Crops and a nomadic lifestyle are pretty much 100% incompatible

I value Liberalism more than Democracy but yeah it works too.

If the real world is any judge that is the only way things work out. More importantly there will be less wars as people start to value their daily lives more than their sense of Nationality. EU was created for this very reason. All those countries in that small space, it literally invited war if there was no unity.

The unity of the EU is a myth.

There are no open wars, but beneath the surface that are economical, cultural wars.

Unfortunately, it seems to be human nature at work. The big ones always try to milk the little ones of everything.

Wait just a few years, EU will be a nice unified Islamic state, perfectly united under Shari'a. ;)

Well EU was changed in many ways since its creation. The first purpose of it was to weaken the sense of nationality between countries and unite them so that they don't constantly start wars like they did before. There was WWI and WWII, both started in Europe and many many wars before that. Europe has a dark history. There are so many countries, cultures and languages in a very small space, it can be quite dangerous. Economy and similar aspects entered its programs later, some years after it was established.

If anyone wants to bring up the EU, I'll point out two very important factors that contributed to the success completely outside the EU's influence: the role of the Soviet Union as a common outside threat, and the presence of the American security umbrella through NATO. The EU came to be in a context of relative peace and alignment, it was not the cause of it.

You're right Dean but I was mainly talking abut the effects EU had on people not the countries. Because of it a Dutch citizens respects Germans and vice versa, it was established to fix the disasters of WWII but they decided to stick to it afterwards.

You're quite full of yourself, aren't you?

They're not your streets, and some of the people with whom you share them might be keen on chemical happy times. It's not your city, and some of the folks with whom you share it might want to transact in negotiable affection. Why should what you want other people to do or not do be more valid than what those people want for themselves? Is it simple mob rule?

The "greater good" is a less weighted term than simply "good" is. Your idea of "good" might differ a lot from Lulu's, but moving toward the "greater good" pretty unequivocally means, among other things, that both you and Lulu get to live your own lives is closer accord with your own individual standards of "good."

That applies for everyone. People generally force what they think is best under all kinds of justifications. Freedom begin one of them.

Every single justification and reasoning rests on certain premises that are assumed to be true and unassailable.

However, they rarely are.

I have a question.(I apologize for possible grammar errors.Im writing from my PS3 at the moment, which is a seriously tedious process^^)

Now then, people like Z are of the opinion that mage freedom would undeniably lead to a Mageocracy.

My question is,why is that so bad?Now hear me out for a second.^^

Who exactly holds the power in Thedas at the moment?Nobles, right?

Now,how do you become a noble? You're born one of course.

Which essentially means that you are allowed to rule by birthright.

And who would hold the power in a mageocracy?Well,mages.Duh.

And how do you become a mage? You're born one of course.

Which essentially means that you would be allowed to rule by birthright.

You see,it wouldnt really change all that much. But of course there are quite a lot of differences too.

For one, magic would be pretty much universally accepted, which would allow for it to be used to help mundanes in day to day life.

Furthermore, when it comes to the ruling question,it would actually be fairer than the system Thedas currently has, since potential rulers wouldnt be reduced to just a few select familys, but everyone who is a mage.

They also would be much readier to face the qunari that way, what with whole mage Armys.

As long as they dont let themselves go like Tevinter,i could seriously see it working.

But thats just my opinion.Any thoughts?

It's true that a magocracy by itself is not inherently more evil than a normal feudal society. The problem is the dangers associated with magic in Thedas.

A normal noble can't turn into an abomination. A normal noble can't use blood magic to control your mind or rip a tear in the fabric of reality. Of course, normal nobles can force others to do what they want with their soldiers and economic power, but the same would happen in a magocracy, so that's still a point against mage overlords.

Tevinter seems to be making it work. A society that operates with the efficiency of Tevinter without the rest of its infamous traits is something that should be sought after. How many nations and cities do the mundanes have? Too many, so very greedy, especially the Andrastrians.

But of course this is assuming that you do not place the flintbangers upon a pedestal and will only ever see them running things cus majority.

Do you truly believe in the noble intentions of humanity to not abuse freely given power? Magisters aren't born evil, they are born people, like anyone else. The need for power, the need to make their lives better is what makes them Magisters.

Do you truly believe, that many humans, born with magical talent, in society that allows mages to hold political power, wouldn't try to use their talent to get better position in said society? If not for themselves, then for family, loved ones, many reasons would do.

If you do not rule, then you serve, and the number of power seats is always less, than numbers of people craving for it.

"Cus majority" is the principle that saw governance rise to begin with.

It still guides the majority of the world, in one format or another.

Only makes sense, "Cus Majority" would be applicable in Thedas, except not in the format of politics but in people.

Blight Bringers are a minority, and therefore their voice is a minority.

And we still don't know exactly what caused the Blights.  It may have been magic, it may have been something else.  We have the Chantry's version, but as has been proven time and time again, that doesn't make it the truth.

Corry is living prove that tev mages did that as i said hardly matters what they found there whether it was angry maker or corruption trapped in black/golden city ultimately mages brought that to thedas...

If the mage ruled society operates as well as Tevinter, i.e. mass abominations not running around everywhere, the city not going off like a nuke, etc. I see absolutely nothing wrong with them ruling, corruption and all.

Mundanes can have their Loghains all but help the darkspawn during a blight. They can have an institution like the White Chantry completely and utterly dehumanize mages to the point where there's a system to wipe them out and lobotomize them, take their kids away etc. But they get a pass because they don't need powers to do it?

Should the mages simply eat **** forever?
