"Survival of the fittest" is animal instinct, not human because human survive in various way. Morrigan have animal instinct because she's a reptilian, she's only driven by her instinct, similar with Flemeth.

Tarzan didn't know anything about being human when he met Jane. All he knew was she looked similar to him as in what he thought was a mostly bald ape. He didn't know how to walk, talk, eat, sleep, or even go to the bathroom as a human did, only how apes did.
