Uh no

._.

Friggin robes trying to mind control everything in sight.

....

....

Okay, I know what you meant, but now I just picture a pair of haunted robes (as in the clothing) trying to mind control it's wearer and push their fashion choices:

"Nooo white, it's after Labor Day...you can't wear white after Labor Day.   Black shoes with a brown tie are hideous..."

Anyone who wears skirts seems to be a murderer.  I propose we ban skirts from Thedas.

Now that's something I can agree with.

Seconded.

That's personal failing i think

It's a gift. I failed my chantry "lessons on why to support templars" course. Of course, I wasn't raised in stable or sent to the Chantry at the behest of Arlessa Isolde to receive my education by the chantry, so I had to rely on thinking for myself.

Compassion vs. sense? I'd pick compassion any day.

Individual liberty vs. collective security? I'd pick the minority every time.

Excactly, they would still have to abide by the law like every citizen.

1.

The chantry itself is a lie, or at least what chantry indoctrination is based on. It is nothing like the real church. Why else would the maker be disgusted of humans. At least our beloved(sarcasm) divines should be able to earn his forgivness. Why create the blight to destroy humanity as a whole if you are just upset by the magisters attempt to enter the golden city. Where is the divinity in using mages and templars as a second army in case of an excalted march. And don´t refer to the Qunari, because every other exalted march was against mages or elves.

2.

These are not laws. Orlais and the chantry forced their dogmatic view of magic on everybody else. I played both games several times, and I never met anyone being afraid of mages besides Orlaisians, Templars and Chantry Accolytes. The rest doesn´t bother with mages or magic at all.

1. Head cannon. There has been plenty in game supporting both sides of the debate with nothing substantial on either side. It is what you believe, but nothing in game says so.  The same type of god who would destroy an entire city to ash because he was mad at his people, the same god who would flood an entire world of his people, seriously religion isn't nice.  Most of the exalted marches had nothing to do with elves or mages.......

2.  They are laws, the nations submit to chantry authority over the circles.  Gaider has said this. This is why the boons to free the mages doesn't work. The king of ferelden can ask and the chantry says no.  Also, the chant and the chantry predate orlais. It actually started in Tevinter before Orlais was founded.  Also, read asunder some time.  The villagers are terrified when they find out there are mages.  We have also met some terrified fereldens when they meet a mage and some residents of kirkwall seem terrified as well.  As we haven't been anywhere else, I can't argue that.

I agree. I base my opinions on the fact that people should be punished for what they as indviduals do, not for what they are.

...

BTW, Dura it surprises me that you became promage just because people have a differing view of merril than you.  Sorry that just surprises me coming from you, I expected something else that wasn't a reaction to others not liking a character.

Well, to clarify, it had a lot to do with the fact that I had never really spent much time thinking about the topic of the mage revolution before, other than it seemed like an interesting backdrop for the next iteration of the story. With regard to Merrill, I don't know what to tell you... the issue wasn't  that the opinions posted were hostile to Merrill, I could give a crap about that. What bothered me, honestly, was that some of them were so completely stupid. I have a low threshold for that.

Despite my issues with her, I will grant that the beginning scene for her fight was pretty cool.

Fair enough. Bioware forums tend to encourage low stupidity thresholds :)

Agreed. The way she trotted her tranquil assitant about. They way she bullied Kirkwall. Her compassionate glance. Nary a playthrough goes by that a tear doesn't come to my eye everytime I have to put such a kind, sweet and innocent woman down.
