I just couldn't disagree more with Uncle Ben. The only thing power grants is freedom. Freedom from responsibility, from limitations and continuances. And if you still have responsibility, then you don't know what power is.

What mage has unlimited power?

Most mages are limited by their mortality alone.

If they want to maximize the utility of their power, they should strive to live as long as possible.

So, each rationally self-interested mage has a responsibility to themselves not to do anything that might end their lives or prevent them from being able to continue exerting their power.

I would recommend not arguing with Kain.

But while he's here, did you notice that Morinth went back to being a killer?

Yeah, but us Chaotic Good types know how to party.  Both the out-of-control-I'm-only-doing-this-once kind (that most of us have had once in our teens to 20s) and the hanging-with-friends-watching-bad-movies-sipping-beer kind (the most common kind of party I went to.)

I've been CG since 1988, so I'm pretty solid in that too.  I have my NG moments, but that's about as much alignment slipping as I tend to do.

Ya'll LE are too stiff.  Lighten up, life's too short!  Here, have a drink and relax.  You know you like it here. :P

Eh, Chaotic is lame.  If the entire society was chaotic, then would you not express your chaos through law?!

Neutral Good is the way to go. `_^

You take serious religious devotion, history and a decent education and couple it together and you can some some very enlightening conclusions about mages and magic.

Add in a horror show and there you have it, unhinged mage stating they should all be killed for their sins, Its not an overt sign of chantry Dogma mind you considering the canticles mentioning magic it self, claim it to be a blessing from their god. But it also speaks of punishing those who misuse said gift.

  I don't fault her overly for those either, But i do agree with the assessment of Leliana, Mages deserve to live as much as anybody else, they just need to be locked away for the betterment of everybody else.

She acts as if the best thing a mage can do is accept being cut down by a Templar.

She is Orana.

Equality is a lie…A myth to appease the masses. Simply look around and you will see the lie for what it is! There are those with power, those with the strength and will to lead. And there are those meant to follow—those incapable of anything but servitude and a meager, worthless existence”

Bah, boring.  Neutral Good rarely gets anything done.    You're confusing personal alignment with society preference anyhow.  I think there should be law, I just refuse to put laws above my morale code.  If a law is doing no good and harming innocents, I'll happily break the law in a heartbeat if that means getting folks to safety.  That's why I sided with most of Anders' actions (the mage underground for instance,) until..well, yeah, you can guess.

damn you Anders. :(

It is taking every Jedi whom has ever lived and died to hold his spirit in Chaos though.

That's a honor only a singular Sith has achieved, Him.

I told you to start it. :P

In all seriousness, I may write one of the mods tonight and see if we can get permission to get one stickied in the Off-topic section.  Since BioWare makes a lot of RPGs, you'd figure they'd give the tabletop nerds somewhere to go.

I love D&D. Also Chaotic Evil ftw.

It's a tricky alignment; too many people go way overboard and fall right into Chaotic Stupid.

I agree with Darth Bane.

As do i, I agree wholeheartedly the strength and merit of the individual should lead, But i don't think it applies to mages in DA to be honest, given Mages possess the same weakness of self doubt and individuality that normal men posses.

They are no more superior by merit then an elf is for being elven.

So, each rationally self-interested mage has a responsibility to themselves not to do anything that might end their lives or prevent them from being able to continue exerting their power.

It's up to a mage to strive for unlimited power, and to defeat their mortality, quite a few were shown to be able to defeat their natural lifespan.

Different things can be considered rational by different people, and some leaps of faith could be the best opportunity.
