I think if the codex had shown any sign that the Circle tried other methods before agreeing to Tranquility, I would not be seeing this in such a negative light.

"Perhaps another Circle will do you some good."

"There are teachers that have gone through this and worse, child.  I will assign one of them to help you."

"Some of mages that just passed their Harrowing might have some tips for you.  No, you cannot ask them what the Harrowing is, but they've had experience dealing with the nightmares of the Fade."

There were choices.

To the first, we've already discussed this and it led to arguing due to misunderstanding and bias.

To the second one, I really doubt the teachers have gone through worse than what she has. I can't imagine a worse than that involving demons without actually being possessed.

To the third one, it seems counterproductive. Ask people who can't talk about what they did on what to do.

Wasn't the girl a dreamer though? They might've been a bit out of their league if so

Same here, and it makes me feel like there's a strong reason why they left that out.

But then why was Feynriel, the dreamer, sent when he was at the Circle?

It is implied she may have been a Dreamer since Feynriel went through something awfully similar, though at an older age.

If she was a Dreamer, than that's different.  However, we don't know if she was.  Some mages are just very Fade sensitive.

I'm going with the idea that she wasn't a Dreamer and basing my post around that.

Okay, the second one I don't agree with.  I'm betting that there are teachers that have gone through what she did.  Some get it worse than others; even Wynne talked about the nightmares she'd had.

On the third, that doesn't stop the older mages from going, "Well, this is what I did when I was your age."

That leads back to us not knowing all the details as to why

You think she wasn't a Dreamer, I think she was. We are at an impass in this discussion and can't continue simply because we have no common ground in this.

True, but you said it may have been out of their league and judging on him getting to leave, that wouldn't make much sense to me

Hey, fair enough.  :)

I've concluded that this is the most meta-thread on the forums.  We keep having all these debates and bouts of heavily speculation...because there is uneven presentation within the game.  Beautiful.

I got what bugs me about this.  There is a precedent for a little girl being allowed to decide for herself that she wants to be Tranquil.   She may have been a Dreamer, and her being Tranquil might have turned out for the best.  I can agree with that.

Yet, this implies that a non-Dreamer mage is allowed to make such a decision before adulthood.  That is what disturbs me the most.

I think instead of continuing this strenuous debate, everyone should come over my house to smoke and eat mozzarella sticks.... and if the herbal way is not your way, then whatever else makes you loose.

Ultimately, we know that an eleven year old girl can be made Tranquil at her own behest with our without proper perspective or justification.

Edit: lol beat to it.

...Let me know if you ever end up on my side of the country.  You should hear the amount of music, including some great metal that I've got in my MP3 collection.

What I do is leave the tab open before I go to bed, and then refresh when I get up.   I have trouble keeping up with the Twitter thread myself.  I blink and 10 pages have been added.

Same.  And then if you take the time to read it, the pages keep increasing.  How irksome. :(

It's still the best place to go on the forums for stuff that is official at this point.

That codex entry says the First Enchanter complied which is only natural considering how s/he has to approves Rites. Therefore, if fault lies with anyone, is with him/her, not the Templars or the Chantry.

Still, I doubt the FE would have allowed someone to be made Tranquil at so young an age without trying something else first and if the girl's life was not in danger.

First of all, by the time of Act 1 nobody knows if Feynriel is a Dreamer. Secondly, by the time of "Night Terrors" only ancient Dalish ritual and Hawke's help (partially as an anchor to reality) help Feynriel to stabilize his nightmares. I doubt Orana's caretakers had anything similar at hand. You really are overlooking horse at your nose, when you trying to tie their situations.

What does the timeline have to do with anything? Her and Feynriel had the same symptoms. And no, I'm not, the Circle wound up sending him to Tevinter either way so what am I missing exactly? They were both in the Circle. They both had the same caretakers, which is ultimately the First Enchanter.
