The negative portrayals are usually at the forefront, unfortunately. Hopefully, there's more variety among the Dalish characters in Inquisition.

Yeah and if they didn't act like that, I wouldn't consider killing them. Although I pretty much killed the dalish clan in DA2 by accident.

I think a lot if not most people killed the Dalish clan in DA2 by accident. The whole "i'll take full responsibility" choice is just...wut.

I don't think Lobsel agrees with you on that.

Yeees. I want stuff like that. Just for feels :3

Creepy things I've (not but maybe if done right) wanted to see in the Dragon Age games:

-A Templar who entered the Order to protect a mage sibling, only to find a voluntary Tranquil

-A mage-templar relationship in which the mage targetted the templar for personal advantage, rather than the other way around

-A human-dalish relationship in which the Human left for the Dalish clan, and in which both faced fantastic reverse racism from the clan

-A dwarf-phile with implications of being a cover for taboo inclinations

-A family rescue of smuggling a sick family member into a safe city that brings the Blight into a city

-A pride-abomination that seeks to be a historic nation-establishing figure

-A shape changer love-interest who specializes in changing into different human forms

-A demon-possessed yandere love interest

She had flaws, surely I see them too.

But she had good keeper qualities.

Telling you to leave their clan is quite justified though. Nothing wrong with that. Marethari's clan does nothing wrong and you kill them out of hate yourself.

True. As for the behavior of the clans, Gaider wrote at Dragon Central (in response to PsychoBlonde's comment about Sephardic Jews):

They were still living as part of the societies they migrated to, however. The Dalish do not. At best they'll camp too near some human settlement and eventually the local ruler will drive them out, or they will leave voluntarily before things get too tense, but for the most part the Dalish live entirely seperated from human society.

I was with you til you said Yandere. No.

No Yanderes.

No no noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

I can get behind everything on that list but the Yandere.

Also I kind of wish Zombie mom in DA2 hadn't looked so ridiculous. That had the potential for major creep factor but it was ruined by how laughably it was handled.

To be fair, BioWare hasn't really done yandere yet in any of its games. Would be a little refreshing to have to deal with something new.

I'll admit, it's one of the very few times I went back and redid the decision. And I redid it more than once because that was the choice I figured would make them the most mad. It probably would have been the last one I'd have guessed would diffuse the situation.

Isn't that Rhys and Evangeline in a nuttshel?

There is a city-elf version of that. Soris marries a wealthy human merchant, the alienages riots.

-A family rescue of smuggling a sick family member into a safe city that brings the Blight into a city

There is that refugee in DAA; it is heavily implied he has the Blight but nothing really comes from it.

Which is why he always goes to the lava; even if you'd think the Commander would be able to think of a less painful way of putting him down.

Damn MisterJB I totally forgot about Soris (god his ass was whiny. My CE wanted to drop kick him in the face).

Wait...you put him in lava? D:

Oh, come on- imagine an entire harem of demon-yandere love interests.

Rage: "Why won't you love me!? I'll kill everyone else!"

Sloth: "You and I will sleep together... forever."

Desire: "I'll make you want me."

Pride: "You'll learn I'm the best thing you could ever hope for."

I have a possible solution for the mage issue:

Why not COMBINE the Circle and the Templars into one organization?

Think about it.

The Circle of Templars seeks out new mages and trains them to control their powers, fight off demons, and become productive members of society. When the training is complete they face a demon as a final test. Success means they are now a Circle Templar.

This group not only seeks out, trains, and inducts mages, they also resolve supernatural problems like Rift tears, murderous abominations, demons, evil mages etc. This group is like the X-Men and the military all rolled into one.

Their ranks are made up of mages and any mundanes willing to join. Not every role is a combat role so those deemed unsuited for the field can instead provide support in another capacity.

Mages are forced to join. Mundanes must volunteer. They can see their loved ones again once training is complete and can visit as much as they like as long as they are on leave. Just like the military. Well the U.S. military anyway. They can have families and land outside of the group as long as these things do not interfere with service. People can request posts near loved ones as well.

They would be stationed around Thedas in Chantry buildings and Circle Templar towers. They would also regularly travel the land and patrol the cities. Talking to the people. Healing the sick, treating the wounded. Helping the needy, teaching the children etc. Showing the world a friendly and helpful face. A positive police presence.

Blood magic is allowed but only for certain uses. Research, combat etc. Like with any powerful and dangerous tool it's use must be regulated and controlled. All schools of magic are allowed and magical research is a huge department within this organization.

The Chantry is doing the funding for the most part and the group can also make and sell their own wares.

Belief in the Maker is not needed and individuals are encouraged to practice any faith they wish. Attire is free to choose but must bear the Circle Templar symbol. Aside from that there is no uniform.

Yeah I guess that does it. So anyone want to tell me all the ways in which this is a terrible idea or do I get a high five?

You can kill the initial elves on the mountain, and leave Sundermount without killing all the clan by going to the nearest exit. I never thought it made sense to use that line, or for Arianni to try to kill my Champion after everything he did for her son, so it seemed like a good option.

I wonder if players would get that it's supposed to be a bad thing. A lot of yandere portrayals depend on animation techniques and exagerated expressions that don't necessarily play well in the DA engines. Without the visual cues... well, who knows? The line between deeply passionate love and an abusive relationship is hard for some people.

None of those quite have the creepy factor I envision.

Then again, I find mental predation and mind games the fun part of terror.

So what you're saying is that your Inquisitor has a secret weakness that the mages can exploit.
