Red Templars. I think they are going to make it harder to humanize the Templars just like magisters and blood mages make it hard for some to humanize mages.
That's the thing though, bad examples of both sides already exist, and they don't make it hard for my to sympathize with the premise of mages or templars as a whole. I think the most sinister characters in DA 2 were mostly mages, but in the end I sided against Meredith in the Last Straw because I thought she was wrong in that particular situation.
If Templar characters can be aware of things like the dangers of corruption withing their own ranks, or the collateral damaged this war has on innocents or have concerns other than just "APOSTATES MUST BE STOPPED! NO MATTER THE COST," then they can make a case for their side just fine, despite whatever the red templars do.
