Poor kid. 11 years old. So brave.
Agreed Eluvianix, but rant incoming.
In my opinion Hana? Yes, she should have dealt with it for a few more years. That whole codex made me ill.
I felt for her too, but I ended up hating the Chantry even more after that. Even by the sodding standards of Thedas, 11 years old doesn't appear to be anywhere near an age of consent for something like that. I'd guess she was about Connor's age and it was proven that isn't old enough to be considered an adult.
So...a mage is considered too dangerous to live without Chantry rule, they are limited on personal freedoms, subject to any excuse to be called a blood mage at any time, and (depending on the Circle) could also be beaten at any time. Right, got that.
However, an 11 year old girl is old enough to make the decision to become Tranquil? No no, let's not try to educate her or find another path. Let's not have one of the teachers that might have some more experience with this try to help her further. Nope, that little girl asked to be made Tranquil and by golly, she's going to get her wish. ![]()
I'm not knocking on a mage that decides to do this. If it's an adult, if they should choose if they want to be Tranquil, then I respect that decision. Like Owain. I've said repeatedly in my posts that I think Tranquil aren't "robots" nor are all forced to be Tranquil.
Still, after I read that codex, I ended up doing the most crazy pro-Mage I've ever played, and for the first time, honestly wished I had helped Anders plant the bomb. I was very furious and it just bugs the hell out of me. Finally, I'm not saying I'm right in my beliefs, and I'm sure other posters feel differently.
Pardon the rant. It's snowing out and I haven't finished my first cup of Life Blood of the Earth coffee.
Edit: Hana, I hope I didn't offend you last night. ![]()

Don't get me wrong, I fervently understand where you are coming from, and I agree. But even still, I can understand how as an 11 year old girl, she made that choice. She just wanted the voices to stop. From what I understand of the entry, she was falling apart.

It's definitely a sticky situation because of her age. I personally feel like the Chantry should've sent her off to the Imperial Chantry to seek help there. It would have been beneficial to her.
The adults in the Chantry knew that, too.. but they would rather have another Tranquil then bend their moral high horse

She honestly sounds like she might have been a Dreamer to me. But nonetheless, sending to her Tevinter might have been a better option.

She was, but again...this is a group that has freedoms generally so restricted, travel is granted by permission only. That they aren't allowed to stay with their families, can't cook their own meals, ect ect. So they aren't really being treated like adults for the most part, rather more like dangerous children and/or dangerous weapons.
A child says "Make the bad dreams stop!" and one doesn't look for another option? It still makes me so angry. Again, I truly felt bad for her. I just wish they had used an adult for the codex, not an 11 year old girl.
Bah, I'm having a "Snickers" moment. I'm not myself without more coffee. Be back later all!

Iirc, can't mages request a Circle transfer?

I think so. But an 11 year old probably didn't know that.

Perhaps, but would it have been any different in a White Circle?

And no adult bothered to tell her. There is so many problems with that I have no clue where to start.
@eluvianix Well, we know that some Circles have a weaker Veil than others. They couldn't have, say, transferred her to a Circle where they the Veil wasn't as thin?

To be honest, I don't think it would have been nearly as a strong and moving story if it had not been a little girl. I personally would not have cared nearly as much as I do if she had been older.

I hear ya, it's infuriating to me. How could you do that to a child and still argue it's for the greater good while there's options to help/save her.

Perhaps, but how do you measure the strength of a thinned Veil? All Circles would have somewhat weaker Veils because of the heavy magic use within each one. It might have only been a short fix to her problem.

I'm pretty sure that they know which is the Circles that have a weaker Veil, but I'll admit that's conjecture on my part. The fact remains that a little girl should not have been allowed to make such a permanent decision until she was at least closer to a medieval version of adulthood (so around 13-15 years old.) That's old enough to be able to understand the weight of such a choice. Instead, they let a kid make that decision for herself. Grrr... ![]()
I'm sure there's a perfectly good reason for it.
I'm one hundred percent backing the Chantry on this one.

Stupid Confessions thread used up mine last night.
No no no.
When I have a child come up to me and tell me about voices and bad dreams. The first thing that I do is look up a mental health care facility with the expressed recommendation of lobotomy. Back alley if need be.
Because that's what a caring guardian does.

Happy lobotomizing!
I'm the opposite. That girl's story is the only reason I support the existence of Tranquility.
