Again I am hoping for a "get in line or I will crush you" option ala Stannis the Mannis or Javik

That's the problem! It doesn't work!

You say ''get in line or I will crush you'', but if they don't get in line and if you DON'T crush them, they will be crushed ANYWAY, just not by you, and they were fine with that. Why would they care about being crushed by YOU, if they are fine with being crushed?

No, no, no.. I didn't accuse you of that. I never said that mages and templars could never work together for the survival of both factions, I said the conflict can never be solved. And it's not the inquisitions job to solve it, the inquisitions job is the ''big bad'', and that's it. Just as I said about my warden, his job was the blight not for example Uldred and his abominations, the job is to get the best army, that's why I recruited werewolves and golems and would recruit abominations too, because it's the strongest forces, and it doesn't matter what they do after the blight is over.

What I am saying is all we have to do is make them work together because because otherwise everyone will die, but to do that you do not have to solve their conflict, which is impossible to solve in the first place.

I'm not expecting to fix everything as Inquisitor.  I do hope that some of the choices we make as Inquisitor possibly regarding ways for the groups to work together affects later games.  I hope that I can start the dialogue as the Inquisitor and see PCs down the road able to continue with whatever consequences there are from it.

Baby steps.  The Inquisitor can make a start at getting the two groups to put fear aside for awhile is good enough for now.  Beats the current conundrum we're in at the moment.  I'm hoping I can do more to make positive changes (even small ones) in future games. :)

Yeah, you can work towards it, no problem. My original point was just that compromise could never be achieved between mages and mundanes, and that it is as impossible as world piece. But that's my opinion.

Technically compromise has been reached already. Perfect compromise is the problem. But compromise that both sides are okay with, or at least more than the previous, should be quite obtainable.

Uh, so many pages since i was away, but i guess we all can agree on one thing - nothing unites as much, as the common enemy. That's why we'll have DAI. Hah, i wouldn't be surprised to see not only Templars and Mages working together by the end of it, but Tevinters and Qunari as well. Oh, the irony.

What irony? It's only logical and wise to unite in such circumstances.

The irony, given the history of both nations, being self-righteous conquerors.

I'm still not sure if that's ironic.  Two opposing groups working together in a time of trouble isn't exactly irony.

iro·ny

 noun \ˈī-rə-nē also ˈī(-ə)r-nē\

: the use of words that mean the opposite of what you really think especially in order to be funny

: a situation that is strange or funny because things happen in a way that seems to be the opposite of what you expected

This isn't exactly the opposite of anyone expects.

@Kain Agreed.  To put it one way, who's gonna try to take over the world if there isn't a world left?

The Tevinter want to retake Thedas.  Orlais and the Chantry want to expand.  The Qunari want to "share" their "blessing" of the Qun with us.  So of course they'll work together for now.

Heh, that would be an interesting way to look at life on Thedas: Gee, I wonder what Sauron would do?  :P

Not even Sauron wants that crapsack, he'll downgrade to somewhere more hospitable, like Tuchunka

I'd rather live in Thedas, than, say, Spira (FFX) or the world of Diablo.

Another thought - why were Qunari building a massive fleet and what were they waiting for, while seeming to be satisfied with just Seheron in the recent past? A food for thoughts?

Probably another 'missionary venture'.

And have both angels and demons pissed off as well?  I may have the power to defeat them, but that's still a ton of them after me.  Just because the Prime Evil is dead doesn't mean all the demons are.

Angels hate the nephalem even more than the demons do.

Pass. :)

And then Zoltun Kulle thinks of cool ways to defeat angels/demons and instead of listening to him the protagonist kills him off..

We'll take it to PM after this, since this is getting way off topic.

Tell me about it. :bandit:  I was yelling at the screen when that took place.

Me: You stupid flipping pious monk!  STOP THAT.  He might have a point. Oh...sod it.

As evil as he was, Zoltun was right.

And now we have this Angel of Death stomping around...

Yeah, I'll live in Thedas over that any day of the week.

That works!

On a more serious note, I think whomever is the puppet master behind the Veil tears has been subtly making things worse.   I've been referring to him as Big Bad Bob.

Because we are enemies and have been for centuries, it's only boiled over into heat now. The templars are every bit as harmful in intent towards us as the demons, and I doubt that negotiating with them would be any more successful. It might be possible to temporarily suspend hostilities for the duration of this crisis... but not possible to end them altogether. There can be no true compromise when each side as goals so diametrically opposed.

Also, if you want, you can always PM the Cold War stuff to me.

Don't get drawn in. Don't get drawn in . Don't get....aw screw it.

Xil that is one of the most idiotic one sided posts you have made, and that is saying something. The Templars are as much an enemy as the demons? Really?

Pfft, don't underestimate how fickle the human's memory is. It's all the matter of time and perspective. Of course one year is not enough to erase or quell the mutual aversion enough, but to say never? What would you say in hundred years of bonding together by circumstances? In five hundred? In thousand?

Never say never is the one simple truth. Too bad fanatics only say the first word of that sentence.

To the mages, yes. The goals of the templars are, in fact, nearly identical to those of your standard demon when it comes to mages: slavery or death. The templars may be significantly less powerful, so they may be less of a threat to be focused on right away, but their intentions are not good and I seriously doubt they ever will be.

Sure, provided the templars don't try to chain the mages down again.

Provided the mages don't try to chain the others, using their innate advantage (hello Tevinter)? What was first - the chicken or the egg? Who watches the watchmen? Ah, the questions :)

Less interested in the usual hyperbole and inability to acknowledge the facts of the setting that don't fit her bias, and more interested in the use of the pronouns "we" and "us".

Mages and Templars being fictional makes membership in either faction impossible. I am absolutely certain that no one here can bend the forces of nature to their will through supernatural means, nor are they subject to predation from entities in a fictional magical dimension. Further, no one here has been segregated because of the aforementioned abilities/dangers, nor could anyone have possibly met a member of a fictional order of counter-magic warriors, much less be persecuted by them or made enemies of them.
