'll let it happen. :-D
I never cure the Genophage with Wreav alive or Eve and Wreav alive. I know that not all Krogans deserve to not be cured, but that's why we make sacrifices.... :-(
To clarify on #4, that's also a leap of faith.
But this time, instead of a leap into light, think of it more as a leap into darkness. "Sure! I'd love if Krogan waged war against us! I totally trust that evolution will help us out here and not just wipe out the weak!"
Wrex and Eve alive: Cure
Wrex alive only: Depends on my relationship with Wrex in that playthrough
Wreav and Eve alive: Nope
Wreav alive only: Nope, plus then Mordin (or NotMordin) lives.
When I do cure, I like to prolong it so that Mordin yells, and Shep feels bad and then lets him die a hero.
