Well if you are comparing Tevinter to Rome you should know that eastern Roman empire (Byzantine) is better comparison as devs stated.
Many European, particularly eastern European counties hated Byzantine but as soon as it fell disaster fell upon Europe as Byzantine was a wall against Ottoman Empire and as soon as it fell so did most of eastern Europe. There are many similarities between Constantinople (today known as Istanbul) and Minrathous too.
Tevinter is a wall against Qunari too. Because of Tevinter the Qunari have no foothold on mainland Thedas and don't have the element of surprise. they are literally held in check. During all these years no nation of Thedas has offended Tevinter least of all attack it because they know this. Its kinda the enemy of my enemy is my friend situation but instead of friend Tevinter is "necessary" atm.
Tevinter is not really a ''country'' though, it's more of an idea, a philosophy, a segregation between mages and mundanes in rights and power. Real world empires weren't run by leaders that were legit different from their subordinates, they were run by people just like them. And I think that makes a difference.
I'm not so sure.
Whatever floats your boat. Go study history of mankind, starting from Egypt. Or Assyria? Whatever.
Indeed. If they do crumble, I don't think it would be happening any time soon.
Also didn't the devs said "They are keeping Tevinter for future"? Its confirmed that we will not visit Tevinter in Inquisition therefore Tevinter is not crumbling anytime soon.

I've given conservative estimates at them lingering a century or so with out major intervention.
The main issue with the Imperium is we don't have many clues, the few we do though point towards regular slave rebellions, a constant warfare with the Qunari and mass corruption eroding away military strength on infighting.
It's not going to last forever, then again it might linger a while longer in the world.

They are still the Imperium, and so they are still a country. They are just much smaller than they used to be.
The Qunari however, are a philosophy.

Agreed. I think they will at least last through one more major hurrah from the Qunari, which will probably be the basis of a future game.

Both are, Qunari have their own empire.

And given the regular slave revolts i figure people there don't care for the idea much, not surprising, the whole notion of rule by superiority tends to fall flat once you are declared to be second case citizen compared to those with certain features.
There is enough basis in our own reality to support the notion that intrinsically if you elevate on genetics over merit, people fight against it.

Not always.

Some empires existed for centuries, time is a stretching matter. The time span of DA series is pretty tightly packed.

I think the Imperium will see the final fall of the Qunari.
But i don't think it will be in a position to do overmuch else, so much of its support is just used to keep its fledgling self sustained economy alive.
The issue with the Imperium is, No one "officially" trades with them, Aka they have to grow their own food, smith their own weapons and be entirely reliant upon their own industry, and the only true source of wealth there is most likely the slave trade, its been enough to keep the gold pouring in and out of the Imperium over the centuries but it won't last.
The USSR crumbled more or less due to the same reasoning.
Self sustained economies don't work.
Not always.
If you can find one situation in our reality where it wasn't met with political reaction if not outright physical violence i will be surprised.

Erm, no. USSR crumbled because people weren't communists. You can't have non-communists live in a communist society, doesn't work.

Religion counts? Islamic countries that practice Shari'a as constitution have gender rights segregation ( biological segregation ).

The Dwarves "Officially" trade with them and they discounted mages were responsible for blights since the refuse to believe the maker exists anyway. The wiki also states almost all pirates operates secretly under the Impreium. The raiders of waking sea, a crew Isabela was part of served under Imperium to stole the tome.
I've only seen the first part of the first chapter available. So Gaspard wants to utilize the warring factions to the benefit of the empire, while Celene wants to put them both down?
No, Gaspard wants to start a war to retake Ferelden and use that to unite the Templars and mages back together by using them against ferelden.
MoTE seems to portray circles and templars as far more nationalistic that has previously appeared to be the case.
And Felassan appears capable of putting any mage we have met not named Flemeth into a little box.
My theory is that when the Imperium finally does fall it will be because the Qunari spies instigate a massive slave rebellion in concert with a large scale invasion to prevent Tevinter from putting it down. The Imperium will be crippled without it's cheap labor. And perhaps this time the Qunari will besiege Minrathous without also dividing their forces across a third of Thedas at the same time.
We know that slaves are working quarries in Tevinter, but we don't really know what is the economical basis of the Imperium. Slaves are their expense, not income. Devs are being stubborn in enlightening us about internal deeds of Tevinter.

The dwarves don't know where the blight came from. They just know 15 years or so after the 1st blight started darkspawn started invading the deep roads.

._.
Ignored the numerous failed work projects, the self sustained economy blunder, the massive and expensive arms build up it couldn't afford and every other mistake i could list made of the USSR and you blame it on failure of ideology?
Ultimately the USSR wasn't ever even communist in nature, My point being though, it fell apart because it ran off a self driving economy, once you stop expanding that basis, it can only shrink.

We know the Imperium would most probably collapse without slavery. Both Fenris and the codex entries say this.

And also Dwarves of one city state are hardly a boon to a dying Empire, Sure good steel and metal works, enchantments, Lyrium and what have you but i left them out of the equation for a reason. It isn't about the resources the upper class get from the Dwarves that ultimately matter, They don't have the connections to support their Nation with the cheap goods and foodstuffs to support it, hence the whole self reliant thing again.

I will blame it on the ideology, if everybody was communist they wouldn't fall apart, they would work together as a true communist society to get themselves from any craphole they got themselves into, and probably wouldn't get into that in the first place. It fell apart because ideology didn't match the people, and that's why they wanted independence.

And what is occurring because of this?
Its been labeled as Archaic and combated politically, if not militarily by rebels who keep ripping those countries apart. my point is even in our reality when you put notions like this out there, they come under assault rapidly.
