Interesting, so you would change elven society if the dales shoud be reestablished in DA:I? Because the dreamers used to be the most prominent parts of elven leadership in time of Arlathan. And the Keepers still rule the Dalish. Only the city elves are somewhat ruled by normal elves(elders), because every elven mage from the alienages has to join the circle. How would you do it, or what would you change?

While i'm pro-Elven it doesn't mean i agree on everything in their culture or past. I don't think they should follow it blindly, as you cannot step into the same water twice.

If Tranqul had no preferences than nobody could get them to do anything. Even orders under pain of death would mean nothing to them.

Then don't go in this thread?? I don't know what to tell you, it's happened multiple times now. That's like deliberately continuing to put your hand on a burner.

And the people who keeps bringing up has no clue on what their talking about

I'm surprised more mages aren't lining up to be made tranquil, oh the joy it would bring to them!

Did the WoT guy actually own that place himself?

His title was tranquil proprietor.

So i'd assume so given what the term means.

Okay, I see the discussion that's going to take over for the next 5-10 pages or so. At least it isn't another Merrill debate.

I'll stay in the back. I'll get less mud and blood on my clothes from all the slinging that's about to happen. Popcorn, anyone?

I'll take some.

We actually don't know how common that practice is.

It could be quite common in some circles for mages to forgo their harrowing to be tranquil.

Then how could Owain prefer familiarity to uncertainty or being alive to being killed?

Owain preferred cleaning in the midst of an abomination outbreak to letting Wynne know he was on the other side of the barrier.

Granted, so what would you do, after a possible reestablishment of the Dales?

I prefer coffee over popcorn please, so if you still have some I'd like a nice cup. With hazelnut creamer though... and splenda 0:-)

Which is objectively more oppressive, tranquility or bondage in the Qun?

It's very hard to talk about tranquil and make relate to it because, logically what you wrote would be true, and I consider existence of tranquil a plot-hole in and of itself.

But it is a factional universe DA, and perhaps in it emotions work differently and a are a different thing, not what we have in reality, THEN it makes sense.

Owain preferred cleaning in the midst of an abomination outbreak to letting Wynne know he was on the other side of the barrier.

He said quite pointedly he would prefer not die.

And again he preferred familiarity over the unknown.

Just because his behavior seems counter intuitive to you doesn't make it less valid.

Sorry, I can't resist this.

Needed fitting music.

No Splenda, but I do have mocha hazelnut creamer.   ;)

Establish a legal system first.

It could be. But I find it grossly unlikely. You might differ of course.

Ok.

It aids me with work, writing and gaming.

Oh and debate as well.

EDIT: OF COURSE I HAVE A GOOD MEMORY! I AM GOD!

Yep, a fact a lot of the more stubborn pro-Mage crowd seems to forget.

If the one on the left hit the other over the head with his banjo, he would win, right?

Personally i think it quite sad they do.

Some Mages don't want that burden, they just want to have a relatively normal life, and probably go to sleep with out spirits trying to siphon their will away so they can become demonic abominations.

Considering that we can't bludgeon each other to death with just our words, nope.  Not like we don't try to bludgeon each other with words in here all the bloody time...

Also I should add that the First Enchanter has to agree to it before a Mage needs to made tranquil, unless it's blood mage or a mage asks for it

Depends if it'd be urban or rural establishment.

Can't the Chantry override it though?  I thought they could go over a First Enchanter's head if they felt the situation is pressing enough?  Or is that just my misinformed head cannon?  A big reason why I'm on the Story forums is to learn more, so please don't take my questions as sarcasm.
