I have a new concern about the LIs... no, not the originals.

Will I regret telling Ashley and Liara off in the original and 'hooking up' with someone else later on?

this might be the first game where you have to juggle a lasting relationship ( japanese H game excluding )

Basically, what they said is if you had a romance in ME1 and you had a new one in ME2 that will come to a head in ME3.

Considering Liara is fairly open minded, and the product of a somewhat sexually mature culture, I don't see why there'd be any need to have "told her off," if you were interested. I don't think "cheating" really enters the equation.Adanu wrote...

As for the 'ME:2' love intrests, well, all of them can die, which, when you consider the amount of time and effort it takes to develop each character--script, design, voice recording, animation, so on and so forth--I suspect that it simply wouldn't be worth it to have them play a large role in 'ME:3'.
If we assume that any of the previous squadmates will repraise that role come the third installment, Liara is the only one who'd be pretty much garunteed, as she's the only one certain to have lived to that point. Kaidan and Ashley's chances aren't quite so good, because it would still require the development team to craft an entire story involving two charaters, one of which is garunteed to not make an appearance. As for the 'ME:2' cast? The likely hood of the development team including any one of them as a squadmate, when any one of them could be dead? Not so great. Which, in my mind is fine despite the fact that I'm already kinda attached to a few of them without having played the game, though I know others will disagree.
So, if I were a gambling man, I'd be willing to bet that while whomever you "romanced" in 'ME:1' or 'ME:2' is likely to make a cameo appearance in the final chapter, their involvement will be on the sidelines at best. That said, Casey Hudson did claim that you will be able to continue the romance subplot, whomever you choose, so that's something.

That'd be a neat trick considering she a Virmire shadow, so to speak.Arrtis wrote...

Almost everything I have looked at so far has shown the new ones as a 'distraction'. While this is fair enough for those who prefer the ME1 ones... what about those who didn't like either, and see at least one of the new romances as a possibility? We keep hearing about how the old ones are central to the story, and that the new ones are distractions... I am fairly sure I am wrong here, but it almost sounds as if the new ones are a test, rather than something you can genuinely proceed with.

Dont remember if it was the X-play ME2 special or the Sci vs Fi Special but one of them mentioned that your LI will have an impact across all 3 games. That came strait from Casey himself I believe
EDIT: He also mentioned that there is goin to me more than one love scene this time around lol...(for any of those that are curious)

I think he means if Ashley got preg0rz.
I dunno, right now I'm doing a playthrough where I'm to flirt with Ash but then when the "I'm upset and I'm going to sit on the floor" scene comes up, I'll just tell her to get lost. I wonder how that would work ^^. Or tell her "not now" before the love scene. That would be.. a right killer.

How much time are you assuming has passed between ME1 and Me2? It's already been stated that only 2 months have passed between the end of ME1 and the start of ME2. So, even if she was preggers...She wouldnt even be out of her first tri-mester yet.

Agreed.
I also wouldn't put much stock on what the devs now say or promise. As we all know, plans can change (to be diplomatic).
Bet on a 90% new squad for ME3.
They are already back pedalling from the whole "three games, one story, your choices" thing. Since the casual gamer is king in Bioware's eyes, it doesn't make sense to bring back people all the new entrants to the fandom won't care about, especially ones from a 4 - 5 year old game (the ME1 LIs and Wrex).
