Well the name is not that important since you have to be as cruel as Tevinter (if not more cruel) to achieve that.

 

I'd rather see politics of Ferelden to grow. Its the closest Thedas has to Democracy and Liberalism. Ferelden is perhaps further advanced because its existence is in opposition to Orlais; their nationalism is defined in opposition to Orlesian norms.

It invites in weakness, division and self interest into a society though, Attributes that can and have destroyed many nations.

 

Thankfully Fereldan has it relatively contained given that only Nobility can vote...Hrm reminds me of the Modern world what with people electing folks to vote their interests, except the Bannorn are born into their position.

 

Ah well thankfully it seems to be a fairly well contained phenomenon.

I value Liberalism more than Democracy but yeah it works too.

 

If the real world is any judge that is the only way things work out. More importantly there will be less wars as people start to value their daily lives more than their sense of Nationality. EU was created for this very reason. All those countries in that small space, it literally invited war if there was no unity.

A commonwealth of nobles doesn't have that much to do with democracy. On the one hand, the bannorn might act as a sort of parliament in the English style, given further evolution. Or it could work like a Muscovite council of boyars, a decidedly non-democratic institution that did not lead to increased representation outside the aristocracy.
