I have heard that if you have made Alistair King at the end of the game, the game will not remember your Boons if you import your saves to Awakening, other DLCs, and eventually DA2. I just wondering if it is indeed true and if there is anyway to prevent that from occuring since the Landsmeet is coming up shortly and Alistair will be King (not decided yet if he will rule with Anora or not).

I do not want the game to have a bug after so far 100+ hrs into the game so far, especially after a frustrating experience last night...

Boons? As in asking Anora not to have the dork executed and to send him into exile instead?

Anyway, I heard the trick was to use only the auto save but not any others that you may have made post-coronation.

All your runes and such will be lost though, unless you remember to disembowel Starfang etc. pp. when you meet "Enchantment!" for the last time. Before the dance with Archi.

And in the split second before Archi bites the dust, you have to collect all the legendary items that you have given to your team (ditto for the last seconds of the fight at the gates, where Barkspawn commands your B squadron). You can get at the equipment of any party member if you have access to a merchant, though, so Sandal can help you there if you forgot.

And make sure that you have some 'portable' weapons in your inventory, otherwise you may have to fight with your fists in Witch Hunt etc. Which is especially painful for a dual-wielder since the game doesn"t seem able to count your fists and arrive at the magic number 2.

It is only the mage boon which will not set correctly if Alistair is the one granting it.

But yes, there are ways around this.

First, and easiest: if you are on PC, you can simply download a mod which sets the plot flags correctly here (and in a whole bunch of other places).

Here it is.

Besides that, the best strategy is to sit and wait. The boons are not reflected at all in Awakenings or in DA2. And Bioware are releasing a programme called Dragon Age Keep this year, before DA:I comes out. The idea behind this is that from now on, we will use the Keep to customise, edit, and set up new world states for our Dragon Age games from here on, which we will import into new games. So we will not actually be importing a save DIRECTLY into DA:I - we will go into Dragon Age Keep, tell it what choices we made during Origins and DA2 (or select new choices if we want to) and import that into DA:I. This means that any plot flags which were set incorrectly in the past will be retroactively fixed - ie, if the boons are to be significant in DA:I, then it doesn't matter if DA:O sets them correctly or not - they will be set correctly by the Keep.

The only thing the boon choice affects is the epilogue slides at the end of Origins, but to be quite frank those are bugged up the whazoo anyway. The Dalish one always fires, the City Elf one never does, and a whole host of other oddities. The mod I linked to above does fix the epilogue slides as well, though, so it's still worth downloading even if you're not a mage.

I take it you are not too fond of Alistair?

My original question was about the slides and choices of Dragon Age being imported into the DLCs & DA2. I know the drill for weapons, etc. I am not worried since my character has a #$%^load of sovereigns at this point.

I see. I have not played DA2 but from these import issues and the general negativity it attracts from this forum, I have low expectations. The Dragon Age Keep sounds very practical to solve these issues.

I will download that mod just to see what slides are suppose to show up for my CE Warden. I did not even know that some origin slides were not triggered due to bugs. Did BW ever comment on these bugs?

Indeed I'm not. His brilliant start in Ostagar - when you meet him for the first time - is his highest point. It's a steady slide from then on, ending with his antics at the Landsmeet when he proves to all and sundry how unfit he is to be even a figurehead king (with Anora ruling). The fact that he totally sucks as a tank doesn't help much, even though his 'replacement' sucks even more. But I guess that horse has been flogged enough during the last four years, we probably won't find anything new.

I'll make him king when I get around to meta-gaming the ending, just to see what happens. ATM I'm still doing normal playthroughs where my toons act for their own reasons.

I asked because there were only two occurrences of the word 'boon' in the game that I remembered (if you don't count the description of The Key to the City). The first is, of course, "Unless thou thinkst it far too soon, might I ask of thee a boon". The second is when the Warden asks Queen Anora not to execute the man she had agreed to marry, after he outs himself as a first-grade Alistair. So to speak.

Meanwhile I have found The Boon in the wiki (by googling it instead of using the wiki search function).

Fair enough. I do like him for his humor and such but I can see your point of view as all. Both Alistair and Anora have their character flaws and weaknesses in my opinion. I have no intentions of starting a pointless debate over characters since it changes nothing.

If any of your characters desire power, why not try place an unhardened alistair solo on the throne with the pc as the chancellor? I know the boons have little effect now but for RPing reasons it may be a choice for a power-hungry Warden.

I see. I do hope the Grand Oak Tree & the hermit make a return in DA:I or other future titles, even though the chances are very slim. In fact, replacing either Morrigan or Wynne with the Hermit would have been hilarious. I did not know asking Anora to spare Alistair was a boon so to speak. Though, I only spared Loghain once in an chaotic stupid playthrough so I do not remember if it was called a boon or not. The other times Loghain is executed for being a Slaver!

Hmm, I think I will choose the Bann of the Alienage Boon for my pc. It is tme to advance the rights of the elves, etc..

It's a flawed game, but not a terrible one. If you ignore the lack of polish, there's a fair bit to enjoy.

But yes, import issues was one of the gripes. And it makes sense - if you are continuously importing throughout a chain of games, then bugs will only accumulate.

The Dragon Age Keep sounds very practical to solve these issues.

Completely agree. I think it's a great idea.

There were a number of patches for the Origins game, 5 in total, I think, so Bioware fixed what they could, but the epilogue slides were not among them. In fact, there is a surprising amount that was left unfixed.

If you're happy to mod, I also suggest adding this one as well. They are perfectly compatible, and together I think they form a pretty comprehensive index of dialogue plot fixes (though it's probable you won't really see much benefit from this one unless you're planning another playthrough).

There are also these which iron out the worst bugs in Awakenings:

Number one,
Number two,
and number three.

I have them all so I know they work and are compatible together.

Please note that none of these fix a particular import bug between Awakenings and DA2. But you can get around it...

SPOILER WARNING... SPOILER WARNING... SPOILER WARNING... SPOILER WARNING... SPOILER WARNING... SPOILER WARNING... SPOILER WARNING... SPOILER WARNING... SPOILER WARNING... SPOILER WARNING...

When you go for the big end battle in Awakenings (it'll be obvious) be sure to take your male rogue companion with you if you want him to make his DA2 cameo appearance. Otherwise Awakenings will always register him as being dead.
