Comics don't seem to be biowares foray, though truth be told, I can't name a single comic book series that's supposed to tie into existing medias, be it movies, books, games, whatever have you, that have ever managed to keep continuity with their respected series in question.
Best examples would be star wars comics from the 70's and 80's and how they blatantly didn't give a crap about canon or continuity, let alone character consistency.
One crucual difference there: the lead writer of the source material is also writing the comics.
I don't really see it as a difference. It's not like George lucas wasn't alive and able to be contacted when these comics were being made. And do we actually have, like, proof that walters is actually writing these. I imagine it more goes like this,
Walters: Okay writing team, I want this, this, and this plot point to happen this issue. Make it happen.
Writing team 1: Okay...so how are we supposed to have Miranda and Brooks talking about shepard?
Writing team 2: I guess it's suppose to make them seem different, I guess? How about talking while shepard's being cloned?
Writing team 1: That could work. Give the art team a good visual to draw.
Writing team 3: Didn't Miranda not know about shepard clone?
Writing team 2: *shrugs* No idea. What color is asari blood again?
Writing team 3: Don't know...I wanna say...magenta?
Writing team 1: Sure, why not?
The comics literally say
"Writer: Mac Walters"
